I finally drag my eyes away from it to see Ryan, Jackson, and Alpha Benjamin watching me. Dane glances around at the group, then finally stops at me.
“Do you think you’ll be able to defeat The Beast, young Alpha?”
“Hell fucking yeah, I will,” I say. “I can’t wait to ride The Beast.”
“I hope you feel that way after you’ve given it a try,” he “I’m not one to back down from a challenge,” I say.

We go through the list of points for The Beast and Dane answers questions before reminding us that breakfast starts at six in the morning and Sparring class starts promptly at eight.
As we all walk back to the dorms, I fall into step beside Ryan.
“Have you ridden The Beast yet?”
“Not this version. It’s been upgraded since I was here. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done to it now.”
He looks almost as excited as I feel.
“While I’ve got you alone, is everything okay with the others? Caroline said you were getting some flack.”
“It’s nothing I can’t handle.”

“Ry, you’re my instructor here, not my brother. I’ve already had to check myself multiple times so I don’t call you Ryan in front of everyone else.”
“I can be your instructor AND your brother, Sebi. I love you and if someone is harassing my little sister, I’ll kick their ass. Luckily I have an outlet for that since I’m co–leading Sparring.”
“I can fight my own battles, Ryan, but thank you.”

“Whose ass are we kicking?” Dane asks, walking up.
I roll my eyes. “No one’s. You too are terrible.”
“Protective,” they say together.

“I can’t wait to see you ride The Beast, Sebi. Your dad has already told me I have to call him and tell him how far you get on your first run,” Dane says.
“Oh great. No pressure.”
“No one gets through it on their first try, Sebi. You know that.”
“I do. See you in the morning,” I say, splitting off from them as they head to the mated couples‘ suites.
“Getting insider information, Sebastiana?” Nicholas asks the moment I walk into the dorm area. It‘ s like he was waiting for me.
“My family and I aren’t cheaters, Nicholas. They just know that I’m excited to finally get my chance on The Beast.”
“Sure, Sebastiana, whatever you say.
“Give it a rest, Nicholas,” Cole says, walking up
behind me.
“Yeah, you’re starting to give Alphas a bad name with all your whining,” Shane says.
“You don’t think they’re giving her insider information on how to defeat that thing?” Nicholas growls.
“I think that even if they told all of us that we’d have to face the Moon Goddess herself, none of us would stand a chance of defeating her. She already told you that they aren’t a family of cheaters. Apparently, only those who think they can’t win feel the need to cheat,” Cole says.
Nicholas growls but turns on his heel and stomps off.
“Thanks, guys,” I say.
“Don’t thank me. I was serious. That guy gives Alphas a bad name.”
Because it’s our first night at the Academy and because we have an early morning, Shane and I sleep in our own bedrooms.
The next morning, I get my chance to try out The Beast.

“We always ask on day one if anyone wants to ride The Beast. Anyone game?” Dane asks

When no one says anything, I step forward. “Well, I will. I’ve been waiting my whole like to ride
this monster.

The instructors all chuckle.
As I walk to the front, I turn and look at Nicholas.
“By the way Nicholas, if you want to make it on the leaderboard, this is how you do it. You won’t ever be a leader if you wait for others to carve your path for you,” I say, earning chuckles from the students this time.
“Which instructor do you want to go up against?” Dane asks, grinning at me.
