Chapter 1277
Why was it that, even after coming this far, there were still people dissatisfied with her?
What more did they want her to do?
Tessa’s eyes were bloodshot as she glared at Grace.
“Mom, I just want to know what I’ve done wrong. Why does everyone in the company hate me so much? I’ve been working hard–what else do they want me to do?
“I’ve done so many things and tried so many times, yet people are still unhappy with me. It’s as if whatever I do is always wrong.”
As she spoke, she stepped closer and closer to Grace. “Even a lowly assistant dares to step over me and criticize me.”
Grace and Jason exchanged startled looks.
They had never seen Tessa like this before. Usually, she acted fairly normal, not panicking when things came up. But now, her whole state of mind seemed unhinged.
Grace drew in a long breath and said to her, “Don’t get so worked up. This is the company–you need to watch your image.”
“My image? Who’s ever cared about my feelings?” Tessa pressed a hand against her chest, laughing bitterly. “And Jason–what exactly did you mean by what you just said?” Her eyes burned with hatred as she turned on him.
Hearing this, Grace’s scalp prickled.
“Jason was only reporting the company’s current situation to me. There was no other meaning. Don’t read into it.”
Seeing the tears in Tessa’s eyes made Grace’s heart ache, but she knew she had to uphold her authority here at the company.
“Besides, in your position as director, you really haven’t produced any solid results. If you want others to respect you, then you need to show them results and your actual ability.”
Grace’s face no longer carried the softness of a mother’s pity.
She knew that if she only kept shielding her daughter under her wing, Tessa would never grow.
Even if Grace always protected her at the company, she would make no progress.
People weren’t fools–without Grace, Tessa was nothing.
And if the employees couldn’t respect their leader, then it meant that leader had utterly failed. A leader with no credibility had no right to lead.
Grace was only trying to teach Tessa how to grow.

But Tessa couldn’t understand her mother’s good intentions at all.

Hearing Grace’s words, her tears streamed down even harder. “So, in your heart, I’m nothing compared to Aurora, is that what you mean?”
“How could you think that?” Grace’s brows furrowed deeply. At this point, she couldn’t even understand how Tessa’s mind worked anymore.
Even now, she was still blaming others instead of looking at herself.
Jason stood to the side, watching mother and daughter argue, feeling uneasy.
After all, it had been his words that Tessa overheard. If not for that, the quarrel wouldn’t have blown up like this.
“Um, Miss Tessa, I really didn’t mean it that way,” Jason tried to explain.
