Chapter 66
Gemma
Once I’m out of the warehouse, I walk down the street quickly.
When I’m far enough away, I pull out my phone. I navigate to the photo I took of the information about the drug.
My mother was supposed to get it for her severe medical condition that messed with her mental health.
Instead, somehow, Reyna’s mother ended up on the list because she needed it for insomnia.
There were a thousand medications for insomnia! She didn’t actually need it. Not like my mom did.
I’m so tired of Angela and Reyna Holland ruining my life.
I find the phone number for the supplier. It’s a personal number, and there’s an authorization code specific to Cassian.
I call the number. “Hi, I’m Alpha Blackwell’s secretary. I’d like to change the delivery on this medication.”
I give the authorization number, and they tell me they’ll get the medication to the new patient right away.
I smile as I hang up. Then I take my laptop out of my bag and

find a seat at a nearby café.
Time to finish the job I’m getting paid for.

I pull out the thumb drive with Cassian’s data on it and plug it in to my computer.
I smile as my fingers fly over the keys.
Today went even better than I thought it would.

I look over the plans the engineers were able to make off of Gemma’s suggestion.
Maybe it wasn’t originally in my plans to announce her publicly as my wife, but now that it’s done, I’m satisfied.
I go back to my office and sit down at my computer. Gemma’s scent lingers, and I like it here.
I like knowing she was here.
So do I, says Zephyr. It’s about time you started recognizing our mate for what she’s worth.
Don’t get ahead of yourself, I tell him.

Recognizing her as my wife is one thing. That doesn’t mean she’s my mate. And it definitely doesn’t mean I’m going to make her my Luna.
She doesn’t even have a wolf.
I start to work, but it’s not even twenty minutes after Gemma leaves when Liam barges into my office. His face is deadly serious.
“Alpha, we have a problem.”
“What is it?” I growl.
“Our system has had some kind of data leak. The hacker you hired was stopping Moonlight from getting in, but suddenly, then she just broke through. It was like she was on one of our own computers.”
“What?!” I rise.
“Yeah,” he said. “It happened twenty minutes to half an hour ago.”
Slowly, I look down at the computer on my desk. An image flashes into my mind of Gemma sitting here.
It was like she was on one of our own computers.

Gemma, on my computer at exactly the time Moonlight was breaking into our system.
There’s no way. No way Gemma is Moonlight.

Something else comes to mind. Something Moonlight said the one time I tried to contact her over chat. I pull out my phone and scroll until I find it, then read it again.
MOONL1617: Sorry. I’m not interested in a project for Cassian Blackwell.
User3560486: Why is that?
MOONL16H7: Not a fan.
User3560486: You don’t know him. How can you be sure?
MOONL16H7: You have no idea whether or not I know him. He doesn’t even know.
User3560486: A man like Cassian Blackwell would know if he met someone as talented as you.
Would I? Would I know if my own wife is an infamous hacker?
I scoff and close my phone,
Of course, I would know.

“Liam, what other computers are in the warehouse?”
He lists them, and I tell him to get security footage of every single one.
Then I go looking for my wife.

I use the data I took from Cassian’s computer to make myself a nice little hidden backdoor into his system. I leave one message behind.
Morons.
Then I log out, contact the client, and let them know it’s done. They’re pleased. By the time I get back to Zina’s place, the payment has gone through./
“Gemma, you’re amazing!” Zina sing–songs. She sighs happily as she looks at her bank account balance on her phone screen. Then she says, “Men are the worst. Money is the only thing you
can count on.”
“It’s true,” I tell her,
“Celebrate?” she asks.

“Celebrate,” I say decisively.

We get ready to go out. I put on a lilac–colored lace dress that’s the perfect mix between sexy as hell and innocently flirty.
I wait a little for Zina. Once she’s ready, we both step into the hall. We’re laughing, both of us in a seriously good mood after how well the day went.
But as soon as I’m in the hallway, I freeze.
Cassian is standing there. His arms are folded across his chest.
“Gemma,” he growls, “It’s time for you to tell me what you were really doing on my computer, and why the hacker Moonlight was in my system at the same time.”
