needed to know what was inside, but the weight of it was almost too much to hear.
Victor paused at the door, glancing back over his shoulder. “Oh, and Ares,” he said, voice thick
with an unspoken warning. “You should know this time, it’s not just about you.”
He left, the door closing behind him with a finality that sent a shiver down Ares‘ spine.
Ares stayed frozen, staring at the envelope. And then, without thinking, he reached for it.
The seal cracked open with a soft sound as if the letter itself was exhaling after a long silence.
Inside, there was a single page. It was crisp, freshly written.
The words were simple, but the message was clear:
“Selene she’s in more danger than you think.”
Ares‘ heart pounded in his chest as the room seemed to close in around him. The shadows on
the walls stretched, darker, more suffocating.
He glanced toward the hallway, his mind racing.
The threat within was closer than he ever imagined.
The silence that followed Victor’s departure was suffocating. Ares‘ hand trembled as he held the
letter in his grasp, the words blurring in his vision. He wasn’t sure if it was the tension or the
flood of memories that made his stomach twist, but he couldn’t look away.
He stood up, pushing the chair back with a growl of frustration. The envelope was still clutched
in his fist. He had to know what it meant. Who was threatening Selene? Why had Victor left it?
Slowly, he turned toward the door of the study, where the nurse Selene stood just beyond the
threshold. She had always been there, lurking in the corners of his life, like a shadow he could
never shake,
Her eyes met his. Calm, unreadable.
Without thinking, Ares strode toward her. The anger inside him, the confusion, it all exploded in

⚫ bure of action He needed anceers. He needed to confront her
“Who are you?” he demanded, his voice shaking with a mixture of rage and fear.
She didn’t flinch, didn’t move, just stood there in her usual silence, her hands folded in front of
her. But Ares saw the slight tremor in her fingers, the way her breath quickened. For the first
time, she wasn’t the steady presence he had come to rely on. She was something else.
“Answer me,” he pressed, stepping closer. “What is this? What are you hiding?”
She took a step back, but he was too quick. Grabbing her wrist, he spun her around to face him,
his grip tight, his mind spinning with the unanswered questions.
“I don’t know who you are anymore,” he whispered, his chest tightening. “But you know me. You
know everything about me.”
Her eyes flickered briefly, the mask she had built over the years cracking, just slightly. For the
the first time, Ares saw vulnerability in her gaze.
“Are you Selene?” he asked again, this time, softer.
Her breath hitched. Her hands trembled slightly.
For a brief moment, it seemed as though she would answer him. But then, with a sharp
movement, she pulled her wrist from his grasp and stepped away.
“You don’t get to control this,” she said, her voice low and filled with an unspoken warning. “Not
anymore.”
Ares watched her, his heart pounding in his chest. And then, she turned and walked away,
leaving him standing there, frozen.
He glanced down at the letter in his hand. It was still there, the words haunting him.
But something had changed. He knew she had just given him the truth.
She wasn’t just his nurse. She was someone much more.
The question now was whether he could handle the truth.

Chapter 24
As the door to the study clicked shut behind her, he turned toward the bed and saw something lying on his pillow a small envelope, sealed with a familiar crest.
His breath caught in his throat.
He opened it slowly. Inside was just a single line of text.
“You’re not the only one with secrets.”
Ares‘ mind raced, the room spinning around him. He was trapped in a game he didn’t
understand.
And it was only just beginning.
