When we finally finish, we sit together and begin talking about my parents and the good times that we shared. It feels cathartic, almost as if we’re honoring them all over again now that we know that my father didn’t die because he was weak or he couldn’t recover from his injuries. He was murdered and it feels very much like the pack wants to bring back the positive feelings that we used to have in the pack.
The council members eat with their investigators, Alpha Sebastian, Alpha Christina and Sebastiana while Braden, Shane, Christian, and I eat with our pack members.
As hard as all of this has been, when the council finally leaves, the pack feels more settled than they have since our pack was attacked.

I snag Christian’s whiskey from my father’s … no, it’s my office. I need to start thinking of it as my office. Once I’ve got the whiskey from MY office, I get a couple of glasses, a blanket to sit on, and I put them into a backpack. Then I go to the kitchen omegas and beg them for something delicious that I can take with me. Thankfully, they give me some still–warm shortbread cookies that have raspberry jam in the center.
“Alpha Sebastiana mentioned that she’s never tasted anything so good, in case that matters,” Jolie says. I peck her on the cheek making her blush.
“You’re the BEST!”
At the last minute, I race upstairs and grab a couple of condoms from the unopened box in my drawer before racing back downstairs to meet Tiana.
“Ready?” I ask her, taking her hand in mine.
“Ready!” she says.
We wave at pack members as we walk towards the forest surrounding our packhouse.
“So, you’re leaving tomorrow?” I say, already feeling sad about saying goodbye.

“How much do you like me?” I ask. I’m only partially teasing. There’s something about Sebastiana that I’m drawn to. I’m not sure if it’s because I know very few other Alphas, or because she has such a big personality, or maybe it’s just because she’s the first person I’ve ever shared any intimacy with, but I know I’ll be counting the days until I see her again.
“I like you enough that I’m willing to give you my virginity, Shane. That’s a lot. I know it’s not the same for men as it is for women, but for us, it’s important. Your body penetrates mine. I take her to a spot that has a great view of the sunset. I reach out in the mind link to make sure no one else is here. In some ways, it’s good that the pack is recovering from everything we told them today. No one is up here, so we have the small area to ourselves.
I pull the blanket out of the backpack and lay it out.
“Ohhh, fancy,” she says, grinning as she sits on the blanket.
