Chapter 73 Satisfaction! Every Bit of Suffering Repaid a Thousandfold!Â
At Moon Bay Apartments, Sloane was on cloud nine.Â
She’d finally vented all her frustration and anger–and the cruise ship incident had been neatly wrapped up too.Â
Pinning the blame on Josh was the perfect move. She’d heard he’d been killed recently, she didn’t care how gruesome his death was, as long as she was in theÂ
clear.Â
Sloane hummed a tune, dabbing ointment on her calf. The thought of Nova suffering a thousand times more than her made the stinging wound feel bearable.Â
Ding–dong.Â
The doorbell rang.Â
“Who is it?” Sloane set down the ointment, slipped on her slippers, and padded to the door. When she peeked through the peephole, her eyes lit up.Â
“Kael!”Â
Was today her lucky day? Two wins in one night!Â
Sloane flung the door open, throwing herself into his arms with a coquettish grin. “Kael, what are you doing here? Did you miss me?”Â
Kael stared at her blankly, closing the door with one hand.Â
“Are you hungry? I’ll make you a midnight snack!” Sloane tugged him toward the kitchen.Â
Kael’s expression was dark. He picked up the ointment from the coffee table, twirling it between his fingers. “Does your calf still hurt?”Â
Warmth flooded Sloane’s chest. She tilted her head, pressing a kiss to his jaw. “It does… but if you help me apply the ointment, it’ll stop hurting right away.”Â
Before she could finish, a hand clamped down on the back of her neck.Â
“Ah!” Sloane’s face paled. She thrashed like a fish out of water. “Kael… what are you-”Â
Kael’s eyes were icy, as if he held a piece of trash rather than a person. “Did you know about Nova being kidnapped?”Â
Fear shot through Sloane, her heart racing. “Ms. Hale was hurt? How?”Â
Kael’s thumb brushed her cheek, but his words sent shivers down her spine. “Her calf–just like yours–is covered in glass cuts.”Â
Sloane’s eyes widened. She avoided his gaze, stammering, “Who would do something so cruel? Is she in the hospital now? Is serious?”Â
Kael’s gaze darkened. He leaned in, his voice dropping to a low growl. “You’ve been with me for nearly four months. You should know my limits by now, right?”Â
A cold chill swept over Sloane.Â
Crack!Â
Kael slammed her to the floor.Â
“Ah!” Pain shot through Sloane’s body. The cuts on her calf split open, bleeding through her pants.Â
Kael showed no mercy. He picked up a glass from the table, smashing it against the edge. He stepped toward her, a shard in his hand, his smile menacing. “You really had nothing to do with this?”Â
Sloane’s face was as white as a sheet, but panic outweighed the pain. “I don’t know anything! I was home the whole time… Ah!”Â
Kael drove the glass shard into her wound. His eyes were cold, like a killer’s.Â

7 want the truth.” he said, each word sharp as a knife.Â
“Ah! Stop)” Sloane screamed, her sanity fraying.Â
This was the first time she’d seen Kael this ruthless–he was scarier than the devil himself. The pain was so intense, she almost blurted out the truth.Â
No!Â
If she confessed, she’d be finished. Her end would be worse than Josh’s.Â
“I really don’t know!” Sloane looked up, tears streaming down her face, playing the victim. “Kael, I’ve been with you for four months. I know better than to cross you. Why would I do something like that?”Â
Kael’s eyes were cold and calculating. After a moment, he stood up and called Sam. “Check the surveillance for Unit 6, Building 10 at Moon Bay.”Â
Sloane’s blood ran cold. She’d never expected him to go this far.Â
Sam understood immediately. “Right away, Mr. Voss.”Â
Kael looked down at Sloane, who lay on the floor like a broken doll. “This is your last chance. If you don’t tell me now, you know what’ll happen.”Â
“I… I…” Sloane’s face was as white as paper. Despair washed over her. Staring into Kael’s cold eyes, she could already see her tragic end–no better than Josh’s.Â
Ten minutes later, Sam called back. “Mr. Voss, the footage confirms Ms. Reed was at home the entire time.”Â
Sloane froze. She’d thought she misheard. So the man she’d hired had cleaned up the surveillance.Â
“I see,” Kael said, his tone unreadable. He hung up and walked toward Sloane.Â
Sloane quickly recovered, looking up at him with tearful eyes. “Kael, I really didn’t know Ms. Hale was hurt. Is she okay? Can I go visit her? She doesn’t have many friends–maybe I can take care of her.”Â
She stared at him, her face a picture of innocence, like a wounded little animal.Â
But Kael felt no sympathy. He grabbed her chin, his grip tight enough to bruise.Â
“Sloane, remember this–Nova is my bottom line. Anyone who hurts her will pay a thousand times over. They’ll wish they were never born.Â
“Nobody is exempt.”Â
His words were light, but they sent Sloane into a cold sweat.Â
1… I remember,” she whispered, humiliated.Â
Kael released her, his face filled with disgust. He turned and walked out, not sparing her injured body a second glance–as if her death wouldn’t even make him blink.Â
BangÂ
The door slammed shut.Â
Sloane’s strength gave out. She collapsed to the floor, her face pale, gasping for breath. Every inch of her body ached, especially her calf–it felt like someoneÂ
had carved out the flesh.Â
Kael was so cruel….Â
Tears blurred Sloane’s vision. She crawled toward the table, reaching for her phone, desperate for help. But she was too weak. She lay there like a dead fish, helpless.Â
Through her sobs, she replayed Kael’s words in her head.Â
“Nova is my bottom line… Anyone who hurts her will pay a thousand times over…Â

Nobody is exemptÂ
His protectiveness was like a knife in her heart.Â
He didn’t care about her. He didn’t care if she was in pain, or if she lived or died.Â
His heart only belonged to Nova.Â
Why?!Â
She’d been willing to wait for him–nine years, if that’s what it took.Â
Blood loss made her dizzy. Her vision faded, and she blacked out.Â
Nova woke up the next morning.Â
She stared at her surroundings, still in a daze–like she couldn’t quite believe where she was.Â
“Awake?” Kael took her hand gently, his voice soft. He’d stayed by her side all night; his eyes were bloodshot, heavy with exhaustion.Â
“Are you still hurting?”Â
Nova’s gaze trembled. She looked at the man right in front of her, and all the painful memories from last night came flooding back–coiling around her chest like a venomous snake, squeezing until she could barely breathe.Â
He’s the one who hurt me. Every scar, every tear… It’s all because of him.Â
Yet here he was, again–putting on that same loving, devoted act, like none of it had ever happened.Â
