Chapter 248

Rebecca’s POV

The door to the beachfront villa had barely closed behind us when Sofia practically tackled me, wrapping her arms around me with such force that I nearly lost my balance.

“Old Gods! You’re alive!” she exclaimed, her voice cracking with emotion. “I’ve been going out of my mind, Becca! The news reports, the rumors spreading through the pack networks… I thought-” She pulled back, eyes scanning me for injuries, her hands gripping my shoulders.

I gently placed my hands over hers, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me now that I was finally somewhere safe. “It’s over, Sofia. The Collins couple is gone. Rivera is handling the aftermath.” My voice sounded hollow even to my own ears, the adrenaline that had kept me going finally ebbing away.

Behind me, Dominic closed the door, his presence solid and reassuring. The silver wound on his arm was carefully bandaged, but I could sense through our bond that the poison was still causing him considerable pain.

“Where is he?” I asked, my heart suddenly racing with anticipation. “Where’s Lucas?”

Sofia’s expression softened. “Sleeping, finally. He’s been fussy, like he knew something was wrong.” She gestured toward the nursery. “Diana’s been amazing with him.”

moved toward the nursery with quick steps, my body drawn to my child like a magnet. The room was dimly lit with a soft night light casting gentle shadows across the walls. I knelt beside the crib, my hands trembling slightly as I reached out to touch Lucas’s perfect little face. Tears slid silently down my cheeks as I watched his chest rise and fall with each tiny breath.

“He’s fine,” I whispered, overwhelmed by how much I’d missed him in the short time we’d been apart. The thought that anyone would threaten him made my blood run cold.

I felt Dominic’s presence before I saw him, leaning against the doorframe, his eyes never leaving us. The intensity of his gaze warmed me from within.

I carefully stood up, not wanting to wake Lucas. Dominic approached us, his hand sliding around my waist, his breath warm against my ear. “Let’s leave him with Diana. You need to rest.”

I noticed how he carefully avoided using his injured right arm, keeping it slightly away from his body. Through our bond, I could feel waves of discomfort radiating from him, though his face betrayed nothing. The wound from the silver dagger was taking on an ominous grayish tinge around the edges, visible even through the bandage that had started to soak through.

I stood alone on the private balcony off our bedroom, letting the cool night air wash over me. The moon hung low over the ocean, its silver light painting a glistening path across the dark waters. My fingers unconsciously traced the mate mark on my neck, feeling the slightly raised pattern beneath my fingertips.

The sound of the balcony door sliding open pulled me from my thoughts. Dominic approached with two glasses of red wine, his movements slightly stiff. His face was paler than usual, making the dark circles under his eyes more pronounced.

To our victory,” he said, handing me a glass, his smile not quite reaching his eyes.

I accepted the wine but my gaze was fixed on his injured arm. The bandage was now stained with a disturbing mixture of blood and grayish fluid. “The poison is spreading, isn’t it? I can feel it through our bond.”

Dominic glanced down at his arm, his expression hardening momentarily before he forced another smile. I’ll go to the doctor tomorrow.”

I set my wine glass down on the small table between the lounge chairs, my decision made. “Let me see it,” I said, my voice firmer than I intended.

He hesitated, then placed his own glass down beside mine. “Rebecca, it’s nothing-”

“Let me see it,” I repeated, already reaching for his arm.

With a resigned sigh, he extended his arm toward me. I carefully unwrapped the bandage, wincing at what I found beneath. The wound was angry and inflamed, with dark gray lines spreading outward from the puncture site like poisonous roots seeking purchase.

When my fingers touched the wound, something strange happened. I felt a warmth building within me, flowing from somewhere deep in my chest, through my arms, and into my fingertips. The mate bond between us suddenly became visible in my mind’s eye, like a golden thread connecting us.

“I can feel your pain,” I whispered, closing my eyes. “It’s like it’s my own.”

I didn’t understand what was happening, but I followed my instincts, allowing that warm energy to flow freely. It wanted to move, to heal, to protect.

“What are you doing?” Dominic’s voice sounded distant, confused.

I couldn’t answer. I was too focused on the sensation. “I don’t know… I just feel like it wants to flow… wants to heal…”

My hands began to emit a soft golden glow, barely noticeable at first, then growing stronger. The light enveloped Dominic’s arm, spreading along the tracks of poison, warming the skin beneath my touch. I felt a tingling sensation in my palms, a pleasant burning that seemed to connect directly to our bond.

Dominic watched in stunned silence as the gray lines around his wound began to recede, the angry red inflammation fading to a healthier pink. The light continued to pulse between us, synchronized with our heartbeats, until finally it began to dim.

When I opened my eyes, flecks of gold still danced in my vision. “Does it feel better?” I asked, my voice barely audible.

Dominic flexed his arm experimentally, his eyes wide with astonishment. He rotated his wrist, bent his elbow, and clenched his fist- movements that would have been agonizing moments before. “The pain is gone,” he said in disbelief. “The poison too. How did you do

that?”

I shook my head, equally amazed. “I think it’s the mate bond. I just… felt your pain and wanted it to stop.”

Dominic pulled me into his arms, his right arm now strong and sure around my waist. His voice was thick with emotion when he spoke. *Luna, my moon. You are my light in the darkness.” He paused, a small smile playing at his lips. “Literally, it seems.”

His fingers gently traced my cheekbone, and I could feel our bond humming with renewed strength. “You never cease to amaze me,” he murmured.

I looked up at him, suddenly very aware of the electric current flowing between us. “Perhaps we should explore what else this connection can do…”
