I screamed as I got dragged, still in the large wedding dress. “Wait, what are you trying to do with me??!” I cried out but was ignored.
“This is for the best anyway. I didn’t know she was a cheater or recently disgraced, I’d have said something.” One of the women who dressed me spat out as I got dragged out of the large room.
I was being dragged along when two of the men that previously flanked the man that ordered for me to be disposed suddenly reemerged.
“New orders, she’s not to be disposed of anymore.” They revealed and the men tasked with ‘disposing me‘ were clearly confused, while I let out a relieved sigh.
“He spoke with Alpha Jason just now, and It seems like they’ve come to an agreement. Turns out she’s from a pure bloodline too, which is why he ordered us to tell you guys to not dispose of her anymore. Instead, she should be prepared for consummation and be taken to the king’s room tonight.” The second man spoke and I gasped in utter disbelief. This was a complete 360 from what I expected to hear.
“What? A consummation? Of what? The marriage didn’t even hold today!” I cried out but the guards basically ignored me and began dragging me back to where I was just dragged from.
The three women were clearly shocked when I was pushed back into the large room, and after the order was relayed to them, they got more shocked. But they didn’t question anyone, they just proceeded to drag me along to the location I was dolled up at, this morning.
I felt trapped. No one was listening to me despite me trying to explain to the women getting me ready that this was a mixup.
“Look, the crow already gave us orders, we can’t refuse. The only person above his orders is his son, the crowned king… popularly known as the Blackbird. Technically, you already belong to his son from the content of the contract in question- with or without today’s marriage holding, so there’s nothing you can do.” One of the women finally spoke.
“And as for the alpha of Alphas… just pray to the moon goddess before he comes to his bedroom tonight.”
I was dressed in something sultry, then a robe, then taken to a large bedroom that apparently belonged to the alpha of alphas.
“Goodluck.” Was all I was told before the door got shut behind me.
I felt powerless, in a situation i definitely didn’t want to be in. I paced the room while dreading the arrival of the blackbird. I didn’t want to imagine what he’d do to me tonight on getting here, I just want to escape this situation.
I was certain the whole Internet already sees me as an untrustworthy woman, all thanks to my cruel ex mate. I let out a sigh and glanced at the door before walking towards it, then I gently pushed it open.

No one was in the hallway. I waited a few heartbeats. Still empty.

This was stupid, and would likely get me into more trouble, but I didn’t care. I don’t want to just sit here and accept this wretched fate. At least I’d know I tried a little.
With that in mind, I fled.
Somehow, I found myself in what I assumed was the maids arena here in Evylon palace, and I wiggled my way between the girls as they left the palace for the woods. I was tense throughout and kept thinking I’d be found.
The guards asked the girls where they were going to. I wasn’t dressed so differently from the other girls, just that my robe was more exquisite compared to some of theirs.
“To the mate hunt!” The responded excitedly and were let through without a hassle.
The mate hunt.
I’ve heard of it before, it was a festival that take places annunaly. At the mate hunt, the girls are to take off first in the woods, then after about an hour and a half, the men are allowed to chase after them. Then, the men are to let their wolves lead them to their fated or chosen mate. Not everyone finds their mate there, and not everyone who participates in the run are there to find their fated mate, some just enjoys the thrill of being chased through the woods.
I’ve never participated in the annual mate hunt. I was brought up with the belief that it was uncouth and babaric. And since Elijah already chose me as his mate since I was eighteen despite my wolf being dormant, I never had a reason to go participate in the mate hunt.
We’ve arrived at the mouth of the woods the hunt would take place in. There was no man in sight, and all women present were bursting with excitement.
I didn’t know why I came here. After successfully escaping from the palace, I should just find a place to hide or something, instead of being here right now. But I don’t even have any money, or anyone to call for help. I’d undoubtedly get caught by my new owner, or my ex mate and he’d undoubtedly make life hell for me.
The more I stood between the excited girls, the more I was tempted to participate in the hunt tonight.
Who knows? I might finally find my fated mate if I have one, or someone who likes my scent might chose me to become his mate. If that happens, the person would technically be saving me from this situation.
With that in mind, I stepped forward even more, clutching my robes tightly while the wind whipped around me. As I listened to the rules being listed, I felt my blood start to pump while my heartbeat quickened.
When the firework signal went off in the air, the girls all screamed excitedly as they all took off. As I ran alongside them, I desperately hoped for the first time that fate would smile down at me.
