My Ambition 15

Chapter 7

The door closed behind Mrs. Fairmont with a soft “click”-a sound like a signal, completely severing my last thread of hesitation.

Settle?

Let sleeping dogs lie?

n their eyes, Catherine Snow’s efforts, dignity, and the life I nearly lost were nothing more than chips that could be bought off with

noney.

My chest ached with each breath, but this pain now burned through my rationality with unusual clarity.

didn’t want to steal Sebastian, but I absolutely couldn’t let them get away with this-Luna must pay for her madness, and the rightwell family, the soil that nurtured her insanity, wouldn’t escape unscathed either.

ebastian still stood by the bed, fatigue and guilt written across his face.

Catherine, rest well, don’t overthink…”

Mr. Brightwell,”

S

interrupted him, my voice trembling from weakness but my eyes sharp as they fixed on him. “I don’t want to hear empty words. I nly ask

you: whose fault is this tender failure?”

ebastian froze, his brow furrowing:

This… was naturally an accident.”

An accident?”

slightly pulled at the corner of my mouth, the movement tugging at my wound and making me gasp. “Luna could precisely locate ay room, dispatch surveillance to track us for nineteen straight hours in a foreign country, tamper with my room’s lock… Mr. rightwell, do you really believe this is something a woman supposedly blinded by love could accomplish alone? Without inside elp, without financial backing, how could she manage it?”

ebastian’s expression changed, a flicker of startled suspicion in his eyes.

lis mother’s previous deception about the arranged marriage had obviously planted thorns in his heart.

struck while the iron was hot, my tone calm but carrying undeniable force:

I’m not accusing anyone-I’m simply stating facts. Now the Fairmont family wants to buy my silence with money, and you want to ppease me with compensation. But Mr. Brightwell, I nearly died in there! Brightwell Corporation’s crucial transformation project is lso in jeopardy! Should all of this just be brushed aside so lightly?”

What do you want to do?” Sebastian’s voice deepened, carrying scrutiny.

I don’t want to do anything,”

I looked at him, speaking each word deliberately. “I’m just a victim-an employee who performed her duties conscientiously yet suffered an unprovoked disaster. I will lawfully protect my rights and cooperate with the police investigation. Meanwhile, as one of the project’s primary coordinators, I have an obligation and must attempt to salvage this project.”

1 gestured for him to bring over my laptop-fortunately, it had been in Sebastian’s room at the time, escaping damage.

Enduring the pain, I slowly powered it on.

“While the electronic backup of the tender isn’t complete, all the core data, technical proposals, and pricing models are here. What Luna swallowed were the hard copies requiring printed signatures and seals, plus several exclusive agency agreement certificates.”

I operated the computer while speaking, beads of sweat forming on my temples from exertion. “These aren’t entirely irreplaceable.”

I opened an encrypted folder containing all my work emails, scanned drafts, and preliminary communications with suppliers that I habitually backed up.

“I have draft scans of some agreements. While they lack legal validity, they’re sufficient to prove our preparatory work and intentions. Most critically, I have good personal relationships with the key European suppliers I’ve been liaising with. I can try convincing them to provide situation statements, or even… testify for us when the tender committee verifies the circumstances.”

Sebastian stared at the files on screen, his eyes blazing with incredulous hope:

“You… how did you…”
