Chapter 4 

I slowly stood up and walked over to him. 

“Mr. Donovan, you can’t just go around accusing people.” 

“I’m just your broke ex. How could I possibly pull off something like this?” 

My tone was all innocent, but the amusement in my eyes was crystal clear. 

He was shaking with rage, raised his hand to slap me. 

Right then, Caleb appeared out of nowhere and caught his wrist. 

“Mr. Donovan,” his voice was ice-cold, “hitting women in public? Not a good look.” 

Caleb showing up was like lighting a fuse-Rex completely lost it. 

‘CALEB!” 

‘It’s YOU!” 

You and this BITCH planned this whole thing!” 

‘Choose your words carefully,” Caleb let go of his wrist, no emotion in his voice. “Bidding’s fair game. If there’s stuff underground, hat’s just tough shit for you.” 

‘As for Ms. Windsor,” he glanced at me, “she’s working with me now.” 

That was the final straw that broke Rex. 

He looked at us like a rabid animal, eyes red with fury. 

MADDIE!” 

CALEB!” 

This isn’t over! You hear me? THIS ISN’T FUCKING OVER!” 

He got dragged away by his assistant, shooting us looks that could kill. 

Caleb looked at me. 

Not bad.” 

This is just the beginning,” I said.

“How is this happening so fast?” 

“It’s Rex!” 

“Has to be him!” 

‘He sent people to trash our office, spreading lies about our family being dirty-he’s trying to destroy us completely!” 

That bastard’s been gunning for our company forever!” 

Rex’s revenge came fast and brutal. 

He knew the company was the only thing left of our parents, and my biggest weakness. 

He was gonna crush it to get back at me. 

‘Don’t panic, Jake. I’ll figure something out.”

Last time, this is exactly how he destroyed the company step by step. 

He used accounting loopholes to frame Jake with massive debt, forcing him to hand over everything.

‘Rex’s overseas bastard kid-his mom’s Sophie Laurent, Swiss model.” 

‘Sophie’s got records of every offshore transaction Rex has made over the years.”

Finally, Caleb spoke again. 

“Send me the address.” 

I knew he’d agreed. 

But I also knew Caleb wasn’t running a charity. 

He was helping me because what Sophie had could destroy Rex completely. 

We were partners, but we were also using each other.
