Chapter 23
Julian’s heart completely froze at these words. He watched her leave, his hand dropping to his side. His tired eyes slowly reddened, welling up with tears. A deep sense of powerlessness and despair surged through him, making his breathing quicken significantly.
Julian sat alone in the corner for a long time. The restaurant had closed, and a waiter came over to remind him. He finally came to his senses, handed over the bag in his hand, and pleaded with the waiter for help.
Although the warm egg reduced the swelling, it still couldn’t alleviate the pain. Shelly was so busy with this that she didn’t even eat dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Everest specially sent over a steak, and seeing the wound on her leg, they were both incredibly heartbroken.
Just as the waiter came to deliver towels, they asked about it. Hearing that the hotel had medicine available for only 100 euros, they immediately bought a portion. A short while later, the waiter brought the medicine up.
Seeing the still–sealed medicine box, Shelly felt something was strange. She had asked the cleaning omega earlier in the afternoon, and they said the hotel did not sell medicine. How could it be that just two hours later, with a different person, the story changed?
She had doubts and wanted to ask again, but Mr. Everest was already applying the medicine to her. “Shelly, we’ve already paid, so don’t worry about where the medicine came from,” he said.“Let’s just treat the injury first.”
“Exactly,” her mother added. “You fell so badly, who knows if you can even get out of bed tomorrow. How about we rest for two days before going to Iceland?”
Shelly’s small concerns quickly vanished with these few words. After a night’s rest, although there was still bruising on her leg, it no longer hurt. The family traveled to Iceland as originally planned.
Shelly was overjoyed to reunite with her aunt, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time. The two were inseparable. Under the magnificent aurora, she raised her hand and made a wish for her twenty–third birthday.
“I hope to see a broader world in the new year, meet more interesting people, and that everyone around me stays healthy and safe,” she
wished.
Hearing these rather conventional wishes, her aunt chuckled, nudged her arm, and teased her in a low voice.“Is that all? Aren’t you going to make a wish for yourself to fall madly in love with a handsome guy?”
Shelly knew her aunt was joking and was about to retort when her eyes caught a familiar figure. Ten meters away, Julian stood in the crowd, gazing intently at her.
Her aunt followed her gaze, her eyes lit up, and she called out with a smile.“I think that handsome guy is pretty good. Why don’t you go give it a try?”
Julian also heard this sentence and immediately became nervous and uneasy, with a hint of anticipation in his awkward expression. His wolf also immediately let out a joyful roar, staring intently ahead.
Shelly averted her gaze, her tone clearer than ever.“There’s no such possibility.”
Her aunt, unaware of the entanglement between the two, looked surprised. “So certain, huh? From your tone, it sounds like you know him. Like an ex–boyfriend you swore never to speak to again after breaking up.”
The unintentional joke, however, hit the nail on the head. But after so much had happened and so much time had passed, Shelly had indeed completely let go. So when these old matters were brought up again, her heart was completely clear, and she felt no resentment. “There was never going to be any contact.”
Hearing her say this with a laugh, Julian felt his heart being sliced by a knife, and a warm wetness welled up in his eyes. Cotton couldn’t

Everyone around them was taking photos and making wishes, but he remained utterly alone. He looked up at the brilliant aurora in the sky, and some long–buried memories surged into his mind. On his eighteenth birthday, he had once made a wish.
In this life, he wanted to climb the highest mountains, dive into the deepest seas, skydive once, and see the most romantic aurora. Shelly stood beside him; he would say a line, and she would repeat it. Now, they were standing beneath the aurora.
Yet, they had been lost to each other in a sea of people.
