Chapter 80 Agony–Nova Was Gone, Kael Panicked…Â
She heard the warning loud and clear–Cooperate, or else.Â
Sloane bit her lip until it bled. The “kindness” he’d shown her earlier felt like a joke now.Â
Everything he does for me has a price.Â
The way he’d defended her from the paparazzi. The gentle way he’d spoken to her.Â
Tears stung her eyes. She fought to hold them back.Â
Finally, she forced a bitter smile. “I’ll record it.”Â
With that, Kael had no more reason to stay. He opened the door and got out.Â
All he could think about was getting home to Nova. She was hurt–she needed him.Â
Sam was waiting outside, holding a bag of medicine. “Mr. Voss, “Mrs. Voss‘ medication.”Â
Kael checked the bag carefully. “Where’s the doctor’s note?”Â
“The doctor said Mrs. Voss shouldn’t get her wound wet, and she should avoid beef and lamb. Oh, and the scar cream you asked for is at the bottom,” SamÂ
replied.Â
Kael inspected every item before nodding. “Finish this. As soon as Sloane’s video is ready, send it to PR.”Â
“Yes, Mr. Voss.”Â
In the car, Sloane heard every word. Tears streamed down her face, unchecked.Â
What a fool I am!Â
She’d watched him fuss over Nova’s medicine, his voice soft with concern. Meanwhile, the ointment she’d bought for him sat forgotten in her bag.Â
This is the difference between being loved and being tolerated.Â
Sam opened the car door, his expression neutral. “Ms. Reed, we need to record the video now. PR is waiting.”Â
Sloane gave him a smile that looked more like a grimace, staring out the window.Â
She’d hoped this scandal would destroy Nova. Instead, she’d lost everything–her chance to win Kael’s heart, and possibly her career.Â
Saro didn’t care about her feelings. He set up his phone and handed her a script. “Dry your tears, Ms. Reed. We can start.”Â
Sloane bit her cheek, humiliated. She took the paper and began to read.Â
Kael arrived home with the medicine, a small smile on his face. But when he opened the door, the villa was empty.Â
“Nova?”Â
No answer,Â
A strange panic settled in his chest. He set the medicine down and ran to the bedroom–empty. He checked the living room, the balcony, and the kitchen–nowhere.Â
He panted, his heart racing. He’d searched the entire villa twice, and still no sign of her.Â

Then he saw it: the cherry tree.Â
His heart stopped.Â
Memories flooded back–planting the tree with her, her laughter as she’d hugged him, saying, “You’re silly for doing this just because I mentioned liking cherries.”Â
He’d kissed her forehead, teasing, “Silly? You’re the one who fell for me over a tree. Dummy.”Â
She’d huffed, pushing him away. “I didn’t fall for you over a tree! I… I love you! And if you ever hurt me…”Â
“What will you do?” he’d asked, grinning.Â
“I’ll leave!” she’d said, laughing as she picked up a watering can.Â
Kael stared at the tree, his chest tight with pain. He could barely breathe.Â
“Baby…”Â
His face turned pale. All he could see was Nova’s tear–stained face, curled up in bed alone, sobbing.Â
“I’m sorry…Â
“Don’t leave me. Please, don’t leave me…”Â
He pulled out his phone, hands shaking, and called her.Â
The ringtone echoed through the living room.Â
She’d left her phone behind.Â
Kael’s heart dropped to his stomach. He ran out of the villa, frantic.Â
n his twenty–something years, he’d never felt this scared.Â
Nova was his everything.Â
vo one else mattered.Â
f she were gone… he didn’t know how to go on.Â
is he ran, he heard two neighbors talking, “Did you hear? A woman was attacked by two men in the alley earlier. Poor thing…”Â
Cael’s heart skipped a beat. He grabbed their arms, his eyes red. “What did you say?”Â
he neighbor frowned. “Some guy attacked a woman. We don’t know what happened to her… Those men are animals! They should rot in hell!”Â
ael’s breath hitched. He didn’t wait for more. He ran toward the alley, his mind racing.Â
lease don’t let it be her. Please.Â
te knew how irrational it was–but if anything else happened to Nova, he’d lose his mind.Â
round the corner, he saw a woman’s figure.Â
Lael’s eyes widened. He ran to her, pulling her into a tight hug. His voice was hoarse, raw. “Noval Where were you?!”Â
Who are you?!” the woman snapped, pushing him away. She looked at him like he was crazy, storming off.Â
Cael’s eyes were red. He realized his mistake–she wasn’t Nova.Â

Not far away, Nova watched him, her expression cold. She’d seen his panic, his desperation.Â
The man who was always so calm, so in control–now falling apart.Â
He asked every passerby if they’d seen her, yelling orders into his phone to find her.Â
Is he really that scared of me leaving?Â
Nova laughed bitterly. She was calm, almost detached–while he fell apart.Â
“Kael,” she called, her voice quiet.Â
Kael froze.Â
He turned slowly.Â
And there she was–standing still, unharmed.Â
His eyes filled with tears. He ran to her, pulling her into a hug so tight it hurt. His voice was broken. “Baby… where were you? Why didn’t you tell me? I was soÂ
scared…”Â
Nova stood stiffly in his arms. His worried voice should have made her happy. Instead, it felt like a slap in the face.Â
Especially when she smelled the faint scent of Sloane’s perfume on his clothes.Â
Memories flashed back–him walking away with Sloane, leaving her to be attacked.Â
Her heart ached. She pushed him away, her eyes downcast. “The villa was too stuffy. I went for a walk.”Â
Kael refused to let go, his hands on her waist.Â
“I thought… I thought you’d been hurt by those men,” he said, his voice trembling. He couldn’t bring himself to say the words–I thought you left me.Â
His throat tightened. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”Â
Nova’s eyes flickered. A bitter smile tugged at her lips.Â
I was hurt while you were kissing Sloane.Â
Bitterness spread through her. She looked up at him, her voice soft. “Did you think I left?”Â
He didn’t answer–but his eyes told her everything. He was terrified of losing her.Â
Kael’s face crumpled. He buried his face in her neck, like a hurt puppy. “Nova, don’t tease me like that… Don’t say things like that.”Â
A sharp pain shot through Nova’s heart.Â
So he can feel pain. But his pain is nothing compared to mine.Â
He’d never understand what it was like to watch the man she loved choose someone else. To be abandoned, over and over.Â
Nova dug her nails into her palm, forcing herself to stay calm.Â
“Never leave me,” Kael whispered, his eyes wet. He held her tighter.Â
Nova’s shoulders trembled.Â
When she finally came to her senses, her eyes were red and her voice sounded distant and hollow. “Kael, where were you when it mattered?”Â
It’s too late.Â
He’d broken his promises first. Now, she’d keep hers–she’d leave him, forever.Â

Chapter 80 Agony–Nova Was Gone, Kael Panicked…Â
Watching him panic when he thought she was gone had sparked a dark curiosity.Â
What would he do if he thought I was dead?Â
Kael didn’t catch her quiet words. He pulled back, his eyes filled with fear. “What did you say?”Â
“Nothing,” she said, forcing a small smile. “It’s late. Let’s go home.”Â
“Yes. Let’s go home.”Â
He took her hand–and froze.Â
The ring was gone.Â
His face turning pale, he lifted her hand, staring at her bare finger.Â
‘Nova, where’s your ring?”Â
