Chapter 7 Midnight Confessions
Chapter 7 Midnight Confessions
It was early in the morning when Hunter arrived at the villa he’d bought for Celine.
Inside, the lights were still on. Celine had stayed up waiting, and a full spread of food was laid out on the dining table.

As soon as he stepped through the door, she greeted him with a warm smile, gently taking his coat. “You’re home,” she said softly. “You must be starving. I made you something to eat–come, have a little.”
Hunter offered a faint smile. “Why are you still awake at this hour?”
Celine wrapped her arms around his, resting her cheek on his shoulder. “I can’t sleep when you’re not here.”
Hunter nodded. “Then let me help you fall asleep.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to eat something?”
“I’m not hungry. Just a little tired,” he replied, leading her gently to the bedroom.
Once she was tucked in, Hunter carefully pulled the blanket up around her. “Sleep,” he murmured. “I’ll stay right here.”
But Celine could tell something was off. His mood felt heavier than usual. “Hunter,” she asked cautiously, “is something bothering you? Are you still worried about Dana?”
Just then, a soft chime lit up Hunter’s phone. Celine quickly glanced at the screen and hastily turned it off, hoping he hadn’t seen.
But he had. In that brief flash, Hunter caught a glimpse of a message–from the doctor treating Celine’s memory loss. The message simply read, “3 million.”
Maybe it had something to do with recovering her memories.
Hunter didn’t dwell on it.
Instead, he leaned closer and said gently, “Celine, I know you’ve always believed Dana caused that crash–that she tried to kill you just to be with me. But the truth is, you were lucky to survive at all, even if it meant losing your memory.
“Later, when we learned that hearing about Dana’s injuries or humiliation might bring your memories back, we hatched a plan- trick her, disgrace her, push her buttons–anything to help you remember.
“Over the years, Dana’s already suffered more than enough because of us. Even if she really did try to kill you, she’s paid for it.
“Now that your memory’s back, it’s time we stop tormenting her.”
Celine bit her lip at this. “So, you feel sorry for her now?”
Hunter didn’t answer.
That silence terrified her. Tears welled up in her eyes. “Do you still love me? Or have you fallen for her again?”
Hunter’s thoughts were a mess. He didn’t know how to answer.
Did he love Dana? Years ago, yes. Without a doubt.

But after the landslide, after Celine risked her life for him while Dana was off vacationing overseas as if nothing happened, he began to hate her.
That hatred had fueled him to stand by Celine’s side–to help her, to protect her, and to hurt Dana in return.
But now, when he thought about before Celine risked everything in that mudslide, was it Celine he had truly loved back then?
All he could manage was a low, quiet reply. “I want to stop hurting her.”
Celine’s heart sank. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. She had wanted Hunter to see Dana fall–humiliated and helpless–and completely give up on her.
But things had taken a different turn. Hunter wasn’t angry anymore. He felt sorry for Dana.
Panic surged inside her. Hunter had drifted away from her.
“If she didn’t tie Hunter down soon, things might spiral out of control.
She had to marry him. Fast. Before he slipped through her fingers.”
She grabbed his hand, choking back sobs. “Hunter, please don’t leave me. Don’t fall in love with Dana. I can’t live without you.
“I remember everything now. Tonight, all the memories came rushing back. I even remember what you told me before the accident. You said you’d marry me. Does that promise still count?”
Hunter let out a long sigh. “You should get some sleep. I’ve still got work to finish.”
And with that, he left the room.
Celine watched him disappear down the hallway. Her soft expression hardened in an instant.
She didn’t know what Dana had done to rekindle Hunter’s affection–but she wasn’t about to lose him.
Back in college, she had been the star of the campus–beautiful, confident, and pursued by countless men. But none of them had ever mattered.
One glance at Hunter, and she’d fallen head over heels.
She’d confessed to him, again and again, swallowing her pride–only to be ignored.
Because back then, Hunter had eyes only for Dana.
It wasn’t until the incident, when fate handed her a rare opportunity, that everything changed. She had secretly taken credit for a stranger’s act of heroism–donating blood that saved Hunter’s life–and suddenly, he saw her differently.
She had worked so hard to finally win him over. There was no way she was letting go now. But Dana … Dana had always been the biggest threat between them.
And if she wanted Hunter all to herself, Dana had to go.
Therefore, Celine had prepared the wolves in advance. Even if Hunter was against this, she forced him to send Dana to that remote island.
There was no way Dana could survive a pack of hungry wolves.
