Megan wasn’t crying anymore,
Hearing Boy’s question, she sighed and said, “Yes. But this time, the other party didn’t ask me to take any specific medication, nor was there a prescription signed by a doctor. They just told me to keep an eye on Room 316 and observe if any problems might come up.”
But Room 316 was just a car accident case.
After waking up, there was basically no chance the patient would have issues related to medication, so Megan never found an opportunity.
Every time she passed by Room 316, she could see a group of people inside.
Mandy was a young girl, and she looked well–educated.
After waking up, she had her family bring her a computer to the hospital and kept working from her bed every day.
In fact, Megan didn’t know who the perpetrator was, nor why he had targeted this group of people.
Based on the previous incidents where she had provided medication, it always involved elderly patients.
She didn’t know what the young girl had done to offend him.
“You’re saying that until Mandy was discharged, the other party never called you again or asked you to do anything else?” asked Chris.
Megan nodded.
“This was the only time. I received two phone calls. He just told me to watch Room 316 and, ideally, find a chance to act before the patient was discharged. Then I was to send him a message, and he’d handle the doctor’s signature.”
But in the past, she had always followed orders.
This time, they asked Megan to take the initiative, to use her position to hurt someone.
She was scared and kept stalling until Mandy was discharged. She never found the opportunity.
The man called once to follow up.
When Megan told him there had been no chance–because there were always too many people in the room–he went silent.
“He paid too much attention to Mandy. It was different from every other case in the past six months. That’s why I kept a special eye on her. I just didn’t expect you guys to notice.”

After a long silence, Megan said, “I also went to see Dr. Wood once, I didn’t mention that I was the one getting the medication or imply any connection to him. I just wanted to probe a little. But I kept feeling like Dr. Wood, like me, was being threatened. He probably had no idea who the prescriptions were for, or who was helping to obtain the medicine.”
With that, Roy and Chris started to understand why the perpetrator had been able to stay hidden inside the Summit Infirmary for so long.
Because none of the participants knew what role they were playing.
Trembling slightly, Megan took a sip of water,
After finishing the water, she put the glass down, looked at Chris, and said, “Mr. Green, can… can I go back and see my son? I know what I did was wrong, but… I have to make arrangements for him. He’s still so young. He can’t survive on his own.”
Chris looked at Roy.
The latter was mentally organizing all the information and didn’t respond right away.
It wasn’t until Chris cleared his throat and called his name that Roy came back to his senses.
Roy looked at Megan.
“It’s good that you understand you broke the law. Right now, Mandy has been kidnapped. You’re our only lead. If we arrest you now, we might lose the chance to catch the person behind all this. You can go home today, but don’t leave Impelia until the case is closed. Can you do that?”
“Yes, yes.” Megan nodded quickly.
“Then I’ll leave this phone with you. I’ll be off now.”
“No.” Chris immediately stopped her.
He handed the phone back to Megan and said softly, “If the person on the other end notices that someone else has taken over this phone, they’ll know they’ve been exposed. That won’t be good for Mandy’s safety. You hold onto the phone. If they contact you again, try to notify me or Captain Felton. It’s your best chance to redeem yourself.”
