Abandoned, Isabelle didn’t care about anything else. Her inner wolf, wounded and desperate, threw caution to the wind, spilling everything she knew with a mocking laugh.
“Do you know what I found in your place? Zoe’s scent markers! You two must have marked territory together quite a few times, right? Zoe is such an idiot, for four years, she willingly remained your secret… submissive!” Her wolf howled with malice.
“Ethan, you’re the one who didn’t believe her, you’re the one who saw her being tormented but still chose me. You think I forced Zoe away? It was you!”
With every word she spoke, Ethan’s face grew a few shades darker, and his fists clenched tighter. His wolf snarled, barely contained.
“It seems you still haven’t realized your mistake.” He said, commanding the guards to pin Isabelle down again and drag her away, leaving behind only Isabella’s screaming voice.
Back at the Lycan’s compound, Ethan had his guards lock her in the holding cells, forcing her to repeat what she had once done to slander Zoe, only this time, she was the one suffering the consequences under ancient werewolf law.
The Pack Council convened, ensuring she would face justice.
She was forced to endure the sting of wolfsbane, getting blisters on her reddened hands from the burns, or made to kneel as punishment. Kneeling for an entire day, even if she fainted and woke up, she had to continue kneeling.
During this time, Ethan never once went to see her; he had more important things to do. His wolf yearned for his true mate.
Ever since he recognized his bond, he vowed to win me back.
He came to Lydia’s place in the country and announced himself with a howl.
His sister quickly emerged from her den, but she seemed not to expect it to be him; the welcome in her eyes froze, turning into an expression of disdain.
“What are you doing here?”
Ethan knew he was in the wrong, so he came laden with gifts, raising a smile at Lydia. His wolf whined at the tension.
“I haven’t had a chance to visit since you moved back. These are all for you, Lydia.” He presented a selection of finely cured meats and rare herbs.
Lydia didn’t want to accept his kindness, but I was right; no matter what, they were siblings, bound by blood. She ushered Ethan inside with a cold face, piercing through his disguise with a challenging scent.
“You’re here to ask about Zoe, aren’t you? I told you, I won’t tell you, so just give up.”
Ethan entered the den, put down the gifts, and spoke softly.
“Lydia, I know I made a mistake, and I want to make it up to her. Can you tell me where Zoe went, okay? I won’t let Isabelle hurt her again, and in the future, I’ll bond with her properly. Aren’t you and her good friends? If Zoe and I become mates in the future, you’ll be able to see her every day too.”
Lydia quickly cut him off, her scent hardening with disapproval.
“Even without you, Zoe and I are still good friends. As long as she’s doing well, I don’t care where she is. Ethan, you hurt her so many times, and you’re still thinking about winning her back? Before, it was you who told me that Isabelle
was your
chosen one.”

The man choked on his words for a moment and didn’t speak, but Lydia was naturally a straightforward person.
As soon as she thought of the grievances Zoe had suffered, she got angry. Seeing Ethan didn’t say a word; she became even more sarcastic. Her wolf bristled, ready to defend her friend.
“For Isabelle, you not only lashed out at me, but you also hurt Zoe. Ethan, you’re saying you’re wrong now, don’t you think it’s too late?
tell you, Zoe is living very well abroad now!”
Let me
Hearing these words, Ethan’s body swayed slightly. He took a deep breath and bowed his head in front of his sister.
“Lydia, I know I was wrong. I’ve already punished Isabelle. I can take you to see if you don’t believe me. Tell Zoe that I know I was wrong. Zoe craved me so much. She longed for me for eight years, a whole eight years. She must be able to forgive me… Sis, help me this one time, I’m begging you.”
The more he spoke, the faster his speech, as if something was chasing him, and his eyes were red. But these words sounded incredibly ridiculous to Lydia’s ears. It was the first time she had found her brother so laughable.
“You know she longed for you for eight years, so how did you treat her? You treated her as a den–mate, a tool, a pet you could summon and dismiss at will! You yourself exhausted her love. Now Zoe is gone, and you know you were wrong, Ethan, she could feel pain too!” Ethan heard his sister’s words, and the regret in his heart grew stronger. His voice hoarse, his eyes bloodshot, he knelt down directly. “Lydia, at least let me see Zoe once, just once. If she really doesn’t forgive me, I’ll never bother her again.”
From pup–hood to adulthood, Ethan had never begged anyone. This was the first time he actually knelt before someone, and it was his own sister, just for Zoe, someone who had left him. His wolf felt the weight of his actions.
Lydia also didn’t expect her arrogant brother to go to such lengths, but she couldn’t bring herself to betray her good friend for her
brother.
Lydia irritably gnashed her teeth.
“I can help you ask. If Zoe is willing to see you, I’ll tell
you her current location.”
Ethan who had originally given up hope instantly brightened his eyes, nodding.
