Chapter 4
“Who dares! An old, stern voice sounded.
Everyone in the Rasmussen family hurriedly stood up and respectfully said, “Mom.”
Мети
Bethany entered in a traditional dress, walking steadily with Evander Rasmussen at her side.
She glanced at everyone. Then she looked at Melanie and reached out her hand, trembling, “Mel.”
“Grandma, Melanie held Bethany’s hand and spoke politely.
His attitude toward the Rasmussen family moments ago was completely different.
Melanie always knew right from wrong.
Bethany was one of the only two people in the Rasmussen family who were nice to her.
She was raised by Bethany since she was little, and she was the closest to Bethany.
As for the other one…
Melanie set her eyes on Evander, her third brother.
When they were kids, he was pretty nice to her. She didn’t know if it was still the same now.
“Mel, do you still remember me?” Evander stepped forward with a smile.
Melanie smiled, “Evander.”
Evander smirked, “My own sister really is different. Guess all that spoiling paid off.”
He pulled out a jewelry box and handed it to her. “Here’s a gift. Don’t turn it down. I only had 16 thousand dollars and kept 1,600 dollars
for myself and spent the rest on this necklace. When I make more, I’ll get you something better.”
Then he glanced at the necklace in Estelle’s hand.“Oh, I forgot Estelle got you one too. I heard it was designed by Master Lily, right? I guess mine doesn’t compare.”
Estelle’s face turned paler. She bit her lip, looking like she was about to cry.“Evander, my friend was tricked. This necklace wasn’t designed by Master Lily.”
“Really?” Evander feigned surprise.“Oh my gosh. Did you buy it for ten dollars at a street stall? Estelle, that’s not cool. You took Melanie’s place for years, and now you give her a cheap knockoff? That’s too much.”
Estelle stomped her foot angrily.“This wasn’t ten dollars.”
It was fifteen dollars!
“No? Evander pulled out his phone and showed a photo.“Then isn’t this you?”
Estelle looked over and just felt the blood rush to her head. She almost passed out.
It was a photo of her picking out necklaces at a street stall.
Was Evander insane?
Why was he keeping an eye on her like that?

And when exactly was that photo taken?
She actually didn’t notice at all.
Estelle looked flustered and turned to Winona with teary eyes. “Mom, it’s not what it looks like. I was just helping a little girl pick a necklace. It was a misunderstanding.”
Winona patted her hand gently.“I know.”

Then she whispered to Evander, “What’s wrong with you, Evander? It was just a misunderstanding. Besides, Melanie grew up in a small town. Even if you gave her a real necklace, could she even pull it off?”
Evander gave her a sideways glance and then turned to Melanie. “Come here. Let me put this on you. Let’s show Mom what a real rich girl looks like.”
Before Melanie could say yes, Evander just put the necklace on her.
The leather outfit didn’t exactly match, but Melanie looked stunning no matter what she wore. The necklace instantly elevated her
presence.
Evander’s move was a direct slap in the face to Winona and Estelle.
Simon frowned, “Evander, that’s enough. Esty made a mistake, but she’s still our sister. Don’t humiliate her like this.”
“My only sister is Melanie. I never accepted this fake,” Evander said coldly.“And Mom, you said they were switched at birth. But why does Melanie remember everything about growing up with me, while Estelle remembers nothing?”
Winona’s face turned pale. She couldn’t find her tongue.
“Only you know what really happened back then. If you want to treat a fake like a treasure, fine. But if you drove away Melanie for her, don’t blame me for losing it.”
Winona was furious. She had three sons and one daughter. Simon and Ethan Rasmussen obeyed her, but Evander was a constant headache.
If he weren’t so clever, she would’ve abandoned him like she did Melanie.
Just because she didn’t abandon Evander back then, there was another useless person in the house.
All he did was hang out with rich kids and waste time.
And now, he was openly defying her for Melanie.
Bethany looked at Winona with a cold expression. She didn’t bother to waste her breath with Winona. “I went through hell to bring Mel back. If anyone dares to throw her out, they can leave this house immediately.”
“Bethany, Melanie is just a…”
Bethany cut her off and turned to Estelle.“There are things I won’t say out loud. If you want to stay in this family, don’t cause trouble. No one can replace Mel.”
“Grandma, I never meant to take her place,” Estelle said, eyes red.“The necklace was a misunderstanding. I’ll get her a better one. I just want us to get along.”
Just then, a servant approached.“Madam, someone claiming to be Master Lily’s lawyer just delivered a letter. He said Ms. Rasmussen…”
The servant looked up and met Bethany’s unfriendly gaze. Then she quickly corrected herself, “He asked Ms. Estelle to pay 830

thousand dollars in damages for Master Lily’s reputation within an hour and let Ms. Melanie keep it, or he would sue Ms. Estelle.”
Estelle’s expression suddenly changed.
She thought, ‘Didn’t she say two hours?
“How did the lawyer get here so fast?
“It has only been less than half an hour!
“Where am I supposed to collect 830 thousand dollars now?”
She turned to Winona for help.“Mom…”
Winona looked furious. She turned to Melanie and snapped, “You just got back and already caused this mess. Go tell Master Lily to drop
it now.”
Melanie sneered, “You’ve got some nerve.”
Winona really blew her top.“I’m your mom! Go talk to Master Lily right now!”
A loud bang was heard.
Melanie kicked over the marble coffee table beside Winona. Her voice was ice–cold.“Is that clear enough?”
Everyone was shocked by her sudden outburst.
Winona’s face turned livid.“Melanie! What’s wrong with you? This isn’t a nightclub. It’s the Rasmussen villa. You can’t behave like
this!”
Melanie stepped closer, grabbed Estelle by the hair, and said, “So I’m not allowed to go wild now?”
Melanie’s grip was firm, and Estelle screamed instantly.
