I just knew fate must fuck with me no matter what. I should have known there was no way the universe would watch me getting a fated mate without them fucking it up. The universe has never been on my side my entire life, so I really shouldn’t be surprised that this was happening to me. But it really is, I’m beyond shocked- I’m bewildered.
“This was the bride sent for me this morning?” Blaze thundered and I flinched. Gone was the man who was dragging his lips and tongue over my throat like he wanted to eat me literally. In his place was a man that was so enraged, everyone gathered were all taking tentative steps away from him.
I was still on the ground, in the spot he just dropped me in, but I was also consumed with the urge to flee right now. His eyes were glowing red with rage and I shuddered, crawling backward when he took a menacing step towards me.
Gosh! I’m so fucked tonight!
One moment, I was happy and unable to believe my life was finally going in the right path. Moments later, I was reminded of reality: that I’d always face disaster after disaster no matter what.
“Start speaking right now! This is your handiwork, isn’t it?” As he spoke to me, so did he keep walking closer and my heart lurched with fear but I finally managed to rise to my feet.
“My handiwork? What?” I blurted out while massaging my rearbone which was starting to hurt from how hard I was dropped minutes ago.
“Yes, and don’t try playing stupid right now because I won’t buy it!” He snapped at me and I blinked in confusion.
“I- I don’t understand what you’re saying, your majesty.” I breathed out while still backing away from him.
“I didn’t show up at the stupid wedding, which was why you concocted this cute, little plan to find me in the mate hunt, right? So you could still get tied to me…” he was still speaking when realization dawned on me and this time, all I could feel was irritation, insult and anger.
“Why would you think I’d do that?” I demanded, unable to stop myself while still feeling extremely insulted. “In case you’re forgetting, you were the one who chased me, I didn’t manipulate you into doing that.”
“You don’t have a hand in how we met? You didn’t sneak out of this palace with that motive in mind?” He shot back and I resisted the urge to scoff in irritation.
“No, I didn’t. Frankly, if I knew who you were, I wouldn’t have allowed you to kiss me, or to touch me, or to bring me back here. I was literally running away from you and this palace, so why the hell would I purposely do that?”

The words were already out before realization dawned on me that I had gone too far. Gasps filled the atmosphere, and in the next moment, a hand was wrapping around my throat tightly and I gasped for breath desperately while staring up into the dark, enraged eyes of the blackbird.
“You’ll watch how you speak to me, understand?”
After his hold loosened, I struggled to breathe and coughed a few times. One of the three women came to my side, quietly asking if I was alright and I weakly nodded. The king’s hold hasn’t been particularly tight, I had. just been scared shitless because I knew all what he was capable of.
“Which pack is she from? She’ll be sent back tonight.” The king wasn’t referring to me, he was referring to the three men present. I had a feeling they were his betas, they had been present this afternoon when I was in the presence of the king’s father.
“Your majesty, her mate rejected and demoted her just last night for cheating on him with multiple men, while selling out classified information as well.” One of the men explained and a stab of betrayal sharply shoved through my mind because if Elijah hadn’t done that, no one would genuinely believe I was capable of that.
“My ex–mate lied, I never did any of that. He only lied to get me out of the picture because he wants to take in a new mate. He discarded me because I refused to sleep with his friend and…” I was still speaking when the king let out a loud laugh.
“You seriously expect me to believe that? Men are territorial of their mates, no matter the specie. Werewolves are even more territorial, so no man can ever ask that of their mate. You’re clearly lying.” He bit out and I flinched.
I hadn’t expected him to believe me but it still hurt to be dismissed this way.
“Here’s a picture proof, your highness.” The second man provided an iPad for the king and I was certain it was that picture of alpha kade and myself. The king chuckled and shook his head.
“So she’s like a whore that has no shame at all. A shameless slut. That’s who I’m supposed to take as my mate, huh?”
After he spoke, our eyes met and he snorted. “I think not.”
He returned back to scrolling through the iPad and my stomach churned and clenched tightly.
“You’re literally trending everyone online for being a shameless whore. So many alphas already came out to admit they slept with you and that you were such an easy lay.” The king rattled off as he continued scrolling down the iPad.
None of that was true. I’ve only slept with a single person in my entire life and it was my mate, Elijah. My ex mate, rather. So, who were these supposed alphas coming out to say they slept with me? Clearly Elijah had paid them to do that, so the public would sympathize with him and readily accept his new mate.
He was such a cruel bastard and if chanced, I’d strangle him to death.
“I don’t understand how a woman can be unfaithful to this extent. If you were tired of the marriage, why didn’t you file for divorce? What did you gain from cheating and selling out your pack’s classified information?” He asked, sounding genuinely confused and perplexed. I remained silent because I knew he

wouldn’t believe whatever I chose to say.
He handed the iPad back and began to close the distance between us, making my heart start to pound really hard once again.
“I can’t believe this is the same bride I was expected to wed this morning. Even if I had been present this morning, I’d never have accepted you after seeing how much of a cheat you are. And presently, I also can’t accept you as my mate any longer. You’re undoubtedly gonna bring this pack and myself so much share, and since you’re such a shameless whore, it might not take you long to fuck my entire pack members… which is why I’m gonna be rejecting you tonight.”
The wind got knocked out of my throat at the end of his sentence and I let out a sharp breath.
Thay was what I had been hoping to hear, because I was already also dreading being mated to the blackbird. But listening to him say it to me right now was so jarring and something wrenched in my heart. It was pain, at the realization at I was about to be rejected, after experiencing a rejection last night from Elijah.
As he stepped closer, I kept inching backward till my back was pressed against a wall, and he didn’t stop till he was right in front of me, knocking the breath out of me again from his sheer presence.
“I, Alpha Blaze…” he began just as the sound of a man gently clearing her voice filled the air.
“Ah- your majesty, I don’t think you can reject this woman,”
My eyes widened at those words just as the king growled. The sound rippled through the air and made my knees knock together in fright. Back when he was chasing me during the mate hunt, that sound had made me stupidly aroused. But right now, it was the complete opposite.
“What? Are you telling me what to do, beta?” The king demanded in a chilling voice as he turned to face the man who had just spoken. Everyone cowered once again while the man shook his head and held his hands

“Of course not, my king. I wouldn’t dream of it. I just meant that… you cannot reject her because of your… situation…”
The king bristled.
“What situation?” He barked and I flinched.
“Because of the curse, my king,”
After that response, silence stretched so thick, a knife would be able to cut through it.
“My curse?” The king echoed and this time, the three betas nodded at the same time.
“You’ve bitten her, right? I see the mark on her throat already.” The first beta spoke this time and I stiffened while my mind reeled at the realization that Blaze really bit me. I had kinda forgotten about it till this very
moment.
“It’s not a mate bond or anything, it was just a little past the surface.” The king explained through gritted teeth, sounding like it was the last thing he wanted to be speaking about.
