Chapter 294
Jessica sat beside Mrs. Wilder.
Chris called out “Mom” and followed the butler, carrying bags to the kitchen.

“I don’t know who sent these things. Looks like they just came back from abroad,” Mrs. Wilder said calmly.
“We’re not lacking anything anyway, and we’re afraid someone might tamper with them, so they were left outside. Has anyone told you about this?”
Jessica shook her head. “If someone wanted to send you something for business, they’d definitely tell me first or just send it directly to the company. I would definitely tell you or Albert.”
That made sense.
“Why did you suddenly ask for me to come over?” asked Jessica.
Mrs. Wilder looked at her daughter carefully. When the incident at Montvue Tower happened, she had already seen the news early in the morning and had surely tried to call Jessica, but the communications were cut off and the calls couldn’t get through.
Back then, Mrs. Wilder wasn’t too worried, but Albert almost drove there late at night.
After all, Albert had raised Jessica himself and cared for Jessica deeply. Being about the same age as Mrs. Wilder, Albert treated Jessica like his own daughter.
On the day Chris left to participate in the disaster relief, Maggie had called Mrs. Wilder, saying Jessica had gone with the project team into the mountains. However, the accident site was quite far from Montvue Tower, and she only said Jessica was probably safe.
No one dared to make any promises.
Maggie’s call was to reassure Mrs. Wilder and to ask for her help if anything came up at the company.
When Jessica and Chris came home, Mrs. Wilder looked unmoved but was actually scrutinizing them from head to toe to make sure they weren’t injured.
Everyone was back, unharmed, so there was nothing more to say.
Mrs. Wilder suddenly asked, “Have you been in contact with Sophie recently?”
Except for that one phone call during the New Year, no one–Jessica, Mrs. Wilder, or the secretary–could reach Sophie despite trying repeatedly.
After switching phones, at first there was no answer, then the calls stopped going through altogether.
“No,” replied Jessica. Thinking of her younger sister made her think of Natalie – both of them made their
relatives restless.
“I’m planning to visit her sometime soon. I sent her abroad hoping she would learn something or settle down, stop thinking about people she shouldn’t, but now it seems that I was too reckless.”

Mrs. Wilder turned on the TV. “Take a look at this.”
There was another report about Altairy on TV.
It was said that Aitairy’s headquarters was moving back to Impelia from Lonat, but Lonat would still remain its largest branch, which now had a spokesperson.
Jessica suddenly sat up straight.
The spokesperson was none other than Sophie.
In the interview, Sophie used the alias Carol. The Aitairy local director said to the camera, “Yes, Miss Carol is not only our spokesperson but also our acting director. After the our headquarters is moved back to Cheria, as the largest branch, this place will be fully under Miss Carol’s management.”
The volume of the TV was loud. At the mention of Aitairy, Chris and Albert also came out and saw Sophie on the
screen.
“How could this be…”
Jessica immediately took out her phone to call Sophie, but unsurprisingly, the call couldn’t get through.
It seemed Sophie had already made her choice a long time ago and chose to hide it from her family.
“Has Sophie gone crazy?” Jessica was furious. “Does she even know about that Dad…”
Mrs. Wilder said, “Sophie certainly doesn’t know. She’s been following Michael blindly and believing only his side of the story. I guess she won’t contact us because of what Michael told her.”
