Chapter 168Â
“Emily, if you’re gonna stand up for this chick, she better be worth it! Otherwise, you’re just being ungrateful. You trust some outsider over your own brother? If you don’t believe me, make her show the evidence.”Â
“Or better yet, find someone who can prove she’s innocent!”Â
Chase’s words gave his buddies the green light to jump in, tossing out their own snarky comments.Â
Emily’s mention of the song plagiarism had thrown Chase for a loop, but his friends‘ taunts brought his confidence back. He was sure Emily wouldn’t find any evidence or witnesses. Everyone there was on his side–either his own crew or the bar staff who were loyal to him. No way they’d back Wren.Â
With a sudden flash of inspiration, Chase spoke up. “How about a bet? If Wren can prove we messed with her, I’ll not only compensate her but apologize in person. But if she can’t, you gotta prove online that I didn’t rip off that song.”Â
So that’s his plan, Emily thought. But she wasn’t intimidated.Â
Just as Emily was about to agree, Wren, looking worried, grabbed her hand and shook her head. “Emily, maybe we should let this go. The evidence will be hard to find. The bar manager is on their side, and there’s no proof. As for witnesses, they cleared everyone out. ThereÂ
are none!”Â
Wren’s concern made Emily feel for her, understanding that Wren had only acted to protect herself. But Emily wasn’t about to back down.Â
She turned to the police. “Can you get the full surveillance footage from that night?”Â
Emily knew there would likely be complications. Otherwise, they would’ve already charged Wren. The police had found the footage incomplete, with a chunk missing due to a supposed equipment malfunction. Conveniently, the missing part was when Chase started harassing Wren.Â
The bar manager and other witnesses had all claimed Wren tried to seduce Chase and, failing that, attacked him in anger.Â
Chase smirked. “So, it’s clear she’s lying, right? Just like her, her friends aren’t any better. Once you prove I didn’t plagiarize, I’ll ask Mom and Dad to let you come back home. But you’d better behave!”Â
As if letting Emily return home was a favor. Emily no longer cared about that. And who said she was out of options?Â
She turned to Wren. “Wren, when Chase first started bothering you, were there other people around? Wasn’t the clearing out done later?”Â
Wren’s eyes lit up. “Emily, you reminded me! Someone was secretly recording with their phone at the beginning. There were witnesses, but they were all chased away. It might be hard to find them now.”Â
Emily faced the police. “Officer, I think the surveillance footage was tampered with. I request a thorough review. And as Wren mentioned, there were other witnesses. Please look into this!”Â
Chase wasn’t worried about the footage, but finding witnesses…Â
His friends frowned but reassured him. “Chase, don’t sweat it. Even if there are witnesses, they can only prove you tried to force Wren to drink. That’s just a bit inappropriate, nothing more.”Â

Chapter 168Â
Chase felt a wave of relief. He decided to call in a lawyer to handle the mess.Â
He dialed up Aiden, careful not to alert Eli, and asked for legal help. Meanwhile, the police began questioning the patrons from the barÂ
earlier.Â
Emily quickly spotted inconsistencies in the footage. She smiled knowingly.Â
“Why are you smiling? The footage was interrupted. What’s there to see?”Â
“Is that so? We’ll see about that.”Â
Emily’s fingers flew over the keyboard, almost a blur. With a final press of the Enter key, she declared, “Got it. The complete footage was forcibly deleted!”Â
She stepped aside, letting the full video play.Â
Chase and his friends‘ faces turned pale. One of them lunged forward, “Turn it off! Turn it off!”Â
But the police stopped them.Â
Chase glared at Emily, fully aware of what the deleted footage showed. He hated her interference. Once, she had always defended him. When had she become so distant, ignoring their family ties?Â
Emily felt Chase’s murderous glare but wasn’t fazed. She was more disgusted by what she saw on the video–Chase’s vile behavior towardsÂ
Wren.Â
She knew Chase would trouble Wren, but never imagined he was so rotten at the core. His celebrity status had masked his true nature, butÂ
drunkenness had revealed it.Â
“Officer, now that we know the truth, can we press charges? I demand severe punishment, including for those who gave false testimony!”Â
Emily spoke through gritted teeth.Â
*Emily, you dare!” Chase’s face twisted in anger.Â
Emily sneered. “Why wouldn’t I? Officer, look, they’re still threatening us.”Â
“Behave yourselves. Bullying a young woman and then trying to turn the tables? Instead of seeking forgiveness, you’re making thingsÂ
worse.‘Â
The police were clearly fed up with Chase and his friends.Â
Chase stopped threatening but insisted, “She wasn’t harmed, and we were the ones attacked. At most, we won’t press charges for the assault if they drop the harassment claims. I was drunk, after all. Or let my lawyer handle it. My status doesn’t allow me to stay here long. Once my lawyer arrives, I’ll be bailed out.”Â
Chase spoke confidently.Â
Emily saw his lack of remorse and his reliance on his lawyer. Did he think that she couldn’t have her own legal support?Â

Soon after, Chase’s lawyer arrived, accompanied by Aiden.Â
Aiden glared at Chase. “Do you even know your situation? Still causing trouble? Stay home and behave until we clear your name from the plagiarism accusations.”Â
After scolding Chase, Aiden apologized to the police and instructed the lawyer to handle the bail.Â
Then he turned to Emily. “Emily, your friend wasn’t really harmed. We’ll offer some compensation. Let’s just settle this?”Â
“Wren, do you want to settle?”Â
Emily didn’t answer Aiden directly but respected Wren’s decision.Â
Wren pondered. “If I insist on pressing charges, will it affect you?”Â
Emily smiled. “Don’t worry about me. Follow your heart.”Â
Wren decided. “I want to pursue this.”Â
Aiden’s face darkened. “I’ve consulted with the lawyer. We can split this incident into two parts. The harassment didn’t cause harm, but Chase was physically attacked.”Â
“Well, your lawyer might need a new job.”Â
Suddenly, someone entered, countering Aiden’s words.Â
