_Lisa’s POV_

The air felt heavy inside the room. The faint scent of herbs and smoke lingered everywhere, sinking into my skin. My hands trembled as I stood still. I took a look at my reflection again

Katherine’s cold blue eyes stared back at me. That sharp face, those pale lips, that expression I had seen so many times filled with hatred….it was all mine now. Or ratherI was trapped inside hers

I swallowed hard. This can’t be real,I whispered. My voice was soft but unfamiliar. It wasn’t my voice. It was hers

My heart started racing faster. The walls around me seemed to close in. Every piece of furniture was dark, heavy, and ancient. Books written in strange symbols lined the shelves. The curtains were thick and black. The place reeked of dark magic..

And then it hit me

This was Fenric’s room

The realization made my skin crawl. My chest tightened so badly that I could barely breathe. I could still feel traces of his energy in the air. It was cold and sharp, like invisible claws dragging over my skin

I looked around quickly. I was afraid he might walk in any second. My pulse thudded in my ears. He’s not here,” I whispered to myself, trying to calm down. “He’s not here. You can do this.”

Sierra stirred inside me. Lisa, breathe. Stay calm. If Fenric comes back and sees you like this, he’ll know something is wrong

I nodded shakily, though no one could see me. You’re right. I have to think. I have to act normal.”

I looked back at the mirror. My reflection looked like someone else’s nightmare. I forced myself to straighten my shoulders and breathe slower. Maybe, if I acted like Katherine, no one would notice the difference. Maybe I could get out of this place before Fenric returned

I went to the door and turned the handle. To my surprise, it wasn’t locked. My heart jumped with a spark of hope. I opened it slowly

But the hope died as quickly as it came

Two warlocks stood right outside. They were tall and wearing black cloaks. Their eyes were glowing faintly red from whatever spell they had been cast under

One of them looked at me suspiciously. Where are you going?”

My mouth went dry. For a moment, I froze. Then I forced a small and casual smile; the kind of cruel smirk Katherine often wore. To the kitchen,” I said. I’m hungry.”

The warlocks exchanged glances. One of them spoke in a low voice. Lord Fenric has ordered us to guard you until his return. You cannot leave this room.”

I tried to act unfazed. I tilted my chin up like Katherine would. I don’t need a guard to fetch food.”

The second warlock shook his head. You must remain here. If you need food, we will bring it

”

My chest tightened. Fine,” I muttered through clenched teeth

One of them turned and walked away, probably to get food, while the other gestured toward the door. Please return inside, my lady.”

I did as he said, stepping back into the room. The door closed behind me with a heavy thud, followed by the sound of a key turning in the lock

I stood there, frozen

I was trapped

The air seemed to grow colder with every passing second. I felt panic rising in my chest. Sierra,” I whispered. What do we do now? How will I go back to Frostbane? How will I tell Rylan what happened?”

”

Sierra’s voice was calm, though I could feel her worry beneath the surface. We can’t panic. Look around. There must be something here we can use. Maybea phone, or something else. If we can contact Rylan, he’ll find us

I nodded weakly and began searching the room. My fingers shook as I opened drawers, one after another. Most were filled with old scrolls, crystals, and strange objects that pulsed faintly with magic

Finally, at the bottom of one drawer, I found it, a phone. A simple black mobile phone, lying there like it had been forgotten

My heart leapt. “Sierra! It’s working!”

Good. Call him, she urged. Call Rylan now

I was just about to dial his number when the door creaked open. I froze. My heart jumped into my throat

Quickly, I slipped the phone behind my back

The warlock who had left earlier stepped inside, carrying a tray. Your food, my lady,” he said politely

I forced a smile while trying to keep my voice steady. Put it on the table.”

He nodded and did as I said. If you need anything else, tell me.”

I will.”

He lingered for a moment, then turned and left. The door closed, and I waited until I heard the lock click again. Only then did I let out the breath I was holding

That was close,” I whispered. My palms were damp with sweat

Hurry, before he comes back, Sierra said

I nodded. My fingers trembled as I dialed Rylan’s number. Each ring felt like an eternity. My heart pounded so hard I thought it might burst

Then, he answered

Hello? His voice was deep. He sounded very tired

My throat tightened with emotion. “Rylan! It’s me! It’s Lisa! Please, believe me!”

There was a pause. Then, his voice hardened. Who is this? This isn’t Lisa’s voice.”

Tears burned my eyes. Rylan, please, listen to me! I can explain. Something happened. It’s me, I swear!”

But before I could say more, I heard shouting on his end. There were voices calling his name and the sound of movement

Then the line went dead

I stared at the phone screen, my heart shattering into pieces. No. No, please!I tried calling again, but the call didn’t go through. He had turned off his phone

My hands shook as I lowered the phone. Why won’t he believe me? What if he thinks I am the enemy?”

Calm down, Lisa, Sierra whispered gently. He’s confused. He doesn’t understand yet. But he

will

I nodded weakly and wiped my tears with the back of my hand. My chest ached with helplessness

I looked toward the window. The night outside was dark, lit only by the faint glow of torches. I could see warlocks and witches guarding the grounds below. There were too many of them. Even if I tried to climb out, I would be caught before taking two steps

I turned away and paced the room in frustration. “There’s no way out, Sierra. Fenric’s guards are everywhere. He told them not to let Katherine leave, and now I’m paying the price.”

Wait, Sierra said suddenly. This is Fenric’s room. Someone like him must have a secret escape…..something he could use if things went wrong

I frowned. That’s impossible. Fenric doesn’t need a tunnel or a door. He could vanish in

blink if he wanted.”

Still, Sierra insisted, it’s worth checking. Better than doing nothing

I sighed and began looking around again. My fingers brushed along the walls, the furniture and the floor. Then something caught my attention

It was a faint draft

I stopped and felt it again. There was cool air brushing against my hand from somewhere near the bookshelf. I knelt and pushed aside a small carpet. There, hidden behind the shadow of the shelf, was a tiny gap in the wall

My heart raced. Sierra, there’s something here.”

Check it, she said quickly

I pressed my fingers along the wall, searching for a mechanism. After a moment, there was a soft click. A small door opened, revealing complete darkness beyond

A shiver ran down my spine. It’s so dark.”

Use light, Sierra said

I searched Fenric’s desk again and found a small flashlight in one of the drawers. The beam cut through the shadows as I leaned forward

It wasn’t just a hole, it was a narrow passage, with stone steps leading down into the depths. Dust floated in the air. I could smell damp earth, and something elsethe faint, clean scent

The wind,” I whispered. I can feel it, Sierra. There’s fresh air down there. It leads outside.”

Then that’s our way out, Sierra said firmly. But be careful. We don’t know what’s waiting

below

I nodded and tightened my grip on the flashlight. My hands were still shaking, but my was fading

I had lost my body. I had lost my voice. But I wasn’t going to lose my fight

fear

Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the darkness. The air grew colder. I could feel the walls pressing close around me. Each step echoed softly against the stone

I didn’t know where this tunnel would take me….or if I would even make it out alive

But I knew one thing

I was done being trapped

And whatever waited belowI was ready to face it

“The Wolf Who Couldn’t Shift”

1. The Outcast of Nightshade Pack

Lisa had always been the outcast of her own home — a wolf without a wolf.

In the Nightshade Pack, turning twenty-one meant power, dominance, and pride. Every werewolf her age had already shifted, embracing their animal half. But Lisa hadn’t. Her wolf had never emerged.

Because of that, she was treated as an anomaly, a failure, and a source of shame.
Her parents ignored her. The pack ridiculed her. Even her own blood — her beautiful, perfect sister Roxanne — made her life a living nightmare.

Roxanne was everything Lisa wasn’t: strong, admired, and loved. The perfect daughter. The shining jewel of the family. And to make matters worse, Roxanne was dating Kael Blackthorn, the Alpha’s son — a man everyone respected and desired.

For Lisa, that was the final reminder of her insignificance. Every time she saw them together, it only highlighted the chasm between their worlds.

2. A Celebration That Wasn’t Hers

That night was Roxanne’s birthday, and their mother had transformed their home into a grand venue — lights, laughter, and music filled the air. Roxanne had been gifted a stunning red gown, handpicked by their mother, while Lisa was given a single task: serve the guests.

No one remembered Lisa’s birthday a few months ago. No cake. No presents. No “happy birthday.” Her parents had said it plainly before — Roxanne came first.
Lisa was simply expected to sacrifice and stay silent.

Still, she wanted to look decent. She chose a modest navy-blue dress, applied light makeup, and promised herself she wouldn’t let the night break her.

But the universe — or rather, Roxanne — had other plans.

3. Sister Cruelty

The door burst open, and Roxanne walked in like a queen entering a servant’s quarters. Her crimson lips curved into a smirk.

“What are you doing? You should be downstairs, not wasting time,” she sneered.

“I’ll be down in a minute,” Lisa replied softly, trying to keep her calm.

Roxanne’s eyes glinted with malice. Without warning, she snatched Lisa’s face cream from the dresser and poured it all over her dress.

Lisa gasped as the thick cream soaked through the fabric, staining it completely.

“Roxanne!” she cried, panic and disbelief trembling in her voice. “Why would you do that?”

“Because you’re embarrassing,” Roxanne replied coldly. “You think dressing up will make people notice you? No one cares what you look like, Lisa. You’re nothing but a burden.”

Tears blurred Lisa’s vision as she ran downstairs, desperate for justice. But when she told their mother what had happened, she was met with scorn.

“Roxanne would never do that,” her mother said sharply. “Stop making excuses. Go change and get back to work.”

And there Roxanne stood beside her, smug and triumphant, watching Lisa break in silence.

4. The Invisible Sister

Lisa changed into an old, faded dress — dull and shapeless.
When she finally entered the main hall, guests were already laughing and drinking, the music echoing through the night.

She moved quietly among them, balancing trays and forcing smiles. She served drinks, ignored whispers, and endured Roxanne’s cruel jokes.

One of Roxanne’s friends gave Lisa a small, pitying smile.
“Oh, you must be Lisa, right? Roxanne’s sister?”

Before Lisa could answer, Roxanne appeared and laughed loudly.
“Don’t bother talking to her! She’s just the help tonight — our little maid.”

Her friends giggled, glancing at Lisa like she was a joke.
“She’s really your sister?” one asked. “She doesn’t even look like she belongs here.”

“She doesn’t,” Roxanne said proudly. “She’s an embarrassment to the family.”

The laughter burned like fire in Lisa’s ears. But she didn’t fight back.
She had learned long ago that silence hurt less than hope.

5. The Alpha’s Arrival

Suddenly, the noise died down. All eyes turned toward the entrance.

The Alpha, Luna, and their son Kael Blackthorn — Roxanne’s boyfriend — had arrived. Their presence demanded respect, their aura commanding silence.

Kael was striking — tall, dark-haired, eyes sharp and unreadable. Power radiated from him effortlessly.
He walked straight to Roxanne, pulling her into his arms, kissing her in front of everyone.

The crowd cheered. Roxanne basked in the attention like it was her birthright.

Lisa’s stomach twisted. Not out of jealousy — but from the ache of being so invisible even to those who shared her blood.

“Lisa!” Roxanne called, her tone dripping with authority. “Bring drinks for me and Kael.”

Lisa obeyed. She returned with a tray of crystal glasses, keeping her head down. But when she approached, she felt his gaze.

Kael was watching her.

“Is that your sister?” he asked, his voice low and deep. “What’s her name? I don’t think I’ve seen her before.”

Roxanne laughed, tightening her arm around him.
“Oh, don’t bother. She’s not important. Just the family failure. Focus on me.”

Then she kissed him again — possessive, showy, territorial.

6. The Breaking Point

Something inside Lisa snapped.

For years, she had swallowed humiliation, endured cruelty, and told herself it didn’t matter. But as she stood there, watching her sister claim everything — their parents’ love, the pack’s respect, even Kael’s attention — something deep within her stirred.

Maybe it was anger. Maybe it was pain. Maybe it was the first stirrings of the wolf she thought she’d never have.

But it was there — hot, alive, awake.

She placed the tray down calmly, ignoring Roxanne’s voice calling after her.
She walked away — past the laughter, past the whispers, past every face that had ever looked at her with pity.

They could laugh. They could mock.
But one day, they would see.

7. A Shift Waiting to Happen

As the night went on, Lisa slipped quietly outside. The cool air hit her face, carrying the scent of pine and moonlight.

The party’s laughter echoed behind her, but she barely heard it. Her heart pounded with a strange rhythm, her blood burning beneath her skin.

Something was happening — a pull in her soul, a whisper in her bones.

She tilted her head toward the moon, feeling its glow on her skin.
For the first time in her life, she didn’t feel weak. She felt something ancient stirring inside her, clawing to be free.

Maybe her wolf wasn’t gone.
Maybe it had just been waiting — for the moment Lisa stopped begging to be seen, and started seeing herself.

8. The Beginning of Change

Inside, the celebration continued. Roxanne laughed, oblivious to the storm brewing.

Kael’s eyes flicked toward the window where Lisa stood in the moonlight. For a brief second, something unreadable crossed his expression — curiosity, or maybe recognition.

He didn’t know it yet. None of them did.
But the quiet, invisible girl they had mocked all her life was about to become something far greater than any of them could imagine.

Because sometimes, the wolves who are late to shift…
Are the ones destined to lead the pack.
