If he knew her plans, he could quietly help from behind the scenes, making things easier for her.
Pinned between him and the door, Aurora felt the heat of the moment turn strangely intimate, only for
him to bring up business with a straight face.

“Um… how about after I take a shower, we can talk about it then?” she asked hesitantly, her eyes
searching his.
She really was exhausted and had no desire to get into it right now.
But Lucas acted as though he couldn’t see her fatigue. His arm slid around her waist, pulling her flush

Aurora’s lips parted in alarm. “What are you doing?”

“What am I doing?” His hand traced along her slender back, every place he touched burning hot. “You should know that better than anyone.”
Aurora’s eyes darted away. “I don’t know. Don’t say things like that.”
“I’m going to rest. But what I told you just now–you’d better remember it.”
She still worried Megan might be dragged into this mess.
Lucas‘ sharp features loomed closer. “You mean about Megan, don’t you?”
Aurora nodded frantically.
“Yes. As long as you understand–it had nothing to do with her. I was the one who wanted to go.”
She had meant it too. Tonight, had been her idea, her choice, no one else’s.
Lucas‘ expression darkened. “If you want me to let her off the hook, then it depends on how you behave.”
The meaning behind his words was obvious, painfully so.

Aurora opened her mouth to protest, but her lips were crushed under his.
All that remained was the sound of her muffled, broken whimpers.

Excitement coursed through him, his body trembling with it.
Not until he laid her down on the softness of their bed did the moment feel fully real.
Bracing his arms so he wouldn’t crush her, Lucas leaned in close, his voice brushing against her ear.
“Megan’s fate, depends on how you perform tonight, Honey.”
Aurora’s cheeks flamed scarlet.
She yanked him down by the neck until their bodies pressed tightly together.
Her teeth clenched as she spat out, “Cut the nonsense. Just get on with it.”
She had to keep Megan and her allowance safe.
Aurora would endure it.
Lucas couldn’t help but laugh at the look on her face–like a martyr headed to the gallows.
“What are you so tense for?” he teased, a smirk tugging at his lips. “I’m not going to eat you.”
