Chapter 19 Running Into Them at Obstetrics
Kael stepped into the elevator. Whether he’d heard Sam or not, he shot him a cold glare.[]
“Don’t mention her to me again!“[]
Sam fell silent awkwardly and left.[]
Kael went downstairs to buy chicken noodle soup, then took it up to Nova and Donny.[]
Once, Nova had loved it–she’d always eat it with a smile. But now, she didn’t even glance at the food, focusing on her own things. Her tone was cold and distant.]
“Just put it there. I’m not hungry yet. It’s getting late, no extra bed here–you should go home first.“[]
Kael knew she was angry. He humbled himself to soothe her.[]
“Let it cool a bit, then eat. Your stomach’s bad–you need something. Don’t worry about Mabel. The specialist said she’ll wake up by tomorrow at the latest…]
Td hate to see you wear yourself out before she wakes. I’d be heartbroken.[]
“Leave the food for later. I’ll check on Mabel.“[]
After speaking, he slipped out quietly. Knowing she disliked bright lights, he switched the room to warm lighting before closing the door.
Nova closed her eyes, exhausted.]
Just then, messages popped up in her relatives‘ group chat.[]
[Nova, we said thoughtless things today. I apologize–don’t be mad.][]
[Sorry, Nova. We listened to rumors and hurt you.]]
Nova blinked. She didn’t need to guess–Kael must have scolded those relatives.[]
There was also the nurses and bodyguards removed from the VIP ward, and him spending a fortune to charter a private jet for specialists to consult on Mabel’s case…..[]
“Nova.” Donny pushed the door open. He saw the food on the table and sighed softly.[]
“Kael’s been busy with your grandma’s case all night–he hasn’t eaten either. Can you take him some food? Hmm?]
“He explained to the relatives too. Someone stirred up those rumors. Don’t take it hard–you still have to live.“/
Nova said nothing. She knew her father was trying to help.]
“Okay, I’ll go check on him.” Mabel was already in the hospital–she didn’t want her father worrying about their marriage too. “You rest a bit. I’ll find Kael.“[]
“Good. Talk it out. Couples shouldn’t let grievances linger overnight.“[]
Nova forced a faint smile, grabbed a food container, and went out.[ 0
That night, the hallway was so quiet the only sound was the medical equipment humming.
“Walt there for me–Ill be right down…
“Be good
Karl’s vote, strained to stay low, still carried clearly in the empty hallway

Chapter 19 Running Into Them at Obstetrics
Kael panicked, immediately letting go of Sloane and walking over to Nova, forcing a smile.]]
“Nova, don’t misunderstand. I just happened to run into her…“[]
Nova dug her nails into her palm, staring at Sloane’s stomach. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if her eyes or heart ached more.[]
The food container in her hand felt bitterly ironic.[]
Her husband was fooling around with his mistress–they were even having an illegitimate child–and she and her father had worried he’d go hungry after a long night?]
How ridiculous
On the side. Sloane looked disappointed when Kael left her. But when she saw Nova’s defeated look, she perked up:
She deliberately touched her stomach to provoke, speaking softly, “Ms. Hale, you’re misunderstanding. Mr. Voss went downstairs to buy something and ran into me–he just helped a little. Don’t let this come between you two.”
Kael shot Sloane an appreciative look, then put his arm around Nova’s shoulders.]
“I went downstairs for cigarettes. Ran into her on the way back. It’s late–let’s go up.“[]
Nova didn’t respond. She looked pale as she asked Sloane, “Sounds like you have good news?“]]
Sloane raised an eyebrow. “Don’t joke with me. I’m not pregnant–just unwell. But my man has a strong… appetite. It’s only a matter of time. We are looking forward, Don’t worry, I won’t mess up our collaboration.“[]
She didn’t hold back, mocking Nova openly.[]
Kael’s face darkened instantly.[]
Nova felt her blood run cold–but she forced a smile. “Oh? Then who’s the baby’s father? Bring him over sometime–I’d like to meet him…”
Sloane smiled. “Sure! He’s quite like Mr. Voss–gentle, thoughtful. Takes care of me and cares about my family. Drops work to celebrate my birthday. Even prepares gifts a year in advance!“]
Every word was a sharp knife, tearing Nova’s heart to shreds. She smiled bitterly, eyes wide to hold back tears.
“Is that so…”
“Mhm.” Sloane grinned brightly.
Kael’s face was dark enough to storm. He grabbed Nova’s hand, glared at Sloane, voice cold enough to freeze.]]
“We don’t have time for you, Ms. Reed. Know your place.“[]
The last sentence was a clear warning.
Sloane froze, biting her lower lip, eyes glistening with tears.
“You’re right–Mr. Voss, you’re busy with work and spend all your free time with Ms. Hale. I said the wrong thing…“]
Nothing tugs at a man’s sympathy quite like a look of grievance.[]
Especially when Kael saw her tears–his heart gave a sharp twinge.[]
Nove looked up with difficulty, watching her husband’s face soften with pity.[]
in that moment, she felt like a clown.
Sloane played wronged, and he felt sorry? What about her family’s suffering today? Had it meant nothing?]
A man’s attitude said it all []
Nova sruled sadly, about to say she’d go first–when Kael’s arm suddenly dropped onto her shoulder. He held her close, speaking coldly to Sloane []
“Good you know you were wrong. Don’t let it happen again []
Novas words died in her throat. She heard bir murmur in her ear, “You’ve had a long night. Don’t let her ruin your mood. I’ll take you up to rest.“[]
His eyes were full of concern different from how he’d snapped at Sloane, but to Nova, it was absurd.]
Chapter 19 Running Into Them at Obstetrics
Kael, how are you such a good actor?
Her eyes reddened again and again, her heart feeling like it was rotting. The questions she wanted to ask died on her lips, bitter and unspoken.]
Kael shot Sloane another sharp glare–warning her not to speak again–then put his arm around Nova and left, rambling to explain what had just happened.[]
Sloane hadn’t expected him to be so mocking, so cold. Her eyes reddened with a look of grievance.]
She tightened her hand on her stomach. Her flawless makeup couldn’t hide her pale face.[]
A call came in, and a man’s teasing voice sounded. “I sent the photos to your phone…“]]
“Good, thanks”
Sloane narrowed her eyes at the two figures ahead, answered coldly, then walked away.
She’d see how much longer Nova could hold on.[]
Kael followed Nova, and after a moment, noticed the thermal container in her hand.[]
She’d come out to find him, to bring him food. She’d been worried about him. But he’d gone to Sloane.[]
Guilt twisted in his chest. He hurried after her, hugging her from behind gently.[]
“Nova, don’t give me the cold shoulder… Talk to me, please?”
Once, his gentle voice and warm embrace had made her feel safe. Now, they only made her sick.[]
Nova pushed him away expressionlessly, slamming the food container onto the table. She couldn’t stand being in the same room as him anymore.[]}
“I’m going to check on Grandma…“[
Her cold tone made Kael feel worse. He took a deep breath, reaching out to stop her.[]
“It’s late. Go rest–I’ll go instead. Sleep early.“[]
He touched her cheek, then left.[]
Finally, the room fell quiet.]
Nova’s composure crumbled. She stumbled into the bathroom, turning on the faucet to splash water on her face–on any part of her he’d touched.[]
Twenty minutes later, she walked out, face pale.[]
She stood by the window, closing her eyes in sorrow.[]
Suddenly, she thought of that man–the one who’d helped her twice.[]
she didn’t even know his full name or contact info.
After a moment’s thought, she pulled out her phone and sent a message: [Help me look up someone.]]]
For decency’s sake, she had to meet him once.[]
