Chapter 10
VENUS
Mr Sinclair might’ve been an asshole about it, but he wasn’t wrong
The truth I didn’t really take one of myself like most girds did. Not because I didn’t like shopping, makeup, skincare, or spa days, God, 1 lover all that I just couldn’t afford to live like that.
It had been months since I last stepped into a salon My once dark, glossy hair was now dull and riddled with split ends. My wardrobe was ancient. My shoes? Let’s not even go there they looked like they’d survived a war.
Ed always been okay with how I looked, taller than most girls my age at 5’9“, waist–length black hair usually pulled into a lazy ponytail, peise frame, and brown eyes that were forgettable.ummil someone looked long enough to really see me
So yes, when I got the call for a spa appointment, I was giddy. Like, borderline losing my mind excited. I quickly drafted my resignation and hended to his office to hound it in.
He actually tried to be nice Which, maturally, freaked me out
I bolted right after, one step from freedom, when I heard it
“Venus, wait”
Every head in reception snapped toward the voice. And who else could it be but Mr. Sinclair?
You’d have to be new here to not know he never uses anyone’s first name. Especially not mine. And it was basically company lore how much he hated me,
“You forgot your phone” he said, walking over with something in his hand. My phone cracked screen and all, Great,
“Oh, thank you,” I muttered, hem creeping up my neck. Fantastic, I probably looked like a blushing tomato,
“You’re welcome,” he said with a smile that didn’t quite match his usual coldness. And then, before I could blink, he leaned down and kissed me on the cheek.
Gase Actual gasps
I stood there, Tren, my brain buffering like bad Wi–Fi–until it hit me Kake relationship. This was probably him soft–launching it.
Okay Showtime
“Bog . prode are looking.” I nudged his arm with mock annoyance
to play along.
“Let them,” he said with a shrug. “Come on. I’ll walk you out.”
We walked out of the building like some power couple fresh off a magazine cover, eyes still burning into us. I wanted to disappear, When we reached the parking lot, I hesitated.
Tuh. I don’t have a car
“Don’t worry” he said, Track to his usual tone, “my driver will take you home. He’ll also pick you up for the spa appointment.”
“A these ho are up would’ve been nice, I said through gritted teeth, referring to his cheeky performance earlier.
“My bad,” he replied, glancing at his watch. “Stellar job in there
Thank you
Tes the games begin, grifriend he smirked
blacked at him, strmud in all ing two months of working here. I never imagined those words would come out of his mouth I just dered as he turned and walked back into the building like he hadn’t put lipped my entire life upside down
