‘Rhett, you jerk! How dare you!” 

Violette, who had always been gentle and submissive, couldn’t hold back any longer after hearing Rhett’s words. Her eyes blazed with fury, and she charged at Rhett, delivering a hard slap across his face. 

Rhett was stunned by the slap. 

If he hadn’t been on the phone, he would have started yelling at Violette again. 

Rhett quickly apologized to the person on the other end of the call, Mr. Palmer, sorry about that. My wife and kids are right here with me. You want to come here…” 

Emily suddenly reached out and snatched the phone from Rhett’s hand. “Dean Palmer, right?” 

Dean paused, hearing the soft, melodic voice of a young woman. 

“Yeah! Who are you, young lady? Are you Rhett’s daughter?” 

Such a pleasant voice made him feel a shiver down his spine. 

A woman like this to settle the debt? Not a bad idea. 

His tone softened considerably. 

Emily spoke calmly, “I’m not, but I can make decisions. How much does he owe you?” 

“Five hundred thousand dollars! No, it’s been a day, so now it’s five hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Are you planning to pay off 

Rhett’s debt?” 

Dean was genuinely curious about the woman on the other end of the call; her tone was quite bold. 

Could she really have the money to pay up? 

He was intrigued.

“You… you lied to me… You said it was a million dollars! I suggested selling the house, and you said it wouldn’t be enough… How could you do this?” 

The house they lived in was only worth a few hundred thousand dollars. Violette’s original plan was to sell the house and borrow the rest if needed. 

But Rhett had refused, saying it wouldn’t be enough anyway, and it was better to borrow more money to avoid the family ending up homeless.

Once, Violette had shared sweet moments with Rhett.

But at some point, Rhett started to change. One day, after drinking, he couldn’t control himself and hit her when she tried to care for him. 

Emily wasn’t asking Rhett to pay off his debt. She wanted Violette to see his true colors and gather the courage to divorce him. 

She continued speaking to Dean on the phone, “Please wait there. We’ll be right over.” 

Dean raised an eyebrow, eager to meet the people on the other end. 

“Alright, I’m in a good mood today. I’ll wait for you,” Dean said with a smile. 

Emily hung up the phone and released her foot from Rhett’s. 

“Rhett, let’s go to your house!” 

“No, Emily, we can’t go. You… you shouldn’t get involved. I’ll go back with Rhett!” 

Violette hurriedly tried to persuade Emily. 

“Stop talking nonsense!” Rhett got up from the ground, hesitating whether to run, but hearing Violette’s words, he immediately retorted. 

He quickly grabbed Sofia, “Come on, let’s go back together.” 

With Violette by Emily’s side, he was somewhat afraid of her. 

But by holding Sofia, Violette would surely follow him back. 

“Dad, let go of me!” Sofia had heard Rhett’s plan to sell her and struggled.
