Megan watched Lucas walk toward the balcony and couldn’t help but mutter, “Who’s he calling that it’s all so mysterious? 

“Don’t tell me… he’s hiding something from you too, Aurora?” 

Aurora smiled and gently tapped Megan on the nose. 

“Come on, we’re adults. Everyone knows what they’re doing. It’s not like I need to control everything, right?” 

Megan nodded. 

She quietly observed Aurora’s expression and, seeing that she truly didn’t mind, finally relaxed. 

Truthfully, those earlier comments had been deliberate, just a way to test Aurora’s reaction. 

She’d wanted to see if Aurora would get upset over something like that. 

If she had, Megan would’ve had to pull Lucas aside later and tell him to comfort her properly. 

Those two sentences were just a gentle probe. 

Now that she saw Aurora really hadn’t taken it to heart, she felt fully reassured. 

As long as she didn’t care, there was no need to worry about arguments or tension between the two of them. 

Meanwhile, Leonard watched Lucas‘ back as he stepped out, a thoughtful look on his face.

Lucas slid his finger across the screen and answered the call. 

The chief’s excited voice came through almost immediately. 

“Mr. Carter, we have new information on our side.” 

Lucas gave a calm “Mm.” 

“Go on.” 

The chief heard the flat tone in Lucas‘ voice, and some of his initial excitement faded. 

What he thought was exciting news might’ve meant nothing to Lucas after all. 

The chief took a deep breath and went ahead, telling him everything that had happened. 

“Right now, Julian is in our custody, and Tessa has been sent to the hospital we’re partnered with.” 

Lucas narrowed his sharp eyes, his voice tinged with danger. “Are you sure his mental state is truly unstable?” 

At that question, the chief’s heart skipped a beat. 

Right–he had completely overlooked that part. 

Lucas tapped his long fingers on the armrest, waiting. 

When no reply came, his tone turned cold. “So, you’re telling me all this without even confirming the facts?”
