Chapter 51
Tania thought. What’s wrong with Marianna? Why can’t she understand a word I’m saying? She was so angry that she wanted to rush over and punch Marianna, but Kayla held her back.
Kayla took a step forward with a faint smile as she looked at Marianna. “You truly believe that I was humiliating Tania by paying her 650 dollars for helping with errands?”
Marianna nodded without hesitation. “Of course. We’re classmates, equals. If you really want to help her, just sponsor her directly. Why make her run errands? That’s undoubtedly humiliation.”
Kayla sneered, “So you’re saying if I just hand her the money with no strings attached, it wouldn’t be humiliation?”
Marianna nodded again. “Yes. You come from such an affluent family. Why can’t you just donate some money to help your classmate?”
Kayla mused. ‘How does Marianna have the nerve to say something so unreasonable?‘ The mockery and disdain in her eyes grew more obvious.
She fought back. “You think I’m bullying Tania by paying her for errands? Is giving money directly not insulting? Or do you believe getting something for nothing is more ‘honorable‘ than earning a reward with your own effort?
“Is there any difference between that and throwing money at a beggar?” Her voice was icy, yet her words cut like needles.
Marianna was so frightened that she took a step back, daring not to look Kayla in the eye while saying, “That’s not what I meant. I just… I just wanted you to help your classmates more!”
Kayla pressed forward with sharp eyes. “Help? Then tell me, how should I help? Or, since you care so much about her, why don’t you give her 650 dollars yourself? That way, I won’t have the chance to ‘humiliate‘ her anymore.”
Marianna’s face turned pale. She waved her hands subconsciously, refusing. “Why do I give her my money?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, everyone around them stared in shock.
Marianna’s cheeks flushed, and she hurried to explain, “I’m a low–income student myself! How could I afford to sponsor her? You’re making things hard for me!”
Kayla let out a laugh, her voice laced with sarcasm. “So, according to you, I’m supposed to sponsor her without a second thought, but if you do, it’s ‘making things hard for you? Marianna, you’ve mastered the art of double standards.
“Or is it that you get a kick out of spending other people’s money to play the generous one, even when you know you can’t afford such generosity on your own? Well, it’s rare to see someone so ‘upright, taking other people’s devotion for granted!”
As Kayla stepped toward Marianna, her aura was so imposing that Marianna stumbled back two more steps, shaking her head frantically. “No! I didn’t. That isn’t what I meant!”
Kayla gave her no chance to explain, pressing on. “Or maybe…”
She pulled out another thick wad of cash, easily 1,500 dollars, and waved it in front of Marianna. “I can skip Tania altogether. I’ll give you this money to buy me a chocolate bar. The change will be yours. Would you do it?”
Kayla knew that even though Marianna was now funded by Tristian, a man like Tristian was never considerate.
Marianna might have had nice food and clothes, but she didn’t have much pocket money, and 1,500 dollars was no trivial
amount to her.
