Chapter 52
Lisa’s POV
1 walked deeper into the strange forest, following the voice that called my name
“Lisa my child..
My heart raced in my chest. Every step I took made the world feel stranger and more alive. The air
shimmered with golden light. The trees whispered in a language I couldn’t understand, Glowing insects floated like tiny stars, lighting the way.
I didn’t know where I was going. But something inside me, something deep, kept pulling me forward.
Then I saw her.
She stood in a clearing ahead of me.
A woman.
She had long, flowing brown hair that shimmered like honey in the light. Her eyes were a soft, glowing
blue. She wore a long white dress that moved like mist around her legs even though there was no wind.
She was beautiful.
And familiar.
My breath caught.
It was her.
Althea.
The same woman from my dream.
There was no mistake.
It was her.
She looked at me with a strange expression….one full of love, but also sorrow. Her lips curved into a soft smile as she stepped toward me.
I couldn’t move.
I felt like I was frozen in place.
She came closer, and then, she reached out and touched my face.
Her hand was warm and soft. Her touch made something ache deep inside me. She looked at me like I meant the world to her.
“Oh, Lisa,” she whispered. “My baby… look how big you’ve become. You have grown so much.”
I gasped. My body stiffened. “W What?” I blinked at her. “Why are you saying that to me?”
Her smile deepened, and a tear slid down her cheek. “You’re so beautiful. Just like I imagined you would
be
I stepped back a little. My heart was pounding in my chest. I didn’t understand what was happening.
“Why are you saying those things?” I asked, my voice shaking. “I don’t know you. I’ve never met you before.
Not in real life. Only in a dream.”
She reached up again and gently caressed my cheek. Her touch made me tremble. Not out of fear but
something else. Something I couldn’t explain.
“I’m so happy to meet you, my love,” she said. “I’ve waited so many years for this moment.”
My eyes widened. “Waited… for me?”
She nodded. “Yes. For you.”
“I don’t understand…” I said while taking another step back. “Who are you?”
Her smile faltered just a little. “Oh, Lisa…” she whispered. “You don’t know who I am?”
I shook my head. “No. I really don’t. Please… just tell me.”
She looked at me like I had broken her heart. Like my words had wounded her.
“I thought you would recognize me,” she said softly. “I thought that maybe… just maybe… you would know.”
I didn’t know what to say. My thoughts were spinning too fast. My wolf, Sierra, was completely silent in my
mind. Even she didn’t know what to say.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I don’t remember you.”
She sighed gently. Then her next words shook me to my core.
“I am the woman who gave birth to you,” she said. “I’m your mother, Lisa.”
The world seemed to stop.
Everything went quiet again.
I just stared at her.
“No…” I whispered. “That’s not true.”
“I am your mother,” she said again while stepping closer. Her voice was soft and filled with pain. “I didn’t want to leave you. I never wanted to abandon you. But I had no choice.”
I stumbled back. “No… no, my parents….my mom and dad….”
“They raised you,” she said gently. “But they didn’t give birth to you.”
My heart was thudding so loudly, I could barely hear anything else.
“No. This can’t be happening.” I said while shaking my head. “You’re lying.”
“I’m not,” she whispered. “I am your mother, Lisa. I carried you in my womb. I loved you before I ever held you. And I had to give you up… to save your life.”
Tears pricked my eyes.
I didn’t want to believe her.
But something deep inside me, something buried, was stirring.
It felt true.
It felt real.
“I had to hide you,” she said. “He was going to kill you. I had no other choice.”
“Who?” I asked. “Who wanted to kill me?”
Her eyes filled with pain. “A cruel man. A monster. He was after me, and when he learned I was pregnant… he wanted your power. He wanted to take it for himself. So I ran. I ran with you in my arms, hoping someone would find you and keep you safe.”
Her voice trembled. “And they did. They raised you. They gave you a life. But I have watched from afar. From a place where I could not reach you. I have waited for the day you would return to me.”
I shook my head slowly, trying to make sense of everything.
It was too much.
Too fast.
“I don’t understand,” I said.
“I know,” she said softly. “Let me explain…”
But before she could finish, a sudden noise shattered the silence.
A man’s voice, far away, shouted my name.
“Lisa!”
Everything changed in an instant.
The forest began to fade.
The golden light flickered.
The scent of roses vanished.
“No,” I gasped. “Wait! What’s happening?”
Althea reached for me again, but her hands were becoming transparent.
“I’m not finished,” she said desperately. “There’s more I have to tell you. You’re not safe yet, Lisa. He’s still
out there. You must be careful…”
Her voice was fading.
“Who?” I shouted. “Who is he? Who are you talking about?!”
But it was no use.
The forest disappeared.
And suddenly, I was falling.
Then everything went black.
I woke up to the sound of a voice.
“Lisa!”
I opened my eyes with a sharp gasp and saw Rylan’s face above mine. His hands were on my shoulders.
His eyes were wide with panic.
“Thank the moon goddess,” he whispered. “You’re awake.”
I blinked. My whole body ached. My head throbbed.
I
“What… happened?” I asked weakly.
“You scared me,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “You collapsed. I thought I had lost you. You
weren’t breathing at first. Your heart… I couldn’t feel it.”
I sat up slowly. My head was spinning.
“I was somewhere else,” I said quietly. “I saw her.”
“Who?” he asked.
“Althea.”
His eyes widened. “You mean… the woman from the statue?”
I nodded. “Yes. She was there. She spoke to me.”
1 looked behind him.
The statue was destroyed.
Only the legs remained. The upper part was scattered around in broken stone pieces.
“The statue… it is broken?” I asked.
“Yes,” he said. “Right after you touched it. There was a blast of energy. I couldn’t reach you. You were surrounded by light… and then you collapsed.”
I pressed my hand to my chest.
Charte
It still felt warm. Like Althea had touched me just moments ago.
“She said…” I paused. My voice trembled. “She said that she was my mother.”
Rylan’s eyes darkened with shock. “What?”
“She said I was her child. That she gave birth to me. That she had to leave me to protect me from
someone dangerous.”
He was quiet for a long moment. “Do you believe her?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know. It felt real. Too real. But maybe it was just a vision. Maybe I was dreaming.”
“Lisa…” Rylan said gently. “I don’t think it was a dream.”
I looked at him.
The wind blew softly around us.
The ruins of the statue were glowing faintly, as if the magic still lingered.
“What if it’s true?” I whispered. “What if I’m not who I thought I was?”
Rylan didn’t answer.
Because he didn’t know either.
I closed my eyes.
Althea’s voice echoed in my head.
He’s still looking for you…
Who was he?
Who was hunting me?
And why?
Too many questions. No answers.
But one thing was clear.
Everything I knew about myself…
Was about to change.
Forever.
