Chapter 6
I didn’t quite remember much about how the party proceeded after that.
I just recalled many guests coming to comfort me, praising me for being understanding and
strong.
Martin and Carol stayed by my side the entire time, holding my hand tightly.
Ethan tried several times to talk to me, but I avoided him.
It wasn’t that I hadn’t forgiven him, but my heart felt heavy and I needed time to process everything.
After the party, Ethan finally caught me at my bedroom door.
“Amelia.”
His face was full of regret and guilt.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have doubted you. I shouldn’t have let her bully you over and over.”
I looked at the brother who had always protected me and cared for me since childhood. I felt a pang in my chest, hard to put into words.
“Ethan,” I said softly, “I’m not angry that you’re dating someone.‘
“I’m just sad… why did you have to fall for someone like her?”
“Why do you believe everything she says, but whenever I speak, you always think I’m just throwing a tantrum?”
Ethan ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
“I’m such an idiot! I was blinded by her! I only saw her weak, pitiful side and didn’t realize how
devious she was.”
“Amelia, please give me another chance. I promise I’ll believe you from now on. I’ll protect you and never let anyone bully you again!”
Seeing his eager expression, I sighed.

“Ethan, I want you to be happy.”
“But next time you find a girlfriend, please open your eyes.”
I paused for a moment, then added, “And I really do think of you as my real brother.”
Ethan nodded earnestly. “I know, I’ve always known! I was the one who was foolish!”
After this, Ethan went through a period of gloom, but he quickly bounced back, throwing himself
into his work.
Our home returned to its usual peace, and it even felt warmer than before.
Martin and Carol seemed to feel guilty toward me, and they treated me even better.
I heard that Violet later tried to reconcile with Ethan, even going so far as to threaten suicide.
But Ethan remained firm and never paid her any attention again.
As for the rumors that I was the “child bride,” they quickly faded away with Violet’s disappearance.
Occasionally, when someone mentioned it, it would only turn into a mocking conversation about Violet’s malicious intentions.
The weekend came, and the sun was shining brightly.
I curled up on the living room sofa, reading a book. Ethan stubbornly squeezed next to me, insisting on peeling fruit for me.
“Hey, I can do it myself!” I protested.
“Nope, I have to make up for my wrongs!” he said, not backing down.
Carol came over with some coffee. Watching us playfully bicker, she shook her head with a smile.
“You’re both grown adults, yet still act like children.”
Ethan and I exchanged a smile.
Sunlight streamed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, warm and cozy.
Where was the tragic “child bride” drama?

It was all just a ridiculous farce, created and directed by someone with a twisted mind.
Now, the farce had ended.
My home was still my home.
I was Amelia Collins, the rightful daughter of the Collins family, loved and cherished.
And that was enough.
