He thought back to that day at the Day Light Restaurant–how Aurora had dared treat him that way–and the frustration burned in his chest with nowhere to go.
That woman… there was no way he was letting her off the hook.
Did she really think being the Walton family’s second heiress gave her the right to do whatever she pleased?
Joseph called the owner of Day Light Restaurant, demanding the security footage from that night.
But the man shut him down immediately. “Sorry, Mr. Hunt, the cameras happened to be down that day.”
“What did you just say?”
Joseph sat up straight, his voice rising sharply.
“Were they really down, or are you lying to me?”
The owner stayed perfectly calm, unfazed by Joseph’s tone.
“They were down. I have no reason to lie to you about that.”
Leaning back in his chair, he blew out a lazy ring of smoke. “We’re just running a business. What good would it do me to make something like that up?”
Joseph paused, grudgingly admitting the man had a point.
He switched tactics. “Then do you have any other footage from that day?”
Inwardly, he thought, “There’s no way every single camera went out at once. If they really did, then I have every reason to suspect this guy’s hiding something.”
Was the owner working against him?
But the man’s next words made his stomach sink. “Sorry, but the whole system was being replaced that day. Every camera in the building was down.”
“You did this on purpose, didn’t you?”
Even Joseph couldn’t ignore the stench of something off.
Day Light Restaurant was one of the most well–known establishments in Ravenshore–there was no way
their cameras would all just conveniently fail at the same time.
The more he thought about it, the less it added up.
The owner gave a cold snort. “Whether I did it on purpose or not is none of your business. I really can’t

give you that footage, so take care of yourself.”
With that, he hung up the phone.
Staring at the black screen, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
How amusing–did Joseph really think he’d just randomly crossed Aurora?
Did he have any idea who was standing behind her?
Too naïve.
Without hesitation, the owner passed word to Desmond about Joseph calling to request the footage.
When Desmond saw the message, he replied that he understood.
“If there’s any new development on his end, make sure you let me know immediately.”
The owner gave a fawning smile. “Don’t worry, Mr. Watson, I know exactly how to handle these things.”
That put Desmond at ease.
After all, Day Light Restaurant was part of Vanguard Group.
The so–called manager was just a figurehead–the real boss behind the scenes was Lucas.
And this current “owner” was nothing more than a front.
For Joseph to show up asking for the lady’s security footage–well, that was like walking straight into the
line of fire.
Just the thought of someone demanding surveillance of the boss‘ wife was enough to make anyone laugh out loud.
After hanging up with Desmond, the owner recalled Joseph’s words and decided the man was nothing short of a clown.
At this point, did he still not realize the kind of person he’d provoked?
And he still had the nerve to call again.
Of course, this wasn’t something the owner was about to warn him about.
For someone like Joseph, no one bothered to take him seriously–he was just entertainment, a fool for everyone to laugh at.
