Chapter 1460
Online, Lucas also came across Aurora’s poster and couldn’t resist quietly saving it to his phone.
Beside him, Desmond noticed and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
It was just like his boss–subtle to a fault, yet completely transparent.
“If you’re going to save it, just save it openly! She’s your wife, for heaven’s sake. This level of subtlety was both amusing and exasperating,” Desmond thought.
Watching him, Desmond suddenly felt a twinge of self–pity.
He spent all day buried in work, yet here he was–still single–while having to help his boss strategize romantic
moves.
Now that Lucas had successfully won Aurora over, Desmond was left with nothing but long hours and loneliness.
Maybe it was time to do something for his own happiness. He really should find someone instead of constantly watching his boss flaunt his relationship.
Lately, the endless public displays of affection were starting to wear down his soul.
Back when Lucas wasn’t with Aurora, at least his focus had been entirely on work.
But now things were different. Ever since falling in love, Lucas lived in his own romantic bubble and left most of the work to the rest of them.
Love truly changed people.
Desmond sighed aloud without realizing it. The sound caught Lucas‘ attention. He glanced up, frowning. “What are you sighing about over there?”
Startled, Desmond stiffened and stammered, “N–nothing, Mr. Carter. I wasn’t doing anything.”
Lucas narrowed his eyes slightly. “Then why do I get the feeling you’ve been muttering about me behind my
back?”
Hearing that, a chill ran down Desmond’s spine.
He hadn’t expected Lucas to be that sharp–had the man really sensed him complaining in his head?
He scratched the back of his head awkwardly and forced a laugh. “Mr. Carter, you’re way too sensitive. I swear I didn’t say anything.”
“Oh, right,” he added quickly, trying to change the subject. “Isn’t today the day your wife’s show poster goes public?”
Lucas gave him a look of mild surprise. “Didn’t expect you to remember that.”
Desmond puffed up his chest proudly. “Of course I did! It’s about Mrs. Carter, after all. I’d never forget something that important, especially when it reflects on you, Mr. Carter.”

Lucas raised an eyebrow, amused despite himself.
He had to admit, Desmond’s flattery hit the mark, and it lifted his mood.
“You get a one–month pay raise,” he said casually.
Desmond’s face lit up with joy. Without thinking, he blurted out, “Wishing you and Mrs. Carter eternal love and happiness!”
Lucas‘ lips curved into a faint smile, but he didn’t say anything else. Desmond took that as his cue to leave and hurried back to his work.
Once he stepped out of the office, he immediately pulled out his phone and called his mother.
Janet Winter was a little surprised–wasn’t it still work hours? Why would her son be calling now?
The moment she answered, she asked curiously, “You’ve got time to call me in the middle of the day?”
