Knox heard Emily’s words and his grin widened, a hint of mischief in his voice, “We’ve already ordered our food, and it’s just enough for the two of us. Sorry, but we can’t share.”

It was a clear provocation.

Daniel’s gaze darkened. If he weren’t worried about scaring Emily, his demeanor would have been even colder.

*Saving is a virtue. We weren’t planning on staying for dinner anyway. But…”

He paused, locking eyes with Emily. “Emily, I might need your help with something later. You wouldn’t refuse, right?”

There was a hopeful look in his deep eyes.

Emily found it really hard to say no.

Knox cursed silently. Wasn’t Daniel supposed to be cold and heartless? This man in front of him was the same Daniel? And using charm

to get his way was pretty low.

“Mr. Smith, you said it was a coincidence running into Emily. Even if she doesn’t go, it shouldn’t affect your business. I’ll help her decline.

She just wants to enjoy her meal without having to worry about work.”

Knox spoke up directly.

Daniel frowned but didn’t look at Knox. Instead, he focused on Emily. “So, Emily, are you going to refuse me?”

Emily met Daniel’s gaze and found it hard to say no. But Knox had spoken up to protect her, and she didn’t want to let him down.

“Knox, I know you mean well, but it’s okay. It won’t affect my appetite. Daniel has helped me a lot, and I’d be happy to help him out.”

Since Emily had said that, Knox naturally respected her decision.

Daniel should have been happy since she was willing to make time for him. But seeing her explain things to Knox left him feeling a bit

uneasy.

In their conversation, they completely ignored Bianca.

Bianca felt a surge of jealousy, but with the two men vying for Emily’s attention, she knew speaking up would only make her a target.

She quietly left.

Emily noticed Bianca’s departure but didn’t care. She was in a good mood and didn’t want to deal with unpleasant people and matters.

Charles felt relieved. If he had known they would run into Knox and Emily, he wouldn’t have greeted them. The situation almost escalated

because of him.

But he was puzzled. How did Knox, with his usual crowd and affairs, get involved with Emily? It didn’t seem to make sense.

The scene seemed like a minor episode.

Soon, the food arrived.

The restaurant wasn’t fancy, but it was packed for a reason. The food was really good.

With Knox constantly offering her food, Emily ended up eating quite a bit. She was worried that if he kept feeding her, she might burst.

She put down her utensils and said, “I’m pretty full. I’ll go see if Daniel needs anything. Are you heading back or…?”

“You know what you remind me of?”

“What?”

“A heartless, bad woman!” Knox teased with a smile.

Emily immediately looked innocent. “You make it sound like there’s something between us. We’re just friends. Don’t say such things!”

Knox was joking, but he meant it. Unfortunately, Emily didn’t seem to notice.

He hid his disappointment behind a smile. “Alright, if I can’t keep you here, go ahead. I’ll wait for you to come back, and then we can

leave together.”

Emily nodded and headed over to Daniel.

Knox’s smile faded, and he lost his appetite for the food on the table.

“Mr. Green!”

Bianca, who had left earlier, reappeared at the table.

Knox, already without an appetite, now felt nauseous.

“You left so quickly before. I didn’t hold you accountable, and you think you’re off the hook? Leave now before I get angry.”

Knox’s cold eyes looked at Bianca as if she were already dead.

“I’m not trying to sow discord or make you misunderstand Emily. I just don’t want you to be kept in the dark. This isn’t something I made

up. It’s a fact. Your brother Charles is close to Daniel. You can ask him.”

“Or, with your means, you can check around and see I’m not lying.”

“I’m not badmouthing Emily. She’s with Daniel but still keeps you hanging. Someone as outstanding as you shouldn’t be fooled by Emily.”

Bianca felt more righteous as she spoke, gaining confidence.

Knox looked at Bianca quietly, without speaking immediately.

Time passed slowly.

Bianca felt sweat soaking her back.

She had changed into a more appropriate dress, which made her look better than before.

More importantly, she had withstood Knox’s pressure.

After a long silence, Knox spoke. “You came to me on purpose, didn’t you? First pretending not to know me, and now you do.”

Bianca knew there were gaps in her story, but Charles‘ appearance had filled them.

“I wasn’t sure at first, just trying my luck. But when I heard Mr. Charles Green call you, I knew you were Mr. Knox Green. Sorry for approaching you that way. I had no choice and didn’t know how else to get your attention.”
