Chapter 84 Torment, Satisfaction & Reversal–Nova’s Heart DiedÂ
It was Sam.Â
When he saw Nova’s haggard, pale face, worry flashed in his eyes. “Mrs. Voss, are you alright? Should I take you to the hospital?”Â
Nova shook her head, a bitter smile on her lips. “I’m fine. Just caught a cold yesterday… Did you need something?”Â
Sam didn’t question her lie. He held out a gift box in his hand, smiling. “Mr. Voss asked me to bring this to you. He wants you to wear it and meet him at Central High School later.”Â
Central High?Â
Why there?Â
Nova froze. A flood of memories crashed over her, sharp and painful. Her hands tightened into fists at her sides.Â
Sam added. “Mr. Voss started preparing last night. He went there early this morning to set up a surprise for you.” He hesitated, then added, “He should have texted you… Didn’t you see it?”Â
Last night?Â
Wasn’t he with Sloane?Â
Nova’s eyes flickered. She pulled out her phone, and sure enough–there were messages from Kael, sent at 5 a.m.Â
Kael: [Baby, Sam will bring you something at 9 a.m. Get ready, then come to Central High.]Â
Kael: [I put breakfast in the insulated box. Heat it up before eating. No rush–take your time.]Â
A faint, painful flutter stirred in her chest. She suddenly remembered his words from yesterday. “I have a surprise for you tomorrow. You’ll love it.”Â
“Mrs. Voss, I’ll wait for you downstairs,” Sam said. “I’ll drive you there when you’re ready.”Â
Nova’s eyes darkened. She clutched the gift box tightly, her voice flat. “No, thank you. You can go back. I’ll come on my own later.”Â
Sam didn’t argue. He nodded and left.Â
Nova stepped back into the house, her mind a whirlwind. Even without opening the box, she knew what was inside–a new ring.Â
An apology? A bribe?Â
She glanced down at her bare ring finger, a bitter laugh escaping her.Â
In the kitchen, she found the insulated box. The food inside was still warm–he must have made it recently. The kitchen counters still had traces of his work: a used mixing bowl, a spatula in the sink. She could almost picture him standing there, busy preparing her breakfast.Â
He came home last night.Â
A wave of sadness washed over her.Â
But what does it matter? He still cheated. Coming home doesn’t erase that.Â
Nova took a deep breath, forcing down the tightness in her chest. She carried the gift box upstairs and opened it.Â
Inside was a dress–Chanel’s latest haute couture, a six–figure piece. It was her favorite brand.Â
Kael had always known her tastes. Every time a new collection dropped, he’d buy her whatever she wanted, no matter the cost.Â
The other wealthy wives in their circle had always envied her, teasing, “You’re so lucky to have him. Most men wouldn’t spend a dime on their wives like this.”Â

Back then, her heart had been full of sweetness.Â
Now, looking at the dress, she felt only sorrow.Â
Clothes go out of style every season.Â
Hearts change too.Â
Nova smiled bitterly. She put on the dress anyway, applied a light layer of makeup, and headed to Central High.Â
She wasn’t going for Kael’s “surprise” or that silly ring.Â
She just wanted to see the school one last time–her youth, her memories, all tied to this place.Â
On the way, Kael texted her: [Nova, I’m waiting for you at the stadium.]Â
The word “stadium” made her eyes sting. Memories rushed back, unbidden.Â
It had been in that stadium, during their second year of high school, that Kael had confessed to her–grandly, passionately, with roses and fireworks.Â
“I heard you’re applying to NYU. I’ll work hard to get in too… I’ll be right there with you.” He’d never been good with words, but that promise–raw, sincere–had meant more to her than any sweet talk.Â
Later, they’d both gotten into NYU, their acceptance letters a testament to their love.Â
She still remembered how the whole school had talked about it. “Kael changed for her,” they’d said. “He stopped playing basketball at lunch, stopped hanging out with his friends. He studied like a man possessed.”Â
Once, a friend had joked, “Why bother? If you can’t get into NYU, just find another girl.”Â
Kael had gotten angry, his face serious. He’d run to her afterward, reassuring her, “I’m not joking. I’m doing this for us.”Â
Nova blinked back tears.Â
Youthful promises are so fragile.Â
Loving someone for a moment is easy–like Kael had loved her back then.Â
Loving someone for a lifetime is hard–like Kael had forgotten how to do it now.Â
She laughed at herself, closing her eyes to calm down. When she arrived at the school, she avoided the main path, taking a narrow side road to the stadium.Â
The 500–yard walk took her ten minutes. Her hands were sweating, her chest tight with anxiety. It was torture, every step heavier than the last.Â
Nova took a deep breath and stepped inside.Â
And then she froze.Â
I was like someone had poured ice water over her head. She stood there, rooted to the spot, her blood turning to ice.Â
in the center of the stadium, surrounded by tens of thousands of Freud roses, Kael was on one knee, He was slipping a ring onto a woman’s finger–gentle, oving, devotion in every gesture.Â
That woman was Sloane.Â
–Â
they looked perfect together a successful man, a young, beautiful woman.Â
A match made in heaven.Â
Nova’s eyes were red and swollen. She could clearly see that Sloane was wearing the exact same Chanel dress as her.Â
Humiliation. Anger. Betrayal… They churned in her chest, a violent storm.Â
This stadium–once the place of her happiest memory–had become her execution ground.Â

She watched as Kael leaned down and kissed Sloane, slow and tender. Tears poured down her face, unchecked.Â
Her throat tightened. She turned and fled, her steps unsteady, as if she were running from a nightmare.Â
As she ran out of the school, she heard the chatter of students.Â
“Did you hear? Our senior Kael Voss is back with his girlfriend!”Â
“Really? Let’s go see! They were such a legend here–both got into NYU! Mr. Voss was famous for spoiling her back in high school…”Â
Nova’s throat felt like it was closing. Tears blurred her vision.Â
Once, hearing those words would have made her day.Â
Now, they only left her heartbroken.Â
After leaving the school, she wandered the streets aimlessly until she found herself in front of a small dumpling shop–one she and Kael had frequented yearsÂ
ago.Â
The owner’s wife stepped outside, and her face lit up when she saw Nova. “Dear! It’s been so long! What a nice surprise–come in, come in!”Â
Nova hesitated, then forced a bitter smile. She couldn’t turn down the woman’s warmth. “I was passing by… I missed your dumplings. Thought I’d stop in.”Â
“Haha, that’s the spirit!” The woman glanced over Nova’s shoulder, confused. “Wait–where’s your boyfriend? He’s always with you.”Â
Nova’s face faltered. Pain flashed in her eyes.Â
“He’s…”Â
He’s with his mistress. He doesn’t have time for me.Â
But she couldn’t say that. Her throat felt dry. “He’s… busy.”Â
“I see…” The woman didn’t press. She wiped down a table for her, then called to her husband in the kitchen to start cooking.Â
You’ve lost weight,” she said, looking at Nova with concern. “Been working too hard? You look exhausted. Even when you’re busy, you need to eat well.”Â
The shop was quiet. After placing the bowl of dumplings on the table, the woman added softly, “I remember how cheerful you used to be. Don’t let life’s roubles weigh you down, dear.”Â
Nova’s heart ached. Tears welled up in her eyes, stinging from the steam of the dumplings. She let them fall, plopping into the bowl.Â
She’s right. I used to laugh so much. Now look at me.Â
Even a stranger who hadn’t seen her in years noticed the change.Â
But Kael? He didn’t see how her heart was breaking. He didn’t see how her pride had been shattered, how she’d lost herself in this marriage.Â
Nova smiled through her tears, forcing herself to finish the dumplings.Â
They tasted the same as always. The price hadn’t changed either.Â
But she could tell the filling was smaller now–just like everything else in her life, it wasn’t what it used to be.Â
Just like her and Kael.Â
Ding–ding!Â
Her phone vibrated on the table.Â
Nova’s eyes locked onto the message instantly, her pupils shrinking in shock.Â

Chapter 84 Torment. Satisfaction & Reversal–Nova’s Heart DiedÂ
Sloane [That dress is a fake–and so are you. Kael doesn’t want your sorry self anymore!]Â
Nova’s mind went blank. Impossible. Kael would never lie to me about something like this!Â
Her hands trembling, she flipped up the dress‘ tag. She’d bought enough Chanel to know a counterfeit when she saw one–every stitch, every logo, every detail matteredÂ
She stared at it, her eyes red and blurry, checking it over and over…Â
But the truth was unavoidable.Â
The dress was a fake.Â
It felt like her heart had been tossed into a boiling pot, then slammed onto the ground and trampled on. The pain was so intense, she could barely breathe.Â
Another message popped up from Sloane: [Nova, wake up! Stop living in denial. Kael isn’t the guy he used to be–he doesn’t love you. Can’t you see that?]Â
Nova read the words numbly. Her throat tasted like iron, like she was swallowing shards of glass.Â
She’s right.Â
Kael wasn’t the same boy she’d fallen for. He was “Mr. Voss” now–CEO of Voss Group, a man who dealt in power and profit, not love.Â
Nova let out a bitter laugh, her gaze drifting to the bowl of dumplings in front of her, her eyes burning with tears.Â
At 22, Kael had been a broke startup founder. They’d lived in a $50–a–month apartment, where a bowl of dumplings felt like a luxury. He’d split one with her. laughing as he said, “One day, I’ll buy you all the dumplings you want.”Â
At 26. Kael was a millionaire. A bowl of dumplings was beneath him now… just like she was.Â
Her face crumpled with pain. She bit her lip so hard it bled, forcing another laugh–hollow, broken.Â
Just then, the shop’s curtain fluttered open, and someone stepped inside.Â
Nova looked up automatically–and froze, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief.Â
Meanwhile, at the stadium, the scene couldn’t have been more different.Â
