“Don’t.” Chris quickly grabbed Jessica’s hand.

“We were just chatting. Indya mentioned this trip to Lonat–at first she thought it would just be the two of us. Now it’s turned into a the Wilder Group team–building trip. She’s taking the Lightnings club along. Not only that, she also has to bring Blake. That’s what she was complaining about.”
Jessica said, “A few days ago Anthony came to the company looking for Indya, and I happened to see him. I think Anthony just keeps bouncing back no matter how many setbacks he faces. I figured taking her on a business trip would give her a chance to avoid things. What, she’s not willing?”
“She’s willing, but she feels like the workload on the business trip will be too much, and she’s afraid she won’t be able to handle it.”
Nina called them and started talking about Luke.
“It’s already confirmed Luke is faking his illness. Mrs. Zorro doesn’t believe Frederick’s medical certificate, insists it was someone my brother hired. What a joke–Frederick giving someone a fake diagnosis?” cursed
Nina.
Chris put the call on loudspeaker and set the phone on the desk, while Jessica handled her paperwork and listened to Nina’s ranting for amusement.
“Isn’t that normal for the Hall family?” Jessica said disdainfully. “Since Luke is pretending to be sick, can’t your brother just deal with him?”
“Of course not. Either he’s faking his illness or not, Luke still can’t leave the hospital right now.”
The hospital had already issued a diagnosis certificate. He would need at least four months to recover. If he left the hospital before then, his vitality would plummet, and he might be dead in two days.
When Mrs. Zorro saw her son like that, she immediately pushed Roy to hurry up and give Marcy a sentence.
“Marcy isn’t the real mastermind, but she took all the blame on herself. My brother suspects Michael is the one pulling strings behind the scenes,” said Nina.
Jessica lowered her head, signed a document, and didn’t respond.
Chris thought for a moment and said, “That’s very possible.” He glanced at Jessica.
Now, whenever Michael’s name came up, Jessica no longer showed even the slightest reaction.
One couldn’t tell at all that the two of them had once been together.
Chris said, “Michael is petty. He won’t let go of anyone who ever crossed him. Before he regained his Alpha identity, Luke sabotaged his plans several times. Michael definitely bore a grudge.”
“Michael doesn’t just hold grudges,” said Jessica. “Michael simply doesn’t allow any enemies to exist.”
Nina was puzzled. “But the Hall family hasn’t been Michael’s target for a long time, and Luke has no chance of inheriting the Hall family’s wealth.”

“Michael doesn’t want the Hall family, but he also won’t allow the Hall family to continue.”
That was Michael’s hatred.

The reason Jessica hadn’t moved yet to let Jaden return to the Hall family was because she feared Michael would shift his target to Jaden, which would cause more harm than good.
It was better to eliminate Michael first, and then let Jaden rightfully take his place.
As long as they found Sir Hall’s will, they could force Thomas to step down with just a flick of their fingers.
“Just talking about the Hall family gives me a headache. My brother hasn’t been home for days, and Grandma even asked if he was dating someone. What a joke–how would my brother have time to date anyone?”
Roy barely had time to grab a meal, let alone date anyone.
“By the way, since you’re going to Lonat, bring me back a set of…” Nina began rattling off a shopping list, treating them like personal shoppers.
Chris didn’t understand a word of what she was naming.
But Jessica listened quietly, occasionally asking about shades and colors.
After Nina hung up, Chris thought to himself that he had never really given Jessica anything.
For most people in relationships, it was normal to surprise their girlfriend once in a while with a small gift—a lipstick, a bag–things that could strengthen their bond.
But in their marriage, Jessica was always the one earning more.
As for him, whatever little money he had was just the salary she paid him.
