‘Daniel, are you trying to drive me into the ground? I’m already sick, isn’t this exactly what you wanted? 

Despite his harsh words, Mason was actually glad to see Daniel. It showed that his efforts hadn’t been in vain and that Daniel still cared 

for him. But the thought of Daniel defying him for a woman he deemed unworthy reignited his anger and pride. 

Daniel, aware of Mason’s health, chose not to argue. Instead, he called for the attending doctor. 

The doctor soon arrived with Mason’s medical records. 

“What’s my grandfather’s condition?” Daniel asked, his tone calm but authoritative. 

The doctor immediately detailed Mason’s health status. “Although we haven’t identified Mr. Smith’s illness, his overall health is 

surprisingly robust. His body has a remarkable ability to recover. When he was first admitted, several of his health metrics were 

alarmingly high, but they’ve decreased significantly within a few hours.” 

To prove his point, the doctor presented comparative data from Mason’s tests. 

“Thanks. Please keep investigating the cause of my grandfather’s condition,” Daniel nodded. 

The doctor, sensing that Daniel wanted to speak privately with Mason, excused himself from the room. 

As soon as the door closed, Daniel’s demeanor shifted. He exuded an air of authority. “Zach, can you explain what happened when the 

data showed improvement?” 

Daniel had a suspicion but needed confirmation. 

Mason scoffed, “Don’t listen to the doctor. They exaggerate to make money. Didn’t he say I have strong self–healing abilities? I’ll be fine 

soon. Aren’t you busy? If so, get back to work. And I still stand by what I said–I don’t approve of you being with Emily.” 

Daniel had been holding back his temper due to Mason’s illness, but was now visibly frustrated. He turned to Zach with a firm tone, 

“Ignore what he says. For his health, you need to tell the truth.” 

Zach, loyal to Mr. Smith, revealed the truth. “Dr. Floyd Ryan came to check Mr. Smith’s pulse and then called Ms. Johnson to perform 

acupuncture. The improved test results likely followed her treatment.” 

“Then why didn’t you let Emily continue the treatment?” Daniel’s voice carried fatigue and disappointment, “Grandpa, why are you being 

so stubborn? She’s far more capable than you realize!” 

Mason, however, was not convinced; he only thought that Daniel was speaking on behalf of Emily. “It is just a beauty in the eyes of a lover. I really can’t trust Emily. She promised not to tell you, but she still did. Otherwise, how would you know about my situation? Is she 

also boasting about how capable she is, claiming she can cure you?”

Daniel (gnored Mason’s comment and asked Zach, ‘What exactly did Emily say about my grandfather’s condition?” 

“Ms. Johnson said Mr. Smith was poisoned and that curing him would require fifty million dollars due to a rare ingredient,” Zach explained, mentioning that Emily was already working on that ingredient for someone else. 

Daniel pondered if one of the two rare ingredients Emily mentioned for his own condition was the same as what Mason needed. Could 

their poisonings be connected? 

“Zach, leave us alone. I need to speak with my grandfather privately,” Daniel said, his expression serious. 

Zach complied, stepping out and standing a few paces from the room to ensure privacy. Since Daniel asked him for the room, the matter 

they discussed must be quite secretive and not meant to be known to outsiders. 

Mason, still stubborn, said, “What do you want to say? If this is about Emily, I don’t care how skilled she is–she’s not right for you!” 

Daniel smirked, “You don’t have to worry. I haven’t actually won her over yet.” 

“What do you mean? And why wouldn’t she be interested in you?” Mason was agitated. Despite his stern exterior, he was protective of 

Daniel. 

Daniel sighed. “Not everyone’s going to fall for me. She was at the family dinner to help me uncover a traitor.” 

He paused to let Mason absorb this information before continuing. “I know about the traitor because I was poisoned. And now, with you 

poisoned too, it confirms there’s a mole.” 

“You were poisoned? What kind of poison? Did you get treated? Why didn’t you tell me? Do you even consider me your grandfather anymore?” Mason’s voice rose with concern as he looked at Daniel up and down. 

“Wait, are you fooling me around for Emily? Are you sure Emily didn’t trick you into thinking you were poisoned? After all, your health has never been very good since your childhood.” Mason continued, seeming to convince himself more than Daniel. 

Daniel then detailed his health issues, Emily’s treatments, his car accident, and the subsequent discoveries involving Yara. 

“You’ve been through so much and kept it to yourself!” Mason’s anger was mixed with sorrow. 

Despite Daniel’s poor health since childhood, Mason put in more effort to take care of him than of others. However, it was these efforts that led Daniel into difficulties multiple times, eventually causing their relationship to become more distant and cold. 

This was also to protect Daniel. 

Daniel smiled faintly. “It’s all in the past. I’m way better now, just waiting for Emily to gather the necessary ingredients to cure me 

completely.” 

Mason’s attitude towards Emily softened. Realizing she had helped Daniel, his resistance lessened. However, he sensed Daniel’s deeper 

involvement.

He needed to confirm Mason’s condition with Emily and ensure her cooperation for their next steps.
