I heard that after losing me, Duncan finally remembered how good I was to him.
He got blackout drunk and returned to the Hernandez’s residence, staring at our wedding photo with reddened eyes.
The warmth in the man’s eyes was uncontrollable.
Clear tears fell one by one into his palm.
He spent all day staring at my photos, swearing to win me back.
But I had already lost all feelings for him.
Midway through, he asked to meet me.
“I know you still love me… let’s get back together.
“Everything that happened before was all because that witch Angela was causing trouble. She wanted to break us apart, and we can’t let her succeed.”
I stared at his face and couldn’t help but find it amusing.
Taking a sip of my coffee, I said slowly.
“You’re wrong. I stopped loving you a long time ago.”
The man’s once sharp and imposing eyebrows were now slightly drooping.
His eyes flickered with an obsessive light, revealing a twisted smile filled with fixation and madness.
“I don’t believe it. You recorded my preferences in your memo, your photo album had my pictures, and you even carved a ring for me by hand. I don’t believe you don’t love me.
“Just admit you still love me, okay? Stop being stubborn.”
Memories took root in my heart, dense and overwhelming.
Love for someone is like holding a torch against the wind–blazing yet sorrowful.

What’s more, to me, he was just a flickering candle that should be snuffed out by the first breeze.
Facing the man’s pleas, my heart remained unmoved.
“Let’s get divorced.”
I handed him the divorce papers.
But he refused to sign them.
After that, he followed me every day, sending me flowers and jewelry.
But I threw them all away.
I threw these things into different trash cans and sent Duncan a message.
“If you can find every single gift you gave me without missing one, I’ll consider forgiving you.”
The man immediately replied.
“Okay.”
I secretly smiled to myself. It was just a way to humiliate him, yet he actually took it seriously.
On a stormy day, Duncan appeared at the Rodriguez’s residence, completely filthy.
In his hands were the gifts he had just retrieved from eight tons of garbage over the past few days.
“Valerie, I found them all. Can you forgive me now?”
The man looked delighted, but I sneered disdainfully.
“Duncan, are you insane? Digging gifts out of trash cans to give to me–how shameless!”
The man was stunned.
“Didn’t you tell me to…”
I remembered what he said to me that day at the abandoned factory.
“Do you always have to do whatever I say? Don’t you have any judgment? I said it casually,

and you actually took it seriously?”
He was left speechless by my retort.
I crossed my arms and glanced at him sideways.
“Fine, fine. For the sake of our years as husband and wife, as long as you’re willing to kneel in the rain for one night, I’ll consider forgiving you.”
Duncan still agreed.
The 1.83–meter–tall man knelt in the rain.
I enjoyed red wine inside the house.
Zachary walked over and helped me slip on my shoes.
He gently lifted my ankle and said tenderly.
“Went to see that jerk again?”
I laughed.
“Just wanted to mess with him a bit. What, are you jealous?”
Zachary leaned closer to me.
“I’m keeping track of this. I’ll settle the score with you later…”
This scene was witnessed entirely by Duncan outside the window. His eyes reddened, and his nails dug into his palms.
His eyes went through emotions like a revolving lantern–from shock to unwillingness to sadness.
Before, he was always confident about having me, thinking I was a dog by his side that couldn’t be driven away.
So he trampled on my genuine feelings and never treated me like a human being.
I didn’t pay attention to Duncan outside the window, just focused on chatting with Zachary about childhood memories.
Near midnight, we were both quite drunk.

Zachary asked me, his eyes filled with hope.
“Valerie, when will you marry me? I’ve been waiting for you for so long.”
With alcohol clouding my judgment, I looked at his perfectly sculpted face and smiled softly.
“Anytime.”
The man grinned mischievously.
“Then tomorrow!”
I couldn’t hide my excitement. My ears turned red, and I could only nod blankly.
