Chapter 7
Warren’s sudden move left everyone stunned.
All eyes turned to him and Melanie in shock.
He placed a firm hand on her shoulder, jaw clenched.“I need an explanation.”
Melanie rubbed her forehead, speechless.“You really don’t know?”
“I don’t know!” Warren’s grip tightened, his voice rising.“When I wake up, it’s suddenly all over. You broke up with me for no reason. Did you even think about how I’d feel?”
His eyes were bloodshot, filled with hurt and confusion.
The Fulton family watched in disbelief.
Was this really happening?
Were they seeing things?
Or were they hallucinating?
This was their perfect son? Their pride and joy?
The cold, ruthless Warren was now looking at a girl like a wounded puppy. It seemed that he was begging for comfort.
What on earth was going on?
“For no reason?” Melanie repeated slowly, her tone sharp.
“Then tell me. What did I do wrong?” Warren’s voice trembled.“Why did you dump me? Did I forget to cook for you? Miss a date? Not serve you well enough?”
He sighed, “You’re not breaking up with me just because I won’t watch horror movies with you, right? If that’s it, I’ll change. I’ll get dozens of horror movies and watch them all today, okay?”
Who could’ve seen this coming?
He woke up to a breakup text.
There was no explanation, no warning.
He tried calling and texting. Yet, he got nothing. She was gone. Not even at Ruby’s place.
He heard she’d gone back to Ruby’s place. So he rushed over, only to find it empty. Even Ruby was missing.
Only the herbs she loved remained.
Everything was gone.
He used
every
connection to track her down and finally found her in Atlanta. But when he texted, she blocked him.
He immediately located Melanie’s address and came straight here.
To find her, he hadn’t eaten or slept since yesterday.
He was both angry and helpless.

Melanie held her forehead, exasperated.
What was he even saying?
Wasn’t it obvious? His admirer was on stage, looking at him with teary eyes.
Did he really not know?

“Melanie,” Warren said, “you slept with me. You said you’d be with me forever. You can’t just dump me.” Warren acted like he would never part with Melanie.
Melanie frowned, out of patience.
Then she kicked him away.“Playing dumb? You cheated and think you’re innocent? I didn’t chop you up only because you cooked for me and Ruby. Now get lost.”
“Melanie!” Warren snapped.“Explain! When did I cheat? I was with you all day long. When would I even have time to cheat?”
Melanie leaned back, arms crossed, glancing at the stage.“Your admirer is waiting, Mr. Fulton. Aren’t you going to greet your fiancée?”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Warren looked over and saw only his grandparents and his parents.
Surprise flashed in his eyes.“Grandpa? Grandma? Mom? Dad?”
Nikolas and Araceli were left speechless.
So were his parents.
Wasn’t it?
What was that look on his face?
Shocked?
Stunned?
Didn’t he see them when he entered just now?
Warren was stunned.
He really didn’t notice.
He drove over last night without sleeping or eating, with Melanie on his mind the whole time.
So as soon as he walked in, he scanned the room and went straight to her.
He didn’t even hear Araceli talking to him.
Everyone slowly processed what had just happened.
They were still nothing but shocked.
They just heard something huge.
Warren slept with Melanie.
What was worse, he got dumped.
Because he cheated?

But he claimed he was innocent.
He was with Melanie all day long. There was no time to cheat.
No way!
What a perfect boyfriend!
What a dreamboat!
He was good–looking, rich, and always available?
Who wouldn’t want that?
And she dumped him?
On stage, Estelle’s face turned livid.
She schemed so hard for this engagement, and now?
Warren was Melanie’s ex?
He was dumped by her?
The man she tried so hard to cling to was someone Melanie didn’t even want?
Why did Melanie deserve him?
Estelle took a few deep breaths, trying hard to calm her anger. She reminded herself to be generous.
What Melanie didn’t want was a treasure to her.
As long as she could marry Warren, who cared whose ex–boyfriend he was?
She only wanted Warren.

Estelle let out a heavy sigh and walked over to Warren with a smile.“Warren, you finally came. The ceremony was about to start. It wouldn’t be good to delay it.”
With that, she glanced at Melanie.“Melanie really hoped we could get married. She gave me her blessing yesterday, right? Melanie?”
Before Melanie could say anything, Warren put his hands in his pockets, his brows tightly knitted together. “Who are you?”
Estelle kept a polite smile.“I am…”
“Get lost!” Warren darkened his face, showing no mercy at all.“You disgusted me.”
With that, he immediately looked at Melanie.
Melanie frowned. Warren held her down.“Don’t move. I’ll wash my eyes.”
Estelle was lost for words.
Melanie was kind of speechless.
Was that necessary?
Everyone present thought Warren really did have a bad temper.
Only Melanie could keep him in check.

Estelle bit her lip, on the verge of crying. “Warren, how could you say that? Your grandma chose me to be your fiancée.”
She was the school belle of North Atlanta High School.
And he called her ugly?
“Fiancée?” Warren frowned.“You? Do you think you
deserve that?”

The elders of the Fulton family and Bethany finally caught on.
Araceli walked over and smaXXed his back.“Brat! Is that how you talk? Esty is a girl. You should respect her.”
“Explain,” Warren said, pulling up a chair.“When did I get a fiancée?” He crossed his legs and leaned back on his chair.
His tone was lazy, but those who knew him recognized the warning signs.
His girlfriend dumped him for no reason.
There was even a fiancée.
No wonder Melanie broke up with him. It was actually because of this woman.
“This engagement was arranged by me and Madam Rasmussen. Estelle…”
Araceli was just about to explain, but Warren cut her off.“Break off the engagement!”
Estelle’s face suddenly turned pale.
Winona panicked.“We can’t! All the relatives are here. If we cancel, Esty will be a laughingstock!”
Araceli knew Warren very well. She glanced at Melanie, half–smiling.“Actually, your real fiancée was supposed to be Melanie. Since you two are dating, we can switch it back. You should marry someone you want, right? Since you want to break it off, then fine. Let’s
break it off.”
