Chapter 26 Another Twist–Kael Noticed the Clue!Â
Sam’s hand closed around the curtain. Any second, he’d pull it back.Â
Nova’s heart plummeted. “Kael-”Â
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming. Mr. Voss?” a voice cut in. “I would’ve prepared a proper welcome!”Â
Two voices overlapped.Â
A woman in a white suit walked in–elegant and dignified.Â
It was Grace.Â
Nova froze, panic growing. Women’s thoughts were unpredictable. She had no idea how Grace would react if she knew Corin was in this room.Â
Sloane, though, lit up. Everyone is here now–perfect.Â
Kael frowned, annoyed, but still polite. “Something urgent came up. I’ll treat you to dinner another day, Ms. Quinn!”Â
“Looking forward to it.” Grace raised an eyebrow, glancing around.Â
Her gaze landed on the belt in Sam’s hand. “Oh? Where did you find this? I thought it was lost. My boyfriend was asking about it–he really likes this one.”Â
Sloane and Nova froze.Â
“It’s your boyfriend’s?” Kael reacted slowly.Â
Grace smiled. “Who else’s? Did you think Ms. Hale was hiding it? Mr. Voss, don’t you trust her even this much? This afternoon, she was telling me she wanted to bring jasmine back to make you panna cotta.”Â
Kael’s face darkened, faint embarrassment creeping in.Â
He looked down at Nova.Â
She’d been thinking of him, while he’d been suspecting her.Â
Sloane sensed trouble and hurried to say, “Ms. Quinn, why isn’t Mr. Thorne with you?”Â
Nova frowned, staring at Sloane coldly.Â
Sloane sneered, “Mr. Thorne didn’t go back tonight either. Why hasn’t he shown up?”Â
The name “Mr. Thorne” snapped Kael back. Hmph–Corin hasn’t left, but doesn’t appear either. Where is he?Â
He glanced at Nova, a sarcastic smile tugging at his lips. “Where is Mr. Thorne?”Â
Nova’s heart rose to her throat as she held her breath.Â
Grace waved her phone, confused. “Wait, hasn’t he come? We agreed to talk about work tonight. Why’s he late?”Â
Nova reacted fast. “Mr. Thorne must’ve been held up.”Â
“What a busy man,” Grace muttered.Â
She called Corin on speakerphone–everyone heard his voice clearly. “Sorry, I had to leave for an emergency. My secretary will contact you about details.”Â
After hanging up, Grace apologized to Nova. “I’m so sorry, Ms. Hale. Wasted your time.”Â
Nova shook her head, heart calming. “It’s fine.”Â

Grace pouted, smiling meaningfully. “She’s married, you know. Don’t tell me you’ve got feelings you shouldn’t have?”Â
Corin shot her a cold glare–stern, intimidating.Â
Grace shut up awkwardly. What a man….Â
On the other side of the door. Corin looked out at the rain. He thought back to what had just happened, frowning slightly.Â
As soon as Nova got home, she went straight to the bedroom to wash up.Â
“Don’t follow me.” Her tone was cold.Â
Kael knew he was wrong, so he waited, heating milk in the kitchen while she showered.Â
He waited a little longer, then went upstairs.Â
“Nova. I was too hasty tonight. You know I’m possessive–I get jealous if any man’s close to you,” Kael said, voice hoarse and helpless. “I’ll change. I promise. Don’t ignore me…”Â
It was true.Â
When they were together, Kael had gotten jealous many times–once, even fought over it.Â
Back then, Nova had been angry and helpless. But now, his words didn’t move her. His love had turned sour.Â
She picked up the red pen, marking an X on the calendar without expression.Â
Only 19 days left. 19 days until the end.Â
She put down the pen, listening to the rain, and thought of Corin.Â
She’d been ready to face Kael head–on–but Corin had helped her.Â
She owed him another favor.Â
