Chapter 56 Twist–Kael Saw the Contract! Nova Panicked 

“Who dares touch her!” 

A cold, sharp voice cut through the tension. 

Nova froze, turning toward the door. 

Kael stood there, dressed in a black–and–white suit. His presence was overwhelming–powerful, intimidating. 

He shot a glare at the two servants, who immediately stepped back, their confidence vanishing. 

Nova looked at him, her eyes stinging with tears. 

Once, she would have run to him, pouring out her grievance. But now… 

She turned her head away, swallowing hard. She couldn’t let him see her cry. 

Kael’s hand froze mid–air. He’d reached out to comfort her, but she’d pulled away. Hurt flashed across his face–followed by a deep, gnawing pain. 

Daisy looked at Kael, her eyes filled with admiration. He was supposed to be her fiancé, arranged by their families. Nova had just gotten lucky. 

“Kael, you didn’t see what happened,” Daisy said, stepping forward. She put on an innocent expression, her voice trembling. “Ms. Hale was being so rude to Alison. She even called me a mistress! Who says things like that?” She wiped away a fake tear. 

Alison glared at Nova, shifting the responsibility to her son. “This is the wife you chose. Arrogant, disrespectful, and lacking manners. You deal with her. If you can’t even handle this, how can you run the company someday?” 

Her words were a threat–obey, or risk losing his position in the family business. 

Daisy smiled to herself. Power meant everything to a man like Kael. He had no choice but to give in. 

She couldn’t wait to see Nova being whipped–maybe then she’d learn her place. 

Kael’s face darkened. 

Nova bit her lip, a bitter laugh rising in her throat. Typical! 

Kael had always prioritized his career over her. When Josh had humiliated her, he’d ignored it to protect his business deal with the Cohen family. Why would his time be any different? 

Her face turned pale. She hated herself for even daring to hope. 

She took a deep breath, opening her mouth to speak–only to be cut off by Kael’s cold voice. 

‘I know my wife’s character better than anyone. If she talked back to you, you must have said something unforgivable first.” Kael’s eyes were like ice as he turned to Daisy. “Ms. Shelton, this is the Voss family’s business. It’s not your place to interfere.” 

In other words: Mind your own business, you busybody. 

Daisy’s face turned green. She wanted to argue, but Kael’s glare was too intense. She bit her lip, nearly drawing blood. 

“Kael!” Alison shouted. 

Kael ignored her and walked to Nova, his voice softening. “Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” 

Nova stared at him, stunned. She shook her head, then nodded–she couldn’t find the words to explain. 

Kael’s face hardened. He looked at Alison and Daisy, his aura so intimidating that the room felt colder.

What did you say? Altson couldn’t believe her ears Kael was making her apologize to Nova? In front of everyone? It was a public humiliation 

Daisy fel equally humiliated she’d lived a life of luxury–Nova wasn’t even worthy of tying her shoes. 

“Apologize, Kael repeated, his voice sharp. He wrapped his hand around Nova’s, his touch warm and reassuring. “It’s a family dinner. I don’t think anyone 

wants to ruin it. 

His eyes were locked on Alison–a clear threat. 

Alison’s breath caught. She knew what he meant–apologize, or the dinner would turn into a disaster. 

Rage boiled in her chest, but she had no choice. She was trapped. 

Is the dinner going to be delayed?” Kael asked, his tone casual but dangerous. 

Alison ground her teeth. She stared at Nova, her voice dripping with venom. “I’m sorry. I overreacted. Don’t take it to heart, Nova.” 

Daisy hesitated, then bowed her head, her voice barely audible. “I’m sorry, Ms. Hale. I overstepped. It won’t happen again.” 

Kael nodded, satisfied. He looked down at Nova, his cold eyes softening. “Feel better now?” 

Nova was still in shock. 

Kael had stood up for her before, but never like this–openly defying his mother, risking his relationship with the family, all to protect her. A small part of her felt a flicker of hope. 

But seeing Alison and Daisy’s bitter faces, she couldn’t deny the satisfaction. 

She nodded slightly. 

She looked up at Kael–his eyes were filled with love, just like they used to be. A wave of sadness hit her. 

Kael, why couldn’t you have been this way before? 

Kael didn’t notice her inner turmoil. He ruffled her hair gently. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here earlier. I should have come in with you.” 

Nova bit her lip, her throat tight with emotion. 

Just then, the butler walked in. “Madam, the food is ready. Shall we move to the dining room?” 

Alison forced a smile. “Yes, let’s go. Let’s forget about this little incident.” 

Kael nodded, leading Nova toward the dining room, “You mentioned wanting the chef’s homemade chicken and wild rice soup last time. I told him to make 

extra.” 

Nova’s heart ached. He remembered her favorite food, but he’d forgotten the most important thing. 

“Okay,” she whispered. 

Behind them, Daisy’s eyes turned red with jealousy. She’d never seen Kael so gentle, so caring. It wasn’t fair. 

“Alison, Kael and Nova seem really close,” she said, her voice sour. 

Alison sneered, “You don’t understand men. Besides, Nova won’t be around to enjoy his attention for much longer.” 

All men were the same. Sooner or later, they’d get bored. 

Daisy frowned, confused–but the longing in her heart was real. 

In the dining room, Kael pulled out a chair for Nova. His eyes drifted to a stack of papers on a table near the floor–to–ceiling window.

“What’s that?” he asked, frowning. Something about the papers felt off. 

Nova followed his gaze, then her blood ran cold. 

The blue folder–it was the contract she’d signed with Alison. A contract that included a $10 million settlement, a deal to leave Kael forever. Alison must have forgotten to put it away after reviewing it with her lawyer. 

Panic surged through her. If Kael saw that contract, everything would be ruined. 

“Kael!” she shouted, her face white, her heart racing. 

But it was already too late to stop him–he’d already strode forward, his broad back leaving no room for her to call him back.
