While speaking, Kayla took another two steps forward, pressing her own chest against the tip of the scissors. Tristian panicked and stumbled back, barely keeping hold of the scissors. His grip slipped, and the scissors nearly clattered to the floor

Kayla gave a mocking chuckle, then calmly reached out and grabbed his trembling hand. What’s the matter, Tris? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t let me get away? Were you just talking big? Too scared to even hold the scissors now?”

She leaned in slightly, her smile twisting. This is what you meant?”

Before Tristian could react, Kayka guided his hand forwardjust enough for the blades to pierce into the flesh beneath her collarbone. The scissors sank in with a sickening resistance, and blood immediately blossomed through her shirt, soaking the fabric

Tristian’s face went pale in an instant. Panic clawed its way up his throat, and he tried to jerk his hand away, but Kayla held him fast. Her grip was unshakable, like iron shackles

His wide eyes met hers, and what he saw there chilled him to the bone. She wore a bright but wry smile

Kayla, wwhat the hell are you doing?he stammered, his voice cracking with fear

Kayla’s smile was innocent and even cheerful. She looked like a stunning flower, yet under the petals hid the most deadly thorns

Kayla smiled, I’m helping you, Tris. You said you wouldn’t let me get away, right? So I figured, why not make it easier for you?”

Before he could stop her, she grabbed his hand and shoved the scissors in a little deeper, inch by inch

Kayla’s smile never faltered. Instead, she widened her smile as blood trickled freely down her body. It seemed as if they were just playing, and the cut never existed

See, Tris? I’m really kind, right?Kayla said with a beam

Tristian tore his hand away and stumbled back like he’d been burned. He didn’t stop until his back was against the sofa behind him. His legs buckled, and he slid down into a heap, his eyes wild with disbelief

He shouted, You’re insane. You’re completely insane.”

His thoughts spiraled in panic. She really stabbed herself. With no hesitation. No fear. Who the hell does that? Who bleeds like that and still keeps smiling? She doesn’t even feel pain anymore. She’s a fullblown lunatic

But Kayla didn’t react to his shouting. She simply let out a scoff

She knew the pain was real, and it stung like hell. But compared to what she’d endured in her last life— betrayal, humiliation, utter ruin, and so onthis was just a piece of cake

Kayla slowly pulled the scissors from her shoulder with a gasp. The smile faded from her lips, replaced by

She said in a low voice, You’re right. I’m crazy. If you’re smart, stay the hell out of my way. Otherwise”

The scissors clicked open and shut in her hand with a rhythm, each motion catching the light. The silver glint danced across the walls like a warning

She added, Next time, Tris, I won’t be going for your hair.”

As she spoke, she let her eyes trail downward, right down to his crotch. A playful and meaningful scoff showed on her face

Tristian’s breath caught. Instinctively, he clamped his legs together, his hands reflexively guarding himself. His face turned even paler than before

Kayla, looking satisfied, gave him one last look. Then, she turned and walked away, blood still dripping from her shoulder. Each step up the stairs echoed in the house like a ticking clock, slow and steady

Every footfall hit like a drumbeat on Tristian’s shredded nerves. And all he could do was sit there, trembling, staring after her, too terrified to move

Back in her room, Kayla casually tossed her backpack onto the desk. She pulled out the firstaid kit and began tending to her wound. Her face was blank, her hands steady, like pain had long since become irrelevant

Once she was done, she climbed into bed and slowly curled up, her body folding in on itself like a wounded kitten trying to stay warm in a cold, empty world
