Charles heard Emily’s puzzled question. Feeling Daniel’s icy gaze, he realized he had probably said something wrong. He quickly shut up. 

Daniel’s fingers unconsciously rubbed together, but his face showed no guilt as he explained, I bought it. I had seen it as a stray before. When I saw it being sold by a dog dealer, I felt sorry for it and had my butler buy it.” 

Charles was speechless. Since when had Daniel become so compassionate? He didn’t believe it. But Emily bought his story. She nodded, Mr. Smith, you’re so kind–hearted.” 

Charles almost couldn’t hold back his laughter. Fortunately, Emily’s phone rang. It was Sofia calling. Emily had a bad feeling and quickly answered. 

“Hello…” 

There was no response from Sofia on the other end. But soon, there was a commotion. 

“Violette, hurry up, bring the money. What? Are you trying to run away and take my son and daughter with you?” 

“I’m telling you, either you bring the money today, or I’ll take my son away.” 

“Let go of my son, you bastard.” 

“What? After a few days out, you think you’ve found someone better and want to abandon me?” 

There were sounds of a struggle on the other end. It was Rhett and Violette’s voices. Mixed in were Atticus and Sofia, trying to protect 

Violette. 

Emily guessed that Violette had called Atticus and Sofia over, but somehow Rhett had found out and followed them. Seeing Violette living in a villa, he was forcing her to give him money. 

“…You slut, you found a man outside, and I didn’t care. Now I ask for money, and you dare disobey me? I’ll beat you to death!” 

“Dad, let go of Mom…” 

“Get lost. You dare block me? You slut, and you useless son. This is the kind of son and daughter you raised. Watch me teach you all a lesson, so you know who’s in charge in this house.” 

Rhett’s voice was particularly arrogant on the other end. The next moment, there was a scream from Sofia. Then the call was abruptly cut off. 

Emily’s face darkened. 

“Is something wrong? Daniel noticed Emily’s expression and asked in a serious tone. 

Emily hid her emotions and said goodbye, It’s nothing, just a small family issue. You rest well. I need to go handle it.” 

“Do you need help? Charles, catching Daniel’s hint, stood up and asked with concern.

No need! As Emily said this, she was already at the door. Her figure quickly disappeared.

She called the property management as she went downstairs. There’s someone causing trouble at my house. Go over and control the situation. I’ll be there soon. 

The property management staff immediately agreed. Emily was about to put her phone away. A hand suddenly reached out and snatched her phone. 

Emily frowned. Instinctively, she struck out. 

…Ouch, ouch… Emily, let go of my hand…” 

“Emily, what are you doing? Let go of Bianca!” 

Emily hadn’t expected these two to still be here. They were deliberately waiting for her. Hearing James’s words, she didn’t immediately let go of Bianca. Instead, she tightened her grip, making Bianca cry out in pain, and slowly retrieved her phone from Bianca’s hand. Then she gave a hard push. 

“Bianca, are you okay?” Bianca stumbled, and James quickly caught her, asking with concern. 

“James, I’m fine. I didn’t mean to take Emily’s phone. I was just afraid she had something against me and wouldn’t listen to me, so I thought of doing this.” 

Bianca hurriedly explained. Tears kept falling, and she cried uncontrollably. Her tears also moved James. He glared at Emily with cold eyes, “Apologize, or don’t blame me for being rude.”
