Chapter 52
“Marianna actually wants Kayla’s money? How hypocritical is she?”
Was she just faking it earlier? Did she not want Tania to make money so she could take it herself?”
As the murmurs grew louder, the looks thrown at Marianna turned from curiosity to contempt.

Marianna finally caught wind of the discussions. Her face flushed scarlet, and after a strained pause, she forced out, “You… you’re doing this on purpose! You’re trying to humiliate me!”
Kayla sneered, her mockery plain to see. “Humiliation? Fine, if you think it’s humiliating, then forget it.”
She’d already exposed Marianna’s true colors to everyone. She had no intention of actually giving her the money.
Marianna bit her lip, watching as Kayla slowly tucked the cash back into her bag. It was as if something that belonged to her was being taken away, and her eyes brimmed with unwillingness and jealousy.
Kayla noticed the shift in her expression and curled her lips into a mocking smile.
She then swept her gaze over the surrounding students, her voice clear and loud. “I’m looking for someone to run errands and buy snacks right now, and I’ll pay 650 dollars for it. Who’s interested?
“And naturally, if anyone sees this as a humiliation, feel free to ignore it.”
Almost as soon as Kayla finished speaking, a chorus of responses erupted from the crowd. Students shot their hands up high, terrified of missing this golden “money–making chance.”
“Kayla, look at me! I’ll do it!”
“Me too! 650 dollars is too much. Just give me 64 dollars, and I’m on it!”
“Pick me! Only a fool would call this ‘humiliation.‘ Kayla, I’m your person!”
“The delivery guy only makes a few bucks an order, but I can get 650 dollars for a supermarket run? This is my dream job!”
“I’m just planning to buy new sneakers, but I’ve used up all my living costs. An extra 650 dollars is exactly what I need!”
“Let me! Let me! I want it!”
“Kayla, feel free to ‘humiliate‘ me with your money however you want. I’ve got a thick skin, so it doesn’t bother me one bit!”
Anyway, no one would turn down extra cash.
Marianna’s eyes widened in disbelief at the scene. She shouted angrily, “How could you all do this? Kayla’s humiliating you! Can you really sell your dignity for just 650 dollars?”
But this time, her voice was drowned out by her classmates‘ mockery and retorts.
One mocked, “Marianna, have you lost your mind? 650 dollars is enough for me to buy a stack of tutoring books! How is this humiliation? It’s like a gift from heaven!”
“That’s right! You don’t want it, fine. But why stop the rest of us from making money? What’s your problem?”
“If you’re boring, go find something to do. You’d better not stick your nose in our business and ruin our chance! Do you know 650 dollars can cover our living expenses for months?”

Selling dignity? Seriously? This is a legal job offer. Mind your own business!”

You love meddling in others affairs, but why not fix your own? Aren’t you a low–income student too? You get funded and suddenly think you’re someone important? Just 650 dollars? Your tone sounds like you’re a billionaire. So high and mighty!”
Yeah, it’s like 650 dollars means nothing to you. I heard you applied for the poverty subsidy. Maybe you should turn that down too, in case you’re humiliated!”
“Exactly? Let’s report it to Ms. Nielsen now. The poverty subsidy is for people who need it. Marianna can’t have it. It’ll be humiliation to her, after all.”
Marianna’s face turned ashen as she listened to the chatter. When she saw several students actually heading for Ravenna’s office, her eyes welled up with tears. A wave of panic and rage rushed over her, leaving her completely at a loss.
