Chapter 3
But my brother had clearly been a gang leader.
From the day he picked me up, he had given me an ample sense of security and warmth.
It was just that he had a strong desire to control.
To protect me, he had installed cameras and a positioning chip on me, just in case.
So in the past, whenever I was bullied, he could always show up on time.
I believed he would come this time, too.
Moreover, the Hernandez family had been nothing in front of him.
Several hours had passed.
I couldn’t count how many men had trampled on my dignity. They had yelled obscenely, saying they would let me experience the ultimate pleasure in the world.
A huge sense of shame had been almost swallowing me whole.
It wasn’t until someone drew a slip of paper saying they would have sex with me that Duncan called a halt.
His frosty eyes grew even colder.
“Valerie, I can let you go. But you must kneel down, slap yourself 100 times, and bow down to apologize to Angela.”
I lay in the sewage, on the verge of death.
My limbs had turned black and purple from the cold.
How could I have the strength to bow down, apologize, or slap myself?
Even if I had the strength, I could never do such a thing that trampled on my dignity.
I spat out a mouthful of dark, clotted blood.

“Impossible!
“My brother knows every move I make. He’ll come to save me soon.”
The man laughed in anger.
“You must’ve been hit so hard that you became silly. He hasn’t shown up to save you yet–bet your so–called worker brother isn’t coming at all. Hahaha.”
The words barely left his mouth when the factory’s rusted iron gate suddenly crashed open with a deafening bang, sending a cloud of dust swirling into the air.
“Who says I’m not coming?”
A loud, firm voice cut through the noise.
A familiar figure came into view.
Zachary’s face was dark as he strode toward the crowd.
“Oh, so this is Ms. Scott’s brother? Why’re you still in your work clothes?”
Someone said with a laugh.
They looked at the dirty work clothes on him, their faces filled with disgust.
I was a little confused.
In my memory, my brother always wore a suit and polished leather shoes.
Moreover, he was a total career–minded person, hanging out in various business karaoke every day to discuss deals.
“Valerie, you caused Angela to be bullied, and this matter is also your brother’s fault. He failed to teach his sister properly. Today, I’ll punish him along with you!”
A hint of anger clouded Duncan’s face.
He stared at Zachary.
His eyes were full of provocation.

One of them spat on him and sneered, “You? You’re just a piece of trash!”
Zachary flew into a rage instantly and kicked the man away with one foot.
The crowd was shocked.
He was skilled in martial arts, and none of them could match him.
The men surrounded him, spewing arrogant words.
“With your lousy skills, you still want to save someone? If I don’t beat you to a pulp today, I’m no man!”
“Exactly! Don’t hold back, everyone. Beat him to death. Mr. Hernandez will back us up anyway!”
After saying that, they swung their fists at Zachary.
But Zachary didn’t panic at all. He handled it with ease and knocked those men to the ground.
The crowd started to panic.
“Isn’t Valerie’s brother just an ordinary worker? How come he’s so good at fighting?”
Even Duncan’s expression changed.
He narrowed his eyes and glanced at the iron rod on the ground.
I suddenly had a bad feeling.
“Zachary, watch out!”
Sure enough, taking advantage of Zachary’s inattention, Duncan sneaked up from behind and hit him hard with a stick.
Zachary staggered, a faint, pained smile spreading across his face.
He looked at me, his eyes filled with tenderness.
“Valerie, just wait a little longer.”
Duncan, standing behind, laughed.
“Pathetic! I thought you had some incredible skills, but you’re nothing more than this.”

Suddenly, the roar of a dozen military aircraft echoed through the air.
Duncan tried to turn around to look, but his head was already pinned down by a gun held by one of Zachary’s men, leaving him unable to move.
