“Are you kidding me? That’s highway robbery!”

Mason knew Emily had mad medical skills, but he couldn’t wrap his head around the cost.

Emily didn’t even look up as she packed her silver needles. “Fifty million bucks, and that’s because Floyd and Daniel vouched for you. Plus, I’ll get the herbs you need, which alone cost over ten million. If you think it’s too steep, feel free to find someone else.”

She finished packing and turned to Floyd. “Alright, Floyd, I’m outta here. Once Mason decides, give him my account number. When the money’s transferred, I’ll prescribe the medicine.”

Emily walked out without giving Mason a second glance.

Mason stared at her retreating figure and couldn’t help but vent, “Look at her attitude, so arrogant for someone so young!”

“Mason, zip it! If you keep running your mouth, I’m really not gonna help you. She’s not arrogant; she’s just that good. People with real skills have the right to be a little proud. She’s got the credentials to back it up!”

Floyd was fed up. He had held back while Emily was there, but now let loose.

“Mason, what’s your deal? Since when did you start trashing juniors? Emily’s talented and beautiful. How could anyone not like her?”

Floyd couldn’t help but ask.

Mason frowned. “Do you even know Emily’s background? The Johnson family wants to climb the social ladder by marrying Daniel. Plus, she was once engaged to James. If she were to marry Daniel, it would be embarrassing. Daniel’s been a rock star since he was a kid, managing the Smith family like a pro. I don’t want him to lose face over this.”

“Are you worried he’ll lose face, or are you worried you’ll lose face?” Floyd shot back. “You said Daniel’s excellent, so why do you think he’d have poor judgment and pick the wrong person? I’ve known Emily for a long time. She might seem cold, but she’s got a heart of gold. If she hadn’t helped you today, no one else might’ve been able to cure your poisoning. If something happened to you, she could still marry Daniel. You get it? Plus, Daniel’s the head of the Smith family. Whatever decisions he makes, you can’t change them. It’s better to support his decisions and keep a good relationship.”

Mason fell silent.

He didn’t argue with Floyd this time, showing he was taking it to heart.

Emily, unaware of the ongoing conversation, left the hospital room with plans to leave.

As she passed by a doctor’s office with the door slightly ajar, her keen hearing picked up the conversation inside.

She hadn’t meant to eavesdrop.

Blame it on those who were doing wrong for not closing the door properly.

“Patient in bed 3-306 secretly had an abortion? Don’t let a third person know about this. If it gets out, we’ll have to return the money, and the higher ups won’t protect us,

“Don’t worry, I get it.”

The conversation was between two doctors in uniform.

Emily didn’t enter the room.

But she remembered the bed number.

Emily told herself not to meddle.

Yet her kind heart couldn’t ignore it.

She decided to inform the patient, at least to let them know the truth. Otherwise, they might think it was their own fault for losing the baby.

If they had unreasonable family members, the patient could be blamed even though they were the victim.

Emily knocked on the door.

The door swung open.

“What are you doing here, Emily? Are you here to gloat over Bianca’s car accident, or have you changed your mind and decided to help Hayden?”

Eli’s tone was dripping with condescension.

Emily frowned. “Bianca’s the one in bed?”

“Who else did you think it was?”

Aiden, seeing Bianca’s condition, was also upset and glared at Emily with hostility.

Bianca hadn’t expected Emily to know she was hospitalized and find her so quickly.

A suspicion formed in her mind, making her expression turn agitated.

“Emily, did you know about my miscarriage and come here on purpose? Was it you who caused it?”

Bianca’s voice was sharp, her gaze venomous.

“Emily, how can you be so cruel?”

Cleo looked at Emily in disbelief, disappointment etched in her eyes.

Emily’s heart twisted at Cleo’s disappointment.

She no longer loved Cleo.

But she was still hurt, likely due to their blood connection.

Suppressing her sadness, Emily smirked mockingly. “Even if I say it wasn’t me, you wouldn’t believe it. I was going to tell you some truths, but now it seems unnecessary.”

She turned to leave.

“Stop, you can’t leave. Explain yourself!”

Bianca, with a burst of strength, got out of bed and blocked Emily’s path.

Emily glanced at the hand blocking her, her expression indifferent. “Explain what? Don’t think you’re the center of everything. I have no interest in your affairs. If anything, I would prefer you to have James’s baby and marry him. Knowing I’m with Daniel, you’d be my junior. Why would I want you to lose your baby? Use your brain!”

Emily pointed to her head, her smile mocking.

Bianca was momentarily speechless.

Her suspicions lingered. “If you didn’t do it, then who did? I don’t believe it was an accident. How did you find the hospital so quickly? I can’t think of any other reason.”

Bianca stared intently at Emily, trying to discern any clues.

But Emily was calm.

For some reason, Bianca started to believe it wasn’t Emily.

“Instead of fixating on me, why not think about who you’ve offended recently or who you saw before coming home? Otherwise, you might miss the real enemy.”
