Emily wrapped the medicine in a tissue before speaking, “I’m not totally sure. We need to run more tests.”
She handed over the wrapped medicine, clearly indicating she wasn’t planning to get involved any further. After all, her job was just to detoxify. Emily would only step in if it affected her detox process.
Daniel gave Charles a look, “Get someone to test this.”

Charles took the pill with a serious expression. “You still have time to decide about the herbs. Once you’ve made up your mind, you can contact me. Until you gather all the herbs, I’ll treat you every two weeks.”
Emily continued writing the prescription and giving medical advice. This time, Charles accepted the prescription with much more sincerity.
Despite his weakness, Daniel’s refined appearance remained undiminished, adding a touch of sickly beauty. He graciously said, “Thanks!”
Because of this, Emily, who was already heading out, couldn’t help but turn back and add, “The person who poisoned you is a woman. The woody scent on you is likely due to long–term medication, but now there’s a hint of perfume mixed in. This combination will make your body weaker and create a psychological dependency on the person who poisoned you.”
‘Or worse, you may believe that you have fallen for the woman.‘
She didn’t say the last part, but if Daniel followed this lead, he would likely find out soon. She was helping him because he owed her a favor, not because he was good–looking, but because he could make James wary.
After Emily left, Charles quickly received a report from the men tracking her.
“Who is this woman? She managed to shake off my trackers. How does she have such keen awareness? The people I sent are all retired special forces.”
Charles frowned, feeling uneasy. Daniel’s gaze was calm as he said, “Don’t investigate further. Be careful not to backfire.”
He didn’t mention that he already knew her identity. She wanted to hide her medical skills for a reason. But how did she acquire such skills? Could it be that prolonged illness made her a good doctor?
Emily didn’t know that Daniel still mistook her for the sickly Bianca,
Fifty million dollars were quickly transferred to her account. Emily decided to look at houses tomorrow. Tonight, she returned to the old street, to the house filled with beautiful memories.
She went back to the house she had bought, first washing up to get rid of the sickly smell. She noticed several missed calls from real estate agents on her phone, including Will, the agent who helped her buy the house.
“Will, what’s so urgent?” Emily frowned but answered the call.
“Emily, a big buyer wants to buy the house you bought from me last time. The price is double what you paid. I wanted to ask if you’d consider selling.”
Will knew Emily didn’t have much savings when she bought the house, so he thought she might consider selling now that its value had

increased so much.

“Thanks, Will, but please tell the buyer I’m not selling.”
Emily replied without hesitation. She didn’t consider selling when she was short on money, and now that she had some, she certainly wouldn’t part with it.
Emily thought her refusal would end the matter, but soon Will called again, saying the buyer had tripled the offer and added, “The buyer said the house holds many memories for him, so he must buy it. He asked you to name your price.”
Emily tightened her grip on the phone, suspecting it might be James. She wondered if he knew the house was now hers. But Emily’s attitude remained firm. The buyer might think she was playing hard to get, but there was no follow–up.
Emily assumed James had given up. She planned to rest early, but the house’s old wiring caught fire. She almost burned to death before she noticed.
It felt like a sign, a sign to let go of the past completely. As she escaped the flames, disheveled and covered in soot, she ran into James.
He grabbed her, “Did you start the fire?” James’s first reaction wasn’t concern but suspicion.
Emily was momentarily stunned, even touched. She thought maybe he really couldn’t let go, that he remembered their shared hardships. But hearing his words, she felt self–mockery. How could she still have hope for a man like him?
Emily shook off James’s grip. “Mr. Smith, have you lost your basic judgment since returning to the Smith Villa? Why would I start a fire? What good would it do me? If you suspect me, call the police and let them investigate.”
She turned to leave. James tried to grab her wrist again, but Emily evaded him, coldly asking, “What do you want?”
“If you didn’t start the fire, why are you here? Reliving the past?”
James’s eyes held a mocking smile, feeling both triumphant and sarcastic. He thought her talk of breaking off the engagement was just a ploy to make him compromise.
“Even if I was, I don’t need to anymore. God is reminding me not to live in the past, so the fire burned it all clean.”
Emily looked at the raging flames, her gaze distant and gradually calm. James felt a moment of panic, as if something was slipping away, something he couldn’t grasp. But then he thought she was just pretending, using it as a tactic to make him compromise.
His eyes turned cold as he brought up old grievances, “Fine, let’s not talk about the past, Let’s talk about the spot you promised Bianca. Why did you go back on your word and give it to Sophia, who has always targeted her? Is this your way of forcing me?”
Emily looked at James’s rant with indifference, then turned to leave. Ignored, James’s face grew darker, especially with the crowd watching the fire. He pulled Emily aside, demanding, “Emily, how long are you going to keep this up? And did Mr. Williams really stop me from continuing my studies? Was it your doing?”
Emily finally looked at James, then mocked, “It seems Bianca is really important to you. You care more about her than yourself.”
“So it was you! How dare you? You know it’s my grandmother’s dying wish…”
“Yes, I know! But do you remember? As for why I did it, it’s because that spot was something I begged for you!”
