Kayla thought, ‘Never.‘ But she hadn’t expected Davon to lie in front of so many people.
Then, she realized it wasn’t entirely impossible. After all, Davon had always been seen as the perfect, rich, handsome, and intelligent guy at school–well–off, powerful, and surrounded by admirers. Many of his followers thought he was some wealthy heir.
Kayla had always been crazy about him, and if Davon ever wanted anything, she wouldn’t hesitate to buy it for him.
Even if he asked for money, Kayla had always given him her allowance without a second thought, which was why his image at school remained untarnished.
No one would have suspected that Davon was actually an illegitimate child, and worse, that his biological father was a gold–digger.
Kayla thought, ‘Since Davon wants to maintain his reputation and image at school, I’ll make sure not to hold back.’
“Mr. Ortiz, since you say it’s a loan…” Kayla suddenly took out her phone, opened up her transaction history, and started reading it aloud, one by one.
She spoke, “This month, you’ve already borrowed from me three times, thirty thousand dollars each time, totaling ninety thousand. Last month, you borrowed five times, adding up to two hundred and ten thousand dollars. Not to mention the money you borrowed the month before that.”
As Kayla rattled off each transaction, Davon’s expression grew grimmer. The students around them became even more shocked.
Someone whispered, “Oh my goodness, how much has Davon borrowed from Kayla? He’s borrowing so much every month?”
Another voice exclaimed, “That’s not borrowing. It’s like he’s using Kayla as an ATM.”
Someone else commented, “Isn’t Davon’s family supposed to be rich? How could he borrow so much money from Kayla? His ‘rich kid‘ image can’t be real, right?”
As Davon listened to the murmurs around him, his pride took a heavy blow. His hands clenched into fists by his sides.
With gritted teeth, Davon snarled, “Enough. Kayla, is this really necessary? So I borrowed a little money from you. It’s not like I won’t pay you back. Why do you have to be so aggressive about it?”
Kayla had been waiting for him to say this. She gave a mocking smile. “Paying back what you owe is the right thing to do. How is that being aggressive? But since you have mentioned paying me back, let’s set a time today.
“I just checked. You’ve borrowed 1.5 million dollars from me just this year. While I’m not exactly struggling for money, I’m also not just going to let it slide. Otherwise, you’ll earn the reputation of a deadbeat.”

Over the years, Davon had owed Kayla far more than just that amount. Nearly all of her allowance had gone to him, and even his mother’s expenses had been covered by the Sexton family’s money.
However, Kayla also knew that it was unrealistic to expect Davon to pay back everything at once. But 1.5 million dollars was within his reach–though it would definitely hurt him financially.
Since Davon cared so much about his image as a wealthy heir, Kayla could easily use this against him to recover at least some of her losses. The thought of all that money wasted on such an ungrateful jerk made her sick with resentment.
Davon’s eyes widened in disbelief. Shocked, he shot back, “How could it possibly be that much? Kayla, have you lost your mind wanting so much money?”
Kayla gave a cold snort, then handed him her phone with the transfer records displayed. “Mr. Ortiz, it seems you have a selective memory. But it’s all right here in black and white.
“You’re not actually thinking of welching on this debt, are you? In fact, the 1.5 million dollars I just mentioned is actually an understatement.”
Kayla pulled the phone back and took a long look at Davon, scanning him from head to toe. “Did you forget that every time you treated your friends at school to meals, I was the one paying?
“And look at you–I’m the one who paid for everything you wear. I haven’t even bothered to count those costs, considering we’ve been friends for so many years. And yet you still have the nerve to question me.”
Kayla watched as Davon’s expression grew gloomier, and her mood lifted just a little more.
She continued, “If you really want to try and get away with this, I don’t mind posting these transaction details and spending records on the campus forum so that everyone can help me figure out just how much you owe
me.”
Davon stared at Kayla for a long time, utterly confused by her sudden outburst. He couldn’t understand why she was making such a scene, publicly humiliating him like this.
But then, Davon realized that if Kayla really did post the records on the forum, it would ruin his reputation.
Davon thought, ‘It must be because I’ve been ignoring Kayla lately. She’s throwing this tantrum to get my attention, to make me comfort her. It’s just a childish game.
‘Fine. I’ll calm her down for now and talk to her nicely after school. What’s the big deal with the money? Does she really think I’m going to pay her back?‘
With that in mind, Davon suppressed his rising anger, forced a smile, and said in an overly casual tone, “Fine, I’m not worried about the money. I’ll pay you back tomorrow. 1.5 million dollars–so what?
“Even if it’s more than 300 thousand dollars more than I owe you, I’ll consider it interest. I’m not going to argue over it.”
Kayla didn’t call Davon out on his excuse. Instead, she responded, “Mr. Ortiz, you really are generous. With so many fellow students listening, don’t forget to pay me back tomorrow.

“If I don’t receive the money, I’ll have no choice but to post the transaction records and spending history to the campus forum. If it gets out that you’re refusing to pay your debts and you become a deadbeat, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Davon hadn’t expected that, even after he agreed to pay, Kayla would still dare to threaten him. He shakily pointed a finger at her, his anger boiling over. Gritting his teeth, he snarled, “Kayla, you’ve got guts.”
With those words, Davon deliberately shoved past her, brushing his shoulder against Kayla’s as he stormed off, his face twisted with rage.
Kayla’s gaze darkened as she watched him leave, her eyes full of cold, icy intent.
She thought, ‘Davon, this is just the beginning. The real show is yet to come. We’ll see how this plays out.’
Tania followed Kayla closely, cautiously reaching out to touch her forehead with a look of concern. “Kayla, are you feeling okay? That was Davon, you know.”
In the past, Kayla had always been completely devoted to Davon. Even a slight frown from him would worry Kayla endlessly. But today, she had publicly humiliated him. It just didn’t seem like something the Kayla Tania knew would do.
Kayla wasn’t surprised by Tania’s shock. After all, in Kayla’s old life, everyone knew how much she adored Davon. Tania, being Kayla’s only friend, knew just how much Kayla fawned over him. Kayla had always centered all her attention on Davon.
Kayla had let Davon ride to and from school with her every day. Even though she was terrible in the kitchen, she’d gone out of her way to learn how to bake, ignoring the blisters on her hands just to make him happy.
Whatever Davon asked, she did without question. Kayla had been like Davon’s lapdog, without a mind of her own, without any aspirations.
She’d spent every day thinking about how to make him comfortable and happy, hoping he would love her back. Her love for Davon and the way she pampered him was something everyone knew.
