Chapter 292
“What’s going on?”
As soon as the others left, Jessica grabbed Chris by the collar and looked him up and down.
After a long pause, she asked, “How come I didn’t know that a little girl has a crush on you?”
“Let me explain…”
“Well, is she better than me in every way?”
Before Jessica could finish teasing him, Chris quickly pulled her into his arms.
Jessica had been sitting on the armrest, so Chris didn’t need much strength to hold her close.
He kissed her chattering lips and chuckled. “No one is better than you. You’re the best in this world.”
Jessica laughed softly.
When Chris’s surgery ended, it was almost time for him to get off work, and then he went to the lounge to talk to Natalie.
Jessica had waited outside the hospital for a long time but didn’t see Chris come out, so she decided to go in and check, taking the last quarter’s reports and losses with her.
Unexpectedly, only Francesca was in the office.
Francesca said that Chris was in the lounge, meeting with the little girl from the Lawson family.
Jessica held no hostility toward Natalie.
It wasn’t because she was confident or looked down on the girl.
It was simply because… she trusted Chris.
When two people had been together a long time, that was the kind of confidence they developed.
During those five years Jessica was giving Chris the silent treatment, he hadn’t lacked temptations—but he never went against his own heart, nor betrayed their relationship.
Back then, their feelings were still developing, even if Jessica had easily cut things off, Chris never once had thoughts of betrayal.
After getting changed and going downstairs, the driver was already half asleep and waiting.
Once in the car, Chris called Felix.
“Jessica and I have already told Natalie. You agreed to let her study art. What the hell have you been saying to your daughter? Her father studied arts, and you say she’s just like him–that’s obvious, isn’t it?”
Felix sat in his office and laughed helplessly.

“My brother–in–law is good at everything, but when it comes to painting talent… it’s just average. Yet somehow, his passion for art attracted my sister, who fought hard to marry him.”
Looking back, their trip to Lonat years ago was because of an art exhibition there, Felix’s brother–in–law wanted to go, so the couple went–and never came back.
It wasn’t true that Felix didn’t resent his brother–in–law, but so many years had passed, and everything that could be done had been done. The deceased was gone, and Felix’s job now was to take good care of their only daughter.
“Ah, forget it. The plan to study abroad has to move forward. If you’re worried, assign someone to look after Natalie,” said Chris.
Felix replied, “That’s what I was thinking too, but… sending a bodyguard to school with her, that wouldn’t be right, would it?”
Chris was about to reply when Jessica waved at him.
Instinctively, Chris handed the phone to Jessica.
Usually, when Jessica was around, Chris put the call on loudspeaker–there was nothing she couldn’t hear.
Jessica took the phone.
“Hello, Mr. Lawson, this is Jessica speaking.”
Felix paused briefly.
“Ms. Wilder.”
Both were polite and courteous, outside social occasions, they had never met privately. Felix’s only knowledge of Jessica was as Chris’s wife or a business figure.
“Mr. Lawson, you’ve been getting quite close to Chris recently. Knowing Chris’s personality, I know he sees you as a friend, otherwise, he wouldn’t play tennis, chess, or dine with you. Since you’re friends, I’m willing to help.”
