Kayla realized she’d been misunderstood again and hurried to explain, “Doctor, don’t get me wrong. I mean, it’s great that his mom can still be saved. And don’t worry about the fees. I’ll take care of it.”
As she spoke, she pulled a bank card from her bag and held it out to the doctor. “There’s 150,000 dollars on this card. It’s for her treatment. If it’s not enough, I’ll cover the rest later.”
The doctor stared at the card in shock, his eyes wide with disbelief. “Young lady, this is 150,000 dollars, not 15 dollars. Are you joking?”
Kayla sighed, a little helpless. “Doctor, I’m not kidding. I’ll take care of everything, I promise. I just need you to come with me to pay the fees later.”
The suspicion on the doctor’s face faded slowly, but he still asked uncertainly, “You’re serious? There’s really 150,000 dollars on it? That’s a large sum. Where did you get so much money? Do your parents know you’re spending so much?”
He still suspected the money might be from an improper source.
Kayla could only explain patiently, “Doctor, rest assured. This is my own pocket money. I can use it however I want. That’s for sure. It’s totally legitimate. Just…”
At that pause, the doctor leaned in slightly, asking instinctively, “Just what?”
Kayla smiled. “Please arrange the best medical team for Payton’s mom. Money really isn’t an issue. But… I need you to keep this confidential. I don’t want Payton to feel pressured or in debt because of this.”
The doctor studied Kayla intently, confirming there was no trace of jest in her expression–she was completely serious. Finally, he nodded solemnly, “Okay, I understand. I’ll arrange the top medical team for her treatment. You have my word.”
Kayla nodded in satisfaction and followed the doctor to settle the fees. After watching the doctor leave, she let out a long breath of relief.
She thought of this as repayment for Payton carrying her to the infirmary when she was hurt and covering her medical bills when her wound became infected and she ran a fever.
It was also for the debt she’d owed him in her previous life. With this, they might finally be even.
When Kayla got home, she was surprised to find her parents were there.
Usually at this time, Jackson would be on a business trip or Bailee would be busy with her own matters, leaving the house often empty.
But somehow, she felt there was something odd about Jackson’s stare, and from the side, Bailee was throwing her anxious
winks.
Even Tristian, who was usually nowhere to be seen, was sitting in the living room, dressed in a crisp suit, twirling a newly bought obsidian bracelet in his hand. A gloating smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Kayla had a bad feeling. Her intuition screamed that something was wrong.
But she didn’t panic. Instead, she walked over with a smile, as if she’d noticed nothing unusual, and said sweetly, “Dad, Mom, Tris, why are you all home today?”

Jackson’s face was stern, his brows furrowed. When he saw Kayla walk in, he snorted coldly, “Hmph, if I hadn’t come back home, I’d never have known you’ve been so ‘generous‘ at school.
“Paying someone 650 dollars just to run an errand? When did you get so wasteful? Do you really think our family has endless money? And you can squander it however you like?”
Kayla raised an eyebrow, thinking, ‘So that’s it. I know it.‘ she figured it out instantly.
The news had spread fast, reaching Jackson in no time. She didn’t even need to guess. Marianna must have gossiped to Tristian about it.
