After dinner, we went upstairs for karaoke, truly a standard class reunion.
I didn’t dare look at Ethan anymore, feeling my face flush with embarrassment.
But coincidentally, his voice kept coming from nearby. He had drunk quite a bit too, his voice a bit hoarse.
the class hottie put on a show, starting with a sexy dance as soon as she entered the room. She ended by taking off her fur coat to reveal a sexy backless dress, causing everyone to cheer.
Although I didn’t like her, I couldn’t help but applaud.
Samantha tugged at my hand in frustration. “Come on, she’s your rival!”
I was about to pull my hand back when I heard a soft chuckle beside me.
I looked up to see Ethan watching me, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
While everyone else was watching the class hottie, he was looking at me.
I awkwardly averted my gaze and pulled Samantha to sit in a corner, quietly blending into the background.
Ethan chose a song called “Loving You is My Secret.”
“…Loving you is my secret, I want to hide you in my heart…”
The song was very gentle, and he lowered his voice, like a summer breeze rippling
across a lake.
Our class monitor teased, “Ethan, such a romantic song, is the person you have a crush on here tonight?”
Ethan wiped the microphone clean and put it back, his gaze sweeping over me, but he just smiled without saying anything.
I shifted uncomfortably, using a toothpick to eat some fruit from the platter.
Samantha looked at me, puzzled. “Lily, don’t you hate apples?”
Only then did I realize what I was doing. I looked up to see Ethan smiling at me again.
Oh no.
I must be drunk. How else could I think Ethan had a crush on me? Why else would his
gaze seem so affectionate?
Just as Samantha was planning to ask Ethan to send me home, he received a phone call, said goodbye to us, and left.
Instantly, several girls sighed in disappointment.
The guys looked a bit annoyed. We played around for a while longer before everyone headed home.
Samantha, who hadn’t been drinking, helped me upstairs. Looking at my apartment, she nodded approvingly. “It might be small, but it has everything you need. This is your real
home.”
I understood her implication – Jack’s place might have been luxurious, but it wasn’t
mine.
Samantha looked around and, not seeing any of Jack’s things, left satisfied.
Before leaving, she hugged me and said, “Lily, my dear, we’ve gotten through the toughest days. From now on, it’s all sunshine and flowers.”
I nodded with a smile. “I know, I know. You can go now.”
