Freedom Led Me Home 7

After showering, I saw that Samantha had messaged to say she got home safely. I was about to go to sleep but couldn’t resist checking Jack’s Instagram.

Wow, he really went all out these past two days

Bar hopping, dancing with hot girls, truly living up to his title as the nightclub prince

Rose even posted a photo of him sleeping shirtless in bed, captioned: Jack’s so heavy when he’s drunk, I almost couldn’t get out from under him.”

His buddies were all teasing in the comments, many calling Rose sisterinlaw.”

Jack replied: You’re just too weak.”

Disgusting

I resisted the urge to delete them, but I did start cleaning up my own Instagram

I deleted all the posts about him, cleared our chat history, and suddenly my phone seemed to run faster

In the past, because I used to sleep late, I always rushed to work with no time for breakfast

Now, I wake up early, make myself a sandwich, and even have time to take a selfie for Instagram: A beautiful day starts now!”

After breakfast, I catch the bus to work. It’s a bit crowded. When I get my paycheck this month, I’ll go for my driver’s license test and see if I can get a car on installment next

year

As soon as I enter the office, my colleague Wendy feigns surprise: Well, well, if it isn’t Lily! Did the sun rise from the west today? You’re actually on time?”

I feel a bit smug: I’ll never be late again. I’m definitely going to get that $30 perfect

attendance bonus!”

Wendy marvels at how much I’ve changed over the weekend. I tell her I’ve broken up with my boyfriend

Good riddance! That guy was clearly no good, he didn’t deserve you!”

Wendy is delighted, afraid I might go back to him: Give yourself a couple of days to adjust, then I’ll introduce you to some promising young men. I guarantee they’ll be ten times better than your ex!”

Only after breaking up did I realize how much people around me disliked Jack. I also realized how blind I had been before. But not anymore

Quick, grab your notebook. We have a new director joining the company today. They say he’s the young master, just back from studying abroad, and extremely capable!”

My colleagues excitedly rush to the conference room. Being the wallflower that I am, I first go to the restroom to fix my hair

I think I slept on it funny last night. These waves look good, but they’re a bit highmaintenance

Wendy calls me, telling me to hurry up as the director has arrived

I rush towards the conference room. My heels had just gotten a bit wet, and the marble floor is slippery. Just as I’m about to push open the glass door of the conference room

someone from inside opens it

I can’t stop my momentum

I try to grab onto something nearby, but a strong pair of arms wraps around me tightly

Ouch-”

The man in front of me lets go, and I see his back hit the decorative shelf. It looks painful

I quickly bow, my face red with embarrassment: I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to. Are you

okay?”

I wait for a while, but the man doesn’t say anything. Curious, I look up and freeze on the

spot

It’s not just me; the entire room of nearly a hundred people is staring at us in shock

I’m fine. Be careful.”

Ethan looks down at me, a hint of helplessness in his expression

I’m completely stunned. How can there be such a coincidence in this world

Ethan is actually the legendary new director

I open the company’s profile. Great, Gu Corporation

He won’t think I deliberately came to work here to get close to him, will he

Just as I’m wondering whether I should explain, Wendy and the others corner me in the break room, their faces full of curiosity: Not bad, you’re quite bold. Throwing yourself at

him on the first day?”

I’m speechless

Chapter 1 Summary – “After Leaving the Jerk, I Married My High School Crush”

Part 1: The Last Straw

Lily had spent three years loving Jack — a man who took her loyalty for granted.
When she caught him at a bar, his hands around his childhood sweetheart Rose, he didn’t even look guilty. Instead, he rolled his eyes and accused her of being dramatic.
That night, Lily realized the only drama she’d been living was loving a man who never saw her worth.

Part 2: The Breakup

Jack sat on the couch, irritated, calling her immature. His tone was cold, dismissive — as if she were the problem.
But Lily was done explaining, done defending herself.
As he walked to the bathroom to take a call, she followed silently — and heard the truth for herself.
Rose’s voice floated through the door, soft and flirtatious. “Jack, she’s not giving you a hard time, is she?”
Jack’s voice, gentle and patient — a tone Lily never received — replied, “Of course not, don’t worry.”
That was the moment her heart stopped loving him.

Part 3: The Quiet Escape

While they laughed behind the closed door, Lily quietly packed her things.
She didn’t cry. She didn’t scream. She simply left — suitcase in hand, dignity intact.
Before stepping out, she sent one last text:

“We’re done. Don’t contact me again.”
Then she blocked his number — and finally walked away from years of humiliation.

Part 4: The Mockery

Minutes later, her phone buzzed nonstop.
Jack’s friends flooded the group chat, mocking her breakup like it was a running joke.

“Playing the runaway game again, Lily?”
“She’ll be back in a week, like always.”
Their cruel laughter hit harder than she expected. But instead of breaking down, she typed one last message:
“You’re right. I did keep coming back. But this time, I’m gone for good.”
And with that, she left the chat forever.

Part 5: The Painful Realization

That group had always been her silent torture — a reminder of how one-sided her relationship had become.
She used to scroll through every message just to see Jack’s name, hoping for affection, a hint of care.
But all she found was mockery, flirtation, and proof that she’d been nothing more than background noise in his world.

Part 6: The Doormat Years

She remembered how she used to wash his sports clothes, buy him gifts, and even skip meals to surprise him with things he wanted.
He never thanked her. Never looked at her the way he looked at Rose.
All those years of love were wasted on someone who couldn’t even say her name with warmth.
And yet — she had loved him. Deeply. Foolishly.

Part 7: The Turning Point

As she drove away from the apartment, something inside her shifted.
For the first time, Lily felt peace — not because she stopped caring, but because she finally cared about herself.
She didn’t need revenge, or closure.
She just needed to start over.

Part 8: The Unexpected Post

Days later, while Jack bragged online about his “freedom,” Lily made her own quiet statement — a photo on Instagram of her marriage certificate.
The caption was simple:

“Some endings come with better beginnings.”
Within minutes, the internet exploded.

Part 9: The Beggar Returns

Jack showed up at her door that night — eyes red, voice trembling, begging for another chance.
“Lily, you can’t be serious! Who did you marry? Tell me this is a joke!”
But Lily only smiled, calm and radiant.

“You told me I was dramatic, remember? So here’s my final act.”
She closed the door — this time for good.

Part 10: The Full Circle

The man she married wasn’t a stranger.
He was her high school crush — the boy who once waited for her after class, who used to say, “You deserve better, Lily.”
Years later, he kept his promise.
And as Lily stood beside her new husband, she realized that sometimes, losing the wrong person is the only way to find the right one.
