I had completely forgotten that I scheduled an appointment with him this morning asking him to bring me a list of all the people his mate cheated on him with. That was because I thought that she ran off with someone, but now that I knew that wasn’t the case, I wasn’t sure I was interested in this meeting anymore.
I instructed my beta to send him over to my office, and I was in there when he arrived and knocked, then I granted him permission to enter.
“Good morning, your majesty.” He bowed and I assessed him, silently wondering if this was the kind of person Elena was attracted to and if she ever once loved him.
I waved him to a seat and didn’t fail to notice his barely restrained excitement. As he sat down, he pulled out a file as he spoke.
“Here’s the file, your majesty. It contains every alpha my ex mate cheated on me with. Not all the names are included in here through, I wasn’t able to find some of the names cause they’re a lot.” He explained and I grinacwd as I accepted the file from him and dropped it on the table without glancing through it
Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d end go going through that file. Sure, she cheated in the past but I wasn’t sure I wanted to know the names of those that she did the deed with, and that was because that might make me angry more than it was supposed to and I wasn’t ready for that.
I folded my hands over the file and spoke, my eyes focused on Elijah’s face.
“So, tell me about your ex–mate. How was being mated to her like?”
Elijah leaned forward, grinning before starting to speak.
“It was very horrible. A horrible, terrible experience. I was mated to her for years and turns out she’s been cheating on me the entire time. It’s sad when you think about it because I trusted her a lot. I gave her so much, only to get paid back this way.”
There was so much venom in his voice and something just didn’t seem right to me the more I listened hard.
“I didn’t ask about all your bad experiences with her. I asked how being mated to her was like.” I pointed out and he stiffened before clearing his throat.
“You seem to like talking a lot of trash about your ex mate. I understand that she hurt you, but don’t you still care about her a little bit at least? For the sake of the bond you once shared… then you shouldn’t be readily saying only the bad things about her.” I continued before I could stop myself.
After I went over that sentence, I realized that I was defending her a little… which was beyond shocking to me. It wasn’t like her mate was lying about all that he just said, but why did I suddenly get the urge to defend her..,?
This is crazy.
“Of course, your majesty. I’m just hurt, that is all. She is a kind woman when she wants something from you,

then she’s back to being cold. There’s not much to say about her because most of my memories with her aren’t pleasant.” He explained and this time, I felt a little sorry for him.
But at the reminder that this man was once mated to my fated mate, that sorry feeling went up the flames at
once.
Maybe if this man hadn’t mate with her years ago, we’d have cross paths differently back then, then we’d have undoubtedly gotten together right after. But she might have backstabbed me and cheated on me like she did to Elijah, so I wasn’t so sure anymore.
“My ex–mate is like a whore, a cheap one. She’s a fucking dog.”
This time, I felt the sudden urge to punch him right now. I didn’t like how he was sounding at all. How dare he call her those names right before me?
I reminded myself it was because he had no idea she was now my fated mate. But I shouldn’t even be caring right now since I have no intention of accepting her as mf mate.
As I stared at Elijah’s face, I decided that I didn’t like him at all.
I let out a sigh as I got to my feet and Elijah stood up as well.
“Have you started working on the divorce papers?” I asked and he shook his head just as I rounded the tackle
and headed for the door.
“Yes, your majesty.”
He said as he fell into steps behind me.
“Have ir sent over as soon as it’s ready.” I instructed as we stepped out of my office and began fo walk down the hallway.
“Yes, sir. And since my ex–mate is now here, I was wondering how you’re enjoying her? Is she satisfying you in bed properly? She is the laziest in bed, and she prefers to lay back like a log of wood while you do all the work, but…”
A growl left my throat before I could stop it and this time, I grabbed his shirt. His eyes widened as he trailed off. My beast hasn’t liked how he has spoken about Elena at all, and I hadn’t liked it either.
“Watch your mouth.” I grounded as I let go of him and he nodded fast, eyes wide as he apologied, while looking confused over what had set me off. He need to worry because he wasn’t alone since I was as confused
as he is.
As we rounded the second corner, we came right across Elena who was walking beside one of the caretakers of the palace. The caretaker bowed and excused herself, but Elena frowned as she looked between us.
I noticed the moment her eyes darkened as they settled on her ex–mate. “What are you doing here??”
Elijah scoffed as he stepped forward. “Why? Shocked? I was here to bring a file containing all the people chested on me with.”

She let out a bitter laugh. “You can’t be serious right now. You’re still insisting on selling this lie? It’s clearly a lie so why are you still clinging onto it? Are you not tired?” She sounded genuinely hurt as she spoke and I frowned as I assessed her face.
She sounded like she was being honest right now.
“Shut up, you liar. You did cheat on me, you backstabbed me and you deserve every backlash you’re currently getting.” Elijah shot back at her with a laugh.
“You only did this to me cause you wanted to take another mate, and that’s only because she’s from an influential family. You should have done that without tarnishing my image, I wouldn’t have stopped you.” Elena said this time, her eyes burning with so much rage but Elijah only scoffed as he stepped forward again. My eyes ubeysktly narrowed, I didn’t like how close to her he was getting.
“Cry all you want. It won’t change anything. You’ll suffer forever…” he was still speaking when Elena unexpectedly slapped him hard across the face.
“I akwsys wanted to do that, since the moment you dared to ask me to fuck alpha Jason in exchange for you getting some favors from him. I wanted to do this that night you set me up, and I promise you that one day, I’ll get revenge on you and bring you down.” Her chest was heaving and her eyes shone brightly as she spoke. The slap was so loud, it was still echoing down the hallway.
Her exmate swore and fully closed the distance between them, but before he could hit her, i tugged him away from her and stepped between them.
“That’s enough now. You my leave, Elijah. And send the divorce papers over once it’s ready.” I instructed.
Elijah looked furious. His chest was red from anger and the slap Elena just gave him, and he clearly still want ti hit her back, but doing that might make me snap his throat. He made the better choice by nodding then bowing tensely, before turning around and leaving.
Once he was gone, I focused on Elena, taking in the lovely peach dress she had on that hugged her curves and matched her pale skin beautifully. She’s as beautiful as always, and the dusts of orange in her eyes seem to be sharper now.
“Are you okay?” I asked and she nodded as she exhaled and pushed her hair out of her face.
“Yeah, I am. Sorry you had to witness that. I was only coming to your office because I wanted to thank you again about laat night.”
I nodded as I wondered if she managed to sleep last night or if she was awake throughout like I was.
All that I began to feel for her since last night to this very moment was starting to unnerve me. The way I didn’t like that her ex–mate was speaking about her crassly, and the way I was actually listening to her side more in the exchange she just had with her mate. I just realized that I was starting to consider if she had been right this whole time about being set up by her mate, and that realization was jarring, because it was a clear indication that I wss no longer using my brain properly because she was starting to creep into it.
Which is why I need to shot those weird feeling down now, those soft feelings I felt towards her, feelings I’ve never experienced before… I needed to end this before it gets to something much worse.
“It meant nothing. Me saving you last night, don’t assume it meant anything because it dosent. I saved you

She blinked slowly before nodding. “Um… okay…”

“Yes.” I agreed before adding. “Today, we’ll visit the hospital so we can start the insemination process.”
